Wow, March and April are so busy. If anyone says to you, "we hardly ever do anything as a club," I'd say they're wrong and haven't read the past newsletters. Thank You: Thank you, Carolyn Weaver, for keeping us all up-to-date as newsletter editor. Thank you, Don Welshans, for making sure we all have the monthly activities organized. Shamrocks, leprechauns and Celtic music and dance were the order of the day as Henderson’s 53rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade marched down Water Street and our club participated. Thanks to Don W for or-ganizing the day. Several stayed the day for the car show.

Wow! What a fun day—Saturday April 6 at the American Legion Post 40 in Henderson Neva-da. In addition to good food and a fun raffle, Jerry Robinson and his 41 won “best of show”! Great job Jerry—all that hard work to eliminate a WIP has paid off. DR snuck off before we got his pic!

A special thanks to Chuck B (the owner of the green 57 pictured to the left) for being sure we got the invite. It’s good to see you again at the club.

Cadillac Museum at Gilmore Fall Festival

CADILLAC-LASALLE CLUB MUSEUM AND RESEARCH CENTER The Cadillac-LaSalle Club Museum and Research Center opened at the Gilmore Car Museum (near Kala-mazoo Michigan) on September 28, 2014 and serves as the permanent home of the organization’s collec-tion of automobiles, display engines, and artifacts. The 10,000 sq. ft. museum is modeled after a 1948 deal-ership design from the pages of General Motors book “Planning Automobile Dealer Properties” of that year.

Guests will find nearly two-dozen automobiles. Besides the fantastic automobiles displayed within the muse-um, visitors will also find an array of artifacts, memorabilia and educational exhibits that tell the entire story of Cadillac and LaSalle. There are tributes to Henry Leland, Cadillac’s founder, the firm’s production history, its support of the Arsenal of Democracy during World War II, and its history of providing Presidential limou-sines. Saturday April 27—Celebrity Cars on Eastern 7 a.m. Arrive to park with the group. Look for the John Bergler’s pink 59 and Gary Weaver’s 76 SDV. We can only hold space for so long so please arrive early. 7:30—10 a.m. Enjoy the cars! Promote CTTY! Sunday April 28 Cadillac Through The Years at Town Square 6605 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89119 at the 215

8:30 a.m. Cadillacs and LaSalles arrive at the Registration area in the Northwest parking area off of Sun-set. Look for the registration tent. Please stay in the area until directed to go and park. This will keep your Cadillac from overheating! There is plenty of time to get everyone situated.

8:45 a.m. Vehicles start parking by the drivers and the LVCC Red Shirt Parking Team. Please do not leave until after 4 p.m./end of the show unless escorted out by a Board member and it is an emergency. It is a safety and fire issue and liability for the club with all the pedestrians and other cars.

8:30 to 11 a.m.

Participants stay with their Cadillac/LaSalle. Professionals and the students of WOW photog-raphy take pictures of the owners and their cars. Professional and others will take video of the show. Radio, TV, and Press interviews the participants and the show management.

10 a.m. All Cadillacs/LaSalles are in place and the Registration is closed.

11 a.m. The show and the shopping center are officially open.

11 to 3 p.m. Professional Disk Jockey, DJ Miguel provides Music to Remember.

11 to 4 p.m. The Clark County Fire Department shows off a fire engine and talks about fire safety with FREE Fire hats for kids;. Professional showgirls take pictures with participants and attendees.

12 to 3 p.m. Entertainment from the Las Vegas strip, you never know who’s going to drop by.

2 to 3 p.m. Cadillacs/LaSalles award winners are “tagged” (look for ribbons or stars). Please be sure you are at the awards presentation as trophies are really different this year.

3 to 4 p.m. Awards presentation by John Saksa, Executive Manager of Findlay Cadillac and Phil Terry, Western Regional Manager/VP National Cadillac & LaSalle Club.

3:45 p.m. Best of Show award presented by DR Rawson, President, Las Vegas Cadillac Club.

4 p.m. The vehicles begin departing Town Square.

The Cadillac V-12 is a top-of-the-line car that was manufactured by Cadillac from the 1931 through the 1937. A total of 10,903 were made in the seven model years that the automobile was built, with the majority having been constructed in its inaugural year. It was Cadillac's first, and is to date, Cadillac's only standard production V-12 powered car. Owen Nacker, who designed the Cadillac V-16 engine, also designed the Cadillac V-12 engine. The V-12 was less powerful than the V-16, generating 135 versus 175 horsepower. Both engines featured overhead valves in the first generation. Designer Harley Earl.

It was difficult to tell a Fisher-bodied Cadillac V-12 from a Cadillac V-16 unless you were close enough to read the figure "12" mounted on the headlight tie bar, but the hood was four inches (102 mm) shorter, and the headlights and horns smaller than a V-16s. More significantly, the V-12 cost about $2,000 less for each bodystyle, starting at $3,795.The Cadillac V-12 might have been lower in prestige than the Cadillac V-16, but it joined a select group of 1930s cars with multicylinder engines, namely those manufactured

by Auburn, Franklin, Hispano-Suiza, Horch, Lagonda, Maybach, Packard, Pierce-Arrow, Rolls-Royce, Tatra, Voisin, Walter, Marmon and Lincoln. Moreover, thanks to its lower price, it immediately outsold the Cadillac V-16 with 5,733 sold in the 1931 model year, versus a mere 363 for the V-16.

Some Interesting Info: The V-12 Roadster Cadillac was the official pace car in 1931 for the Indianapo-lis 500 and driven by Willard Rader. Movie star Jean Harlow owned one in laurel green over highland green .

The Cadillac V16, launched as Ca-dillac’s top-of-the-line car in Janu-ary, 1930, is recognized as one of the finest automobiles of the prewar era by many authorities and was the first V16 powered car to reach production status in the United States. It features overhead valves with twin carburetors, dual exhaust, and a beautifully finished exterior design, delivering 165 horsepower from 452 cubic inches on a 148” wheelbase. This particular car also has a pseudo celebrity status as its original owner was Atwater Kent, a prolific inven-tor & engineer who was a giant in the field of automobile advancement, and was THE inventor of radio in the 1920’s. This vehicle has been restored to authentic Roadster specifications (2007-2014) and 3-time 100 point CCCA 1st place winner as well as AACA National 1st place winner and “Best in Show” at CLC and other Concours d’Elegance car shows. It was also shown at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este in Lake Como, Italy where it received Honorable Mention in its class (2nd place) and Best Restoration of the Show.

1930 V-16 Cadillac Roadster Convertible Original Owner - Atwater Kent This 1930 Caddy also has a pseudo celebrity status as its original owner was Atwater Kent (1873–1949). Atwater Kent was a prolific inventor and engineer, who was a giant in the field of radio manufacturing and automobile advancement, and was one of the great 20th century pioneers of modern technology. Tired of why cars had to be cranked, kicked, and then finally pushed headed down hill to get a car started, he in-vented the Uni-Sparker self-starter ignition system in 1906, which became the automotive industry stand-ard. He also was THE inventor of radio in the 1920’s. At his death, he held 93 patents on automotive igni-tion systems and electronics. After Atwater Kent Radio became a household item, placing him among the richest men in America, he moved from Philadelphia to the milder climates of California in 1940, bringing his English imported serv-ants, his favorite Cadillacs, and his bow ties with him. He built a 32-room mansion in Bel Air named Capo di Monte atop the highest hill in Los Angeles, which was well known as a venue for lavish parties, attended by numerous Hollywood luminaries, and is now the site of the current Bel Air Hotel. He spent most of his senior years as a Hollywood philanthropic, giving very generous donations to local hospitals and other foundations in Hollywood area, where he also continued his passion for opera and his lifelong love affair with cars.
