THE PASSIONS OF THE COLOUR BLUERichard Takvorian and Antoinette OhannessianEverything makes our little blue friend turn red. His reflection in the mirror, his dog, the flowers in the garden. Everything. Not forgetting… his neighbor. When she walks up to him, when she walks away, our little blue friend loses all composure. But night falls and all the colors merge, red-cheeked, heart-pounding, into darkness. A delightful gra-phic cardboard picture book with UV varnish on each page, to help grown-ups talk to little-ones about love.

A WINTER GARDENPauline KalioujnyThe trees have been buried beneath a big fluffy winter cream. Wrapped up in lots of layers, Micha’s imagination sets to work in the snow. “Scruntch, scruntch, scruntch” in the snow, he goes building a snow chicken with a carrot and sticks, while watching nature dozing, mysteriously, beneath its big white blanket. But whose dark prints are those in the bright frost? Could they belong to a Siberian tiger or a black wolf from the Steppes? A bear maybe? Oh no. That big dark hairy form grumbling and shaking about behind the mound of snow is Granddad with his big shaggy beard and his chapka! A tender album full of tactile surprises to encourage younger children to set out on adventures.

LEMON PIE, TEA AND STARSFanny DucasséMustella spends all her time in her bath reading her big story book of nonsense tales. Who’s her favorite character? A little magician with a pointy hat, who straddles the sparkling meteorites. One day, due to some kind of mischievous magic, he turns up in her garden in the middle of a game. Mustella chases after him with her dog, Mountain. For the first time, she strays away from home and turns the corner of the street, only to discover that the world doesn’t end there! Guided by the tiny pointy hat, the two friends set out in search of the world to find their place and end up with a fresh perspective on the little things that make up their day-to-day lives.

THE MAGICIAN, ETCVincent PianinaOnce upon a time there was a magician who had no name. People just called him the magician, because he wore a pointy hat. If he had a flute as well, people might have called him the magician-musician, whether he knew how to play or not. And if he had had a helmet on one arm too, he’d have been known as the magician-musician-motorbikeman, whether he knew how to drive a motorbike or not. A fun, graphic picture book that piles up our preconceived ideas into a big heap until it teeters and falls. All that’s left is reality, thumbing its nose at our dumb preconceptions!

THE SISTERS FUSSFrançoise De Guibert & Ronan BadelThe sun rises up on the wooden farm of the Fuss family. With their flute and violin in hand, the sisters Fuss gladly burst into their favorite chorus. But in Quietcity, some people are not ready to enjoy good music. From the hardly arrived settlers to the gang of Cassidy, nobody enjoys the concert and the two sisters find it difficult to meet an audience. Unless the young indian Oumpapoose finds a better idea for them...

THE BLACK KNIGHTAntonin LouchardStronger than Lancelot, braver than Gawain and more mer-ciless than the Lionheart, the Black Knight is an unfamiliar hero from the Middle Ages. Everybody who crosses his path should beware! If a flock of wild ducks makes a little too much noise, he pulls out his bow in a flash. Bandits on the edge of the forest? His sword is merciless. And if a mosquito slips beneath his armor? He kills all the insects in the forest. Meanwhile, Titi’s dad is waiting, waiting, waiting. “How long is your story going to last, Titi? And I hope it has some kind of happy ending!” Dragged into an epic medieval adventure by his hero, Titi has the final word. After the success of Crocolion and Cékicékapété?, Antonin Louchard’s lively humor is as always a delight.

CHARLY Sarah Turoche-DromeryThis summer, Sam is helping out his parents at their hotel, as a bellhop welcoming guests, so he’s always ready to lend a hand. Especially because there aren’t many children in the hotel, or they’re too small to play with. Unexpectedly, by chance, Charly, Sam’s dream playmate, arrives in the final week. Charly and Sam agree on everything and share the same passion for video games, walking and chatting. Sam tells Charly his secrets, but Charly has secrets too but doesn’t feel like telling them. A novel with a beach hotel atmosphere, about the joys of friendship and complicity.

I AM THE FRUIT OF THEIR LOVE Charlotte MoundlicHis parents are so in love that she never gets to see them. They are so intelligent and beautiful that she finds herself dumb and dull in comparison. “I don’t deserve them,” the little girl says to herself. Fortunately MaTalie, her aunt, has been keeping a benevolent eye on her niece. The day will come when the girl will decide who she wants to grow up with. A tale that will awaken deep emotions in all of us, especially our childhood fears of not being loved, and of not living up to our parents’ expectations. Charlotte Moundlic relates the fears that assail us all with great simplicity.

SIGISMOND’S EARS Patrice FavaroSigismond has enormous ears and everyone makes fun of him. Having such huge ears does have its advantages though, and he can hear everything around him: the sounds of nature, noises in the night, the delicate kiss of snowflakes alighting on the roof, but also sounds within the house (it hurts to hear your parents yelling at each other). One day on the way to school, he meets Martha who says his ears look like shells. “What a pretty image,” he thinks and he finally starts to like them. Later in life, Sigismond becomes Sigmund and is pleased he has such big ears, as he can listen to his patients properly. A poetic story relating the childhood of Sigmund Freud, a man who knew how to listen to the world.

ADRIAN AND SCORPION ISLANDSimon SecondHis father promised him a special trip on his transatlantic train, and when Adrian arrives in Tokyo, Adrian meets Maelys again, a year after their first encounter. Underwater stations are like cathedrals and the vast project that is Adrian’s father’s intercontinental train requires huge teams of engineers and workers who work non-stop. Once again, the journey will be far from relaxing. Amid the ocean’s depths and the mosasauri, as construction on the project gradually makes headway, the traitors have returned: giant beasts from deep within the fault lines are at large and the children have to go searching to flush out the traps. With this new episode in the adventure, the kids are more battle-hardened, more confident and their vigilance and sense of observation will enable them to thwart the plots of the evil Rotten who is hell bent on sabotage.

TO MY SECRET SPRINGMadeline RothJeanne spends every vacation in her grandmother’s village and each time meets up with her old gang of buddies. This year, they are joined by Lucas and Jeanne falls madly in love with him. It is also possible that he has fallen in love with her, but each keeps their feelings a secret from each other. Jeanne feels warm inside; she loves everything about him. The following summer, by chance, she makes a surprise return to the village and realizes that, contrary to her belief, her love is unrequited. Jeanne is suddenly swallowed up by sadness and it takes time before she is able to talk about it, and to talk about the child she was expecting but will never have.

THE SUMMER I DIDN’T SLEEPPauline PenotGael feels unhappy with the world and a feeling of guilt weighs him down wherever he goes. His older sister, Alix, has always been better than him at everything (or so he believes). She is a brilliant student surrounded by cohorts of buddies, a socialite who likes going out until late. She’s a joy to be with and makes everyone laugh, whereas he bemoans his fate. Instead of going on his dream vacation to Australia, here he is doing seasonal work at the Châ-teau de Blois where his mother-in-law is the curator. Looks like this summer’s going to be a ball! Things however turn out differently: he begins to share his mother-in-law’s insomnia and they sit up together reading medieval poetry and drinking. He discovers the joys of babysitting and of working in a team. Then he falls in love with an attractive fine arts student whose life he saves. He realizes that a dull summer spent working at home can be much more exciting than he thought. Pauline Penot creates a subtle respectful portrait of adolescence and its ups and downs with nostalgia and humor, and also intro-duces us to the joys of François Villon’s poetry.

PICK UP YOUR BUCKET AND SPADE AND GO PLAY IN THE QUICKSANDHervé GiraudHis name is Anton Chekov – no joke. He lives with his father-in-law, a trusted third party, on board a ramshackle barge on a canal. Anton has a bright red Mohican haircut that makes him easy to recognize, not that he’s thought of that. He has just been expelled from school and decides to dabble in business. But business isn’t Anton’s forte and his partners are far from reliable. Finally he is sentenced to carry out community service for a charity. Against all expectations, Anton finds a sense of family. There is Franco, an ex-boxer with a huge heart, who sets him on the right path. And then there’s also the beautiful Dune. With grinding, acerbic humor, Hervé Giraud fearlessly attacks pre-judice at an infernal pace with characters that bristle with humanity and rage.

THE VOICE OF THE PACK, VOL 1. THE SUBSTITUTES

Gaïa GuastiMila, Ludovic and Tristan are childhood

friends. While each has found their own path in life, they have held onto the ritual of an

end-of-autumn reunion at la Résurgence du loup to celebrate their birthdays. But this

time, they are attacked and bitten by four wild dogs. Once they recover from the shock, they

realize that whenever they’re overcome with emotions, they turn into werewolf- like wild

beasts. More than a tale of the supernatural, this novel subtly evokes the metamorphoses

of adolescence.

THE VOICE OF THE PACK, VOL. 2. THE PREDATORSGaïa GuastiAfter the shock of revelation a year ago, Mila, Tristan and Ludovic begin to enjoy their new state and derive great pleasure from it. The three friends indulge in long races through the forest, nights beneath the stars, drawn together by the hunger of the pack. A new, unsettling animal is also wandering the forest though, unleashing violent impulses in Ludo-vic. The harmony of the trio is unbalanced and has to face new trials with the return of the red-headed she-wolf and the figure of an authoritative blinkered psychiatrist.

THE VOICE OF THE PACK, VOL. 3. ORIGINSGaïa GuastiTwo years have passed since Mila, Ludo and Tristan, first changed shape. After the angst they experienced at their new state, the ela-tion they felt at their discovery and its new sensations, and then the revelation of the power within them, our three teens have followed very different paths. Time has passed and soon they shall have to choose the next victims of their curse, or else they will remain beasts forever. Mila and Tristan cannot come to terms with the task ahead and continue their historical research. During the Résurgence, in underground caverns eroded by water, cave paintings reveal how ancient their curse is. And what if the paintings concealed some kind of solution? Our three heroes are on the brink of adulthood and they have to decide on their destiny.

FROM THE TOP OF THE WORLDRégine Detambel Sweden, 1800. Siri has spent a golden yet tedious childhood in the company of her rich parents and her uncle Aurel, a botanist and physician. Aurel is used to large exotic journeys, from which he brings back all manner of rare plants for the botanical gardens in Stockholm. Siri is fifteen years old when Aurel decides to take her on a major journey. Equipped with measuring instruments, herboriums and a whole chemistry laboratory, they travel the length and breadth of South America, canoe up the Amazon, and traverse its dark jungle to the majestic Cotopaxi, one of the highest volcanoes of the Andes. Journey turns into a voyage of discovery for the girl, and turns everything she had ever thought about the world upside down. Régine Detambel recaptures all the charm of the great 19th century scientific travelogs, with at the heart of the tale a young woman who is curious about the world, and eager to discover her freedom and to share her impressions and discoveries.

A BEAR IN THE SHEEPFOLDQuitterie SimonHis father is a sheep farmer in the Pyrenees. His flocks are being decimated by bears and he vents his spleen against the “clue-less” pro-bear lobby. One day while out walking in woods, Elias discovers an orphaned and wounded baby bear; he knows only too well he won’t be able to take it home. He cannot bring himself to abandon it to certain death. So he starts to live a lie and care for it in secret. But his secret cannot last forever. Will Elias be able to find the right words to save the creature that so riles his father? Quitterie Simon gives a voice to the sheep farmers and we cannot ignore their dilemma.

MEMORY BLANKIsabelle CollombatLeonie, aged 19, a dancer with a prestigious company in Brussels, returns to Lyon for a few days. Leonie is black and was adopted by a well-to-do Lyonnaise family when young. She is harassed on the phone, attacked on the street and in the metro, and she soon realizes that these are no random occurrences. Faced with her parents’ awkward silence, she goes in search of her story. She wasn’t born in France but in Rwanda, where her father had dealings with the army. Twenty years after the genocide, the wound is still very much open for some of her compatriots who are eager for ven-geance. Leonie is dumbstruck. She had never thought the truth of her identity would be so brutal. Now her recurrent nightmares make sense. Fortunately she has dance and her boyfriend to take care of her. A dense, gripping thriller commemorating the Rwandan genocide and its repercus-sions today.

BETTER AND BETTER(SHORT STORIES)Christophe LéonThe action takes place in a “problem zone”, in the “underpri-vileged” housing projects of French suburbia, for which there are plenty of euphemisms, none of which describe the reality. For a brief moment, they hit the headlines then disappear back into obscurity. In E building of the Nelson Mandela estate live Ryad, Driss, and Coraz (whose name in Polish means “getting better”), alongside Maria, Latifah the Lady Gaga fan, Julien alias Honecker, and Stella who posts cries for help and slogans of pride, such as “I AM SOMEONE!” on Youtube, under the pseudo “Boloss”. Someone. Lots of someones. Individuals and characters that come head-to-head in this collection of short stories, in which each takes turn at being the hero. These sometimes comic, sometimes tragic portraits lend the housing projects body and soul, without judgment, without idealization, and without digression. After the success of Désobéis! in the same collection, Chris-tophe Léon’s flourish of tales and characters is matched by his underlying unfailing social commitment.

THE POMMEROL FAMILY’S BIG LIE Valentine Goby and Lili CortinaFor months they’ve been planning a trip to China. They’ve told everyone about it and then wham! Dad loses his job and every-thing has to be called off. To keep up appearances, they pretend they’ve gone and spend the vacation time shut up at home living a Chinese pace of life, foraging around on the Internet to provide credible tales and anecdotes. But Juliette doesn’t like lying (and anyway, usually, it’s forbidden to lie). It’s going to be tough.…

A PEBBLE ON THE ROOF Colin ThibertTill and his funny family lead a rather peaceful life in a Swiss village, until that night when the sky fell on the chicken shed. Meteorites rained down from the heavens, destroyed the roof and killed all the chickens. The event attracted people from all around, even the TV cameras. Till’s friend, Seppi, comes up with a thousand ideas to make the most of the catastrophe: selling off the meteorites, crying wolf, video-edits, etc. To create a buzz but also to make some hard cash.

A new collection with a good dose of humor :

80-120 page volumes, with tasty, madcap, mind-blowing tales.
