Things to know for gathering at the church:
We will be opening the doors to the church soon for Sunday morning worship,
and we are so excited! In order to be a safe as we can be, we are taking every
measure to stay in compliance with CDC guidelines. Because of these guidelines,
things are going to run a little bit differently at first. Here are some things that you
need to know when attending one of our in-person worship services:
Registration
First, and foremost, you MUST have a reservation in order to attend.
Because of CDC social distancing guidelines, the amount of people
allowed in our building is significantly reduced.
We cannot allow anyone who does not have a reservation to enter the
building because we are already going to be maxing out the space
we have according to the CDC.
Be on the lookout for a message with information regarding how to
make a reservation (see details in this newsletter).
Parking
We are asking that everyone park in the Children’s Building/
Carson McLane parking lot.
Because we must control entry into the church, most doors
will be locked.
This parking lot will provide the shortest walk to the Chapel
door, which is the approved entry door.
Handicapped parking will be available in the parking lot on
the corner of Park Avenue and Patterson Street but the
remainder of that lot, as well as the Massey house lot,
will be reserved for volunteers and staff.
Entry
All congregants (excluding people who need physical assistance)
must enter through the door by the chapel.
Those parking in the handicapped lot will be directed as to
where to enter by the parking attendant.
Be prepared to show you reservation confirmation.
We ask that everyone who is on your reservation be
present before being seated to help eliminate confusion
and help things flow smoothly.
Everyone will have their temperature taken, receive hand sanitizer,
and masks are required.
Seating
Reservation groups will be seated by an usher with a safe distance
between each group.
We know people have their “favorite seat”, but we ask you to
understand that the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall will be laid
out in a way that maximizes space, and because of this, choosing
a seat is not an option. When the service wraps up, we ask that you remain seated until the
ushers instruct your row to exit.
We recognize that this is far from ideal. As a staff, we are asking that you have
patience with this process, as we will be learning and adjusting as we go. One
final reminder, please stay home if you, or someone you have been in contact
with, are not feeling well in any way.
We can’t wait to worship together and hope to see each of you soon!
Blessings, PAUMC Staff
Wednesday Meditation on Facebook Live
Join Rev. Towson each Wednesday at Noon for scripture
reading & meditation. Find the church Facebook page
located at Park Avenue UMC, Valdosta and watch the live
stream at Noon or go later and watch the recording. Announcements will be
shared during this time and the session will conclude with a prayer at 12:19pm.
Quarterly Devotionals for June/July/August are available now! The Word for You
Today and The Upper Room are the two publications available at the church. We placed
them in a plastic container on top of the church mailbox (go to the corner entrance door
by the big oak tree from the E. Park Avenue parking lot). Donations may be placed in the
locked mailbox. You may order a printed or digital subscription directly from The Word
for You Today publisher at wordforyou.com. Mailing fees apply, see the website for full
details.
WATCH ONLINE Worship with us online!
Sunday morning service times are currently:
8:55am Traditional
10:00am Sunday School
11:00am Contemporary
Ways to watch include the Park Avenue website,
App, Facebook page, & YouTube channel.
Homeless Bed Rolls
More than 50,000 plastic bags have
been donated, flattened, cut, and
formed into plastic yarn! During this
time of isolation, our staff and
team of volunteers has completed
the weaving of an additional 44
bedrolls to assist those experiencing
homelessness in our community. This brings the total number of completed and donated
bedrolls to just over 100! We are so thankful for everyone who has volunteered their time,
energy, and love for this ministry. A need was identified, and that need has been satisfied
through countless hours of effort. As this ministry goal has reached completion, we
encourage you to continue to reduce-reuse-recycle plastic bags in other ways and look
forward to offering additional ways to make a difference soon.
Clothes Closet News! We are open!!
Normal hours resume Tuesday, June 30th. Come to the
Clothes Closet on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
each week from 9am - Noon to shop. The entrance
door is located at the back of the house on the deck.
Donations are also accepted during our normal hours
or you can use the drop off bin, located under the
carport.
Need a Mask? Our own Jamie Bone and her sisters put
together a DIY video that is posted on the United Methodist
Church South Georgia Conference, South Central District,
website at www.southcentralumc.org/covid19. Along with
watching the video, you can find a mask sewing pattern to
print out.
If you made masks and want to share them, we placed a plastic bin on top of the church
mailbox so others can pick one up. The mailbox is located by the door near the big oak
tree coming in from the Park Avenue parking lot. If you need more information, call the
church office at 229-242-3562.
CHURCH OFFICE HOURS: We are open Monday through Thursday,
9:00am until 2:00pm, for phone calls & appointments only. Please call the
office at 229-242-3562 if you need assistance.
RE-OPENING VOLUNTEER TRAINING
Volunteers will be needed for the upcoming re-opening services held at the church. You
must attend the Volunteer Training on Saturday, June 27th from 10-11AM in the
Fellowship Hall to help. Contact the church office at 242-3562 if you have questions.
Please know our ability to reopen is directly dependent on filling volunteer positions each
week.
RESERVATION FORM
Reservations are required to attend in-person worship for all ages. (At this time,
there are no children services or childcare. Please note that ages 3 and up are
required to wear face masks.)
An email will be sent from Park Avenue UMC to active Members & Visitors
on Sunday evening at 7:00pm for the next week’s worship services at 8:55 and
11:00am. The email will include two forms:
- A Reservation Form for the next Sunday
- A WAITLIST Form for the next Sunday
When completing the Reservation form: - Enter the total number of people as well as the names of all those
who will be on your reservation for your party for your selected
service.
- Indicate if you need handicap parking and assistance. This will
ensure preferred parking, assistance from volunteers, and a
designated entry point.
- You will receive a confirmation email when your form is submitted.
A set number of seats are available for each service. If reservations for a
selected service is full, you may fill out the WAITLIST form. (Please note that
the WAITLIST can also become full.)
When completing the WAITLIST form: - Enter the total number of requested reservations with the names of
those seeking to attend for your selected service.
- Again, indicate if handicap assistance is needed.
As we are able, we will add people from the WAITLIST to each service.
If you fill out the WAITLIST form and are not added to that week’s service, you
will receive early access to the following week’s worship reservations at
6:00pm on Sunday evening. This one-hour advantage will hopefully allow each
family an opportunity to worship in-person on a rotating basis.
Please DO NOT attend worship should you feel sick, live with someone who is
sick, or have been exposed to COVID-19.
Should you need to cancel your reservation, please call the Church Office at (229)
242-3562 Mon. – Thurs. from 9:00am – 2:00pm; or email [email protected].

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES - Lynn Yost, Director
Here we are with another monthly newsletter and I have no new-or old
-dates to share. The only two things I can say for sure are “I don’t
know” and “God is in control.” I’m thankful to know that our Lord has
a plan better than any I could ever think of! We are constantly
watching, thinking and praying about the safest way to have
Children’s Ministries back in some form. Please be patient as we
assimilate the many changes and opinions that seem to come each
day.
I also want to encourage you to continue putting the spiritual growth
of your children at the forefront of what you do. YOU parents are
designed to be the spiritual leaders of your family, and I haven’t lived
through a time when it is more blaringly crucial that we ground our
children in the Word of God and the importance of their relationship
with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Keep pressing on!
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called
me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
I love and miss you ALL!
***Continue to check your email for any news/ opportunities. If you
would like Sunday School packets for your children, please let me
know and I will make some for them.

RE-OPENING PLAN UPDATE
Hard to believe, but we are still living in uncertain times. Re-opening the State
has led to a spike in COVID-19 cases and there is a lot of uncertainty about what
that means and where it is leading. Does it mean we cannot re-open PAUMC for
in-person worship? Not necessarily.
But, here’s what we want you to keep in mind - all plans for re-opening for
worship are just that - they are “PLANS”. Things can change, so we ask that you
remain flexible, as you have so graciously been during this whole time. Thank
you for being patient and understanding that we are doing everything we can to
get us back together as soon as it is safe to do so.
Here are the tentative plans at this moment in time -
SUNDAY - JUNE 28
We plan to have two worship services at 8:55 & 11:00 in the Fellowship Hall by
reservations only on June 28th. If we need to add another service, we can explore
that. Look for more details inside this newsletter on the limitations and safety
guidelines that the CDC requires of us to re-open.
We cannot have services in the Sanctuary on June 28th because of the amazing
touch-up work currently being done to that space. The work (mostly painting and
new carpet) is progressing nicely but simply will not be completed by June 28th.
You are absolutely going to LOVE the way the Sanctuary looks when it is
finished! And, we can’t wait for you to see it!
SUNDAY - JULY 5
If the work is completed in the Sanctuary by this date, we plan to have our regular
2 services - again by reservations only. 8:55 will be in the Sanctuary and 11:00 in
the Fellowship Hall.
Details on how to reserve your spot are in this newsletter. As always, we will
continue our online worship options each Sunday.
Please keep in mind that these plans may change, and we’ll let you know if they
do. Like you, we are growing tired of living in this land of uncertainty. But, aren’t
we glad that we have a God who knows all and who doesn’t live in uncertainty!
And, we can be certain that God’s got this! We just have to trust Him!
We sure do love & miss you guys!
Blessings,
