safety games and take a cyber safety quiz that promotes internet safety.

4. Learn how to be a good digital citizen and how parents can monitor their children’s internet access.

It is important for students and parents to know how to keep students safe when they are surfing the internet.

Promotes students creating an online environment that is safe, responsible and respectful.

Make the most of technology, social networking, and educational resources through integrity and in a positive manner.

WHAT IS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP?

The following are a list of important tips that students should follow when using technology and visiting diff erent sites.

1. I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number without my parents’ permission.

2. I will tell my parents right away if I come across something that makes me feel uncomfortable.

3. I will talk with my parents about posting pictures of myself or others online and not post any pictures that my parents consider to be inappropriate.

4. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away.

5. I will not give out my passwords to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.6. I will check with my parents before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt our computer or mobile device or jeopardize my family’s privacy.7.  I will be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.

For kids to always remember the importance of practicing cyber safety, they can keep five easy tips in mind right by their computer.

1. If your feeling bad or sad about something you saw or heard online, tell an adult.

2. Don’t tell your name, age or address to anyone3. Don’t tell anyone your password4. Don’t talk to strangers5. Only go on good pages.

Parents can help teach their children to become good digital citizens. The internet can be both a wonderful resource, but also a dangerous world. However, if parents are educated on how to stay positively connected in their child’s digital world and have parental control over their children’s internet access, then surely you will be able raise a good digital citizen.
