Term Description

ADD2 Card Advanced Digital Display 2 Card provides digital display options by plugging into a PCI-e x16 connector by using the Serial Digital Video Out (SDVO) interface. The ADD2 card is a low-cost method to attach a second monitor. This allow users to attached and display images on two monitors (multi-monitor). Clone Mode View a copy of one display full-screen on another. Both monitors are displaying the same image.

Dual Independent Mode In this multi-display mode, the OS recognizes each display attached to the system. Each display can have its settings, for example: resolution.

Stretched Mode In this multi-monitor mode, the operating system treat multiple displays as if they were one. The main advantage of this mode is that windowing software does not need to be multi-display aware to take advantage of multiple displays.

DirectX, DirectX10, DirectX11

DirectX is an interface between programs (applications and games) and the drivers that run your graphics, sound and other computer hardware. It plays a role in many functions, including: 3D rendering, video playback, still and motion capture, and TV Viewing applications

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)

A digital rights management to control the digital audio and video content as it travels across the Digital Visual Interface (DVI). HDCP is to prevent transmission of non-encrypted high definition content. The desktop system would encrypt signals before they are sent out as digital signals. The encrypted signals would pass through the DVI-D (ADD2) Connection Card or the ATI HD Radeon graphic cards to a "HDCP enabled" DVI monitor. The DVI monitor would decode the incoming signals. If the DVI monitor is not "HDCP enabled", the monitor cannot display the image.

Unified Video Decoder (UVD)

Unified Video Decoder it is full hardware decode for H.264 and VC-1 found on Blu-ray and HD DVD discs. Better performance by freeing the system CPU from decoding video data.

Video Memory Video cards have their own memory, called “video memory”. More graphics memory enhances graphics card 3D performance since the graphics processor can access data much faster from the graphics card memory than from system memory or the hard drive. Video memory includes: Memory size: Includes 512MB and 1GB. This would be the “size of the water tank”. How much data can be stored. Memory Interface: Includes 64-bit and 128-bit. This would be the “size of the water pipe” How much data can be moved at a moment in time.

View Management Utility (VMU) ThinkCentre ThinkVantage Technology (TVT)

A ThinkCentre TVT software tool that helps customers optimize screen space. It can split, up to two monitors, into multiple parts. The monitor’s can be split into: dual (2), triple (3) and quad (4) display modes. It helps customers work more efficiently by optimizing display space. VMU is pre-installed on selected ThinkCentre systems. To access VMU, click “VMU” icon in TASKBAR. VMU is not downloadable via Lenovo Support website. VMU is compatible with Windows 7 (64 and 32 bit). VMU is supported on DisplayPort, DVI, VGA and HMDI monitor ports. VMU is independent from Microsoft Windows, and graphic card configuration utilities.
