MISSION STATEMENT AD INTRA (for ourselves):
To deepen our experience of Jesus Christ through a vibrant
sacramental life and our common liturgical worship. AD EXTRA (to the world):
To reach our vocational fulfillment individually and as a
community by engaging our neighbor with the Gospel Message.
Ig le s ia Catól ica de La Santa Cruz
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK—DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PASTOR 2
The World in View from a Believer’s Perspective
T he County Courthouse of Silverton
Colorado stands out against the
backdrop of the Bear Mountain. And,
yes, its tower needs a fresh coat. But
those imperfections are more than swallowed up for
the moment while the observer takes in the
breathtaking landscape.
The practice of charity towards anyone has a similar
dynamic to observing this photo: when you look at
the finer details of someone’s life, there are plenty of
imperfections readily seen, but it suffices to say that
the overall image is quite beautiful.
The moral of the story? Before we offer our fraternal
and positive corrections, we should be clear with
others that we admire and love them all the more. It
makes the experience of tweaking habits and
attitudes all the more palatable.
Your Pastor, Fr. Larry
mucho. Esto vuelve más aceptable la experiencia de
ajustar los hábitos y las actitudes.
Su Pastor,
Padre Lorenzo

Please remember Holy Cross parish in your estate
planning and thank you for your continued support of
Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ of Holy Cross,
I can't thank you enough for the invaluable input provided
through your planning study surveys. Your responses helped
me prayerfully discern the best course to take to continue
planning ahead. We have identified our greatest needs
at Holy Cross: firstly, we need to take care of our deteriorating
roof and secondly, we need to support the Bishop's
Evangelization Campaign; Together Let Us Go Forth. The
planning study results demonstrated that we have the
potential to meet these two goals.
The study also showed that we have the potential to meet a
few of the other goals as well, such as a centrally located
tabernacle behind the main altar, and the creation of
partitioned space in Anderson Hall, meeting our need
for increased ministry and event space. The cost for all of
these projects will fall well within our projected return from the
Bishop's Campaign. The other major project, namely the
Adoration Chapel, was well received by many, but we
discovered through your feedback that making it part of the
same Campaign is too ambitious at the present time.
I am most confident that we will support our Bishop well for
our assigned part of the Together Let Us Go Forth campaign,
and I look forward to sharing the details of this next
phase with you. I plan to reach out to those parishioners who
so generously offered to help our Holy Cross community
with the Campaign. Bishop has also invited me to be the first
in our parish to make a sacrificial gift which I was able to fulfill
in part last December. Brothers and sisters, I invite you to
begin your discernment on how the Lord is calling your family
to be a part of this campaign, and, in the upcoming months,
you will be hearing more about how you can get involved.
May God abundantly bless you for your support of His Church,
Fr. Larry
Pastor
With your gift to the CDA, you heed the call to love and care
for others. Even though the economy is improving, demands
on agencies and programs continue to increase. Through
the Charity and Development Appeal, your gift will go farther
and help more people. It can help more than one parish, more than
one program and more than one agency. If you have already
completed a pledge or made a gift online, thank you for your support!
Pledges can be made by completing a pledge card or online at
dphx.org/cda. Thank you once again for your support of the
wonderful work of the Charity and Development Appeal!

Session 7: Exposing the
Mask Over the course of this study
we have explored the classical
view of morality and compared
it to a relativistic worldview. But
it’s one thing to lay the
philosophies out side-by-side for
comparison, and it is quite
another thing to be in the midst of
the difficulties and brokenness of
this world trying to deal with
temptation and sin.
As we will see in this session, many people are relativists not because
they have impartially compared classical morality and relativism and
decided to adopt relativism as a comprehensive worldview, but rather
because relativism gives them a way to cope with sin and brokenness
in their own lives. The alternative to relativism is not just an
alternative worldview—the real alternative is God’s love and
compassion. Engaging moral relativism is all about showing people
how much Jesus loves them—he is “the way, and the truth, and the
life” (John 14:6) for everyone, not just “for me.”

The central claim of the Catholic Faith hinges on the
Person of Jesus Christ. Renew your understanding of
the truth of Christ’s divinity and the salvation offered
to us by his Death and Resurrection.
In The Case for Jesus, Dr. Brant Pitre, answers several
key questions, including:
Were the four Gospels really anonymous?
● Are the Gospels folklore? Or are they biographies?
● Were the four Gospels written too late to be reliable?
● What about the so-called “Lost Gospels,” such as “Q” and the
Gospel of Thomas?
● Did Jesus claim to be God?
● Is Jesus divine in all four Gospels? Or only in John?
● Did Jesus fulfill the Jewish prophecies of the Messiah?
● Why was Jesus crucified?
● What is the evidence for the Resurrection?
Dr. Brant Pitre shows how the divine claims of Jesus of Nazareth can only
be understood by putting them in their ancient Jewish context.

Neighborhood Faith Building Groups
Currently Being Formed
On the 1st Sunday of Lent, 30
individuals who have been preparing
for baptism this past year were
formally accepted as candidates for
Easter baptism. They are now called “the Elect,” the chosen
ones.
Beginning this weekend at the Sunday, 10:00 a.m. Mass, we
will publically celebrate the first of three “scrutinies” for the
Elect. “Scrutiny” comes from a Latin word that means
“worthless things, rubbish.” The word came to be used to
describe a careful search, so careful that it even included a
search of useless debris. The Elect and our parish community
will come together in prayer before God, to uncover and
strengthen any weak spiritual resolve within the Elect and to
bring out and strengthen what is upright, strong, and good.
These scrutinies help complete the Elect’s conversion to
Christ.
Please continue to keep the Elect in your prayers as they draw
closer to the Easter waters of Baptism.
RCIA’s Journey towards Easter
Please join us on Thursday morning, March 8th, from
9am until 11am, in Room H for a morning of prayerful

estadounidenses).
