My dear parishioners, On Monday, June 29th, we return to public dai-ly Mass and the weekend of July 4 – 5, we return to public Sunday Mass. I am very excited that many of you will be able to return to our beautiful church to worship the Lord our God. I know that many of you may not feel comfortable coming back just yet and that is okay. The obligation to attend Sunday Mass is still lifted until further notice. While our parish has provided and will contin-ue to provide live streamed Masses, that is never an adequate substitute for actual attendance and partici-pation in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that “Holy Commun-ion augments our union with Christ. The principal fruit of receiving the Eucharist in Holy Communion is an intimate union with Christ Jesus. Indeed, the Lord said: "He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him."226 Life in Christ has its foundation in the Eucharistic banquet: "As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me." (1391) I know that for a great many of you, the pain of not being able to receive Jesus in Holy Communion has been particularly difficult. It is similar to the pain of not being able to hug or even visit a loved one dur-ing this time of pandemic. We do Zoom calls or FaceTime calls, etc. but nothing compares to the real deal. For many of you, Holy Communion is the strength you need to continue. Let us not discount the fruits of the spiritual communion, but I do hope that during these last three months, it has given you a deeper appreciation for the gift of Jesus’s Body and Blood. In order to help you more worthily receive Jesus, I am offering two extended days of confession on Fridays, June 26 and July 3 from 1 pm to 6 pm. I will be in the sacristy for confessions in order to maintain social distancing. You will still have privacy and the option to be anonymous. I will post other times as soon as I see how it goes. I will not have confessions at the usual time due to the need to prepare properly for Mass. Remember, we are constantly changing and up-dating as we climb out of quarantine. I am available for confession outside of those times to anyone who asks. God bless,
Fr. O’Connor
Padre O’Connor

Notice from our Pastor
As of Monday, June 22, 2020, the parish office is opened from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday only.
When entering the office, you will only be permitted to stand at the window by the office. Please wear a mask at that time.
Public weekday Mass will begin again on Monday, June 29 with the 8:30 am Mass.
Public Sunday Mass will begin on Saturday, July 4th at 5 pm and with Sunday, July 5th at 10 am in English and 12 noon in Spanish.
No more than 175 people are permitted in church at a time due to the 25% capacity restriction. If we go over 175, the parish room will be open for televising of the Mass and communion will be brought to you after Mass. This will probably only ap-ply to the Spanish Mass.
If you do not feel well, do not come to Mass. If you are still nervous about coming out in public, it is okay to stay home. The obligation to attend Sunday Mass has been lifted and re-mains in effect until further notice.
When coming to church, please make sure that you wear a mask and please sanitize your hands while entering.
Please enter through the main doors of the church. You may exit out any of the other doors after Mass. Please follow the instructions of the ushers as this is to protect us all.
Confessions will be available on Friday, June 26 and Friday, July 3 from 1 pm until 6 pm in the sacristy of the church.
Give glory to God and let us praise His Holy Name!
On Line Giving Last week I asked you to make an online gift and many of you have responded. You can make an online gift by texting SUNDAY to 308-300-4848 or go to this link www.givecentral.org/stmaryswinfield to set up regular Sunday giving. Several of you have been very good in mailing in your envelopes or dropping them off in the rectory mail slot. I am very grateful for your continued generosity to the parish.

camente y muchos de ustedes respondieron. Ustedes pue-

¡Demos Gloria a Dios y alabemos Su Santo Nombre!
Our Church History...
Monastic Orders became everyday Fixtures Throughout Thirteenth Century Europe
While monastic groups like the Benedictines and Cister-cians continued to thrive in the Church, groups focusing more on communal poverty and preaching well beyond the monastery walls came into existence. In fact, the Second Council of Lyon officially recognized four new orders: the Franciscans, the Dominicans, the Carmelites, and the Augustinians. While each of these groups arose to meet various needs and challenges, their founding saints, specifically Dominic and Francis, became the new bellwethers of the Church’s expansion. Friars and sisters became standard fixtures in the growing urban centers of Europe, extending a monastic zeal out into the every-day lives of all Christians.
