Feast of St. Cecilia Event

Join with other parishioners for this kick-off event as we take a fresh look at Vatican II Council documents that transformed the way we are Church. Monday, Nov. 17, is the last day to purchase your ticket for this special event. The evening begins with a special Mass at 6 PM to celebrate our Patron, Saint Cecilia, fol-lowed by supper and a talk by Fr. Mike on Lumen Gentium, the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, which celebrates its 50th birthday that very day! Fr. Mike will, as always, make the talk worthwhile and help us see how the past affects our present as we prepare to celebrate our 50 years as a parish in 2017. The $10 fee covers the cost of your simple supper. If you’d like to read a bit on your own, a summary of the work can be found at this website: http://www.statucson.org/sites/statucson.org/files/LT%20Times%20-%20Summary%20of%20Lumen%20Gentium%20%E2%80%93%20Dogmatic%20Constitution%20of%20the%20Church.pdf. Or you can read the document in its entirety at the Vatican website.

Advent Reading

Under the Influence of Jesus is the book selected for our Advent Reading this year. The author, Joe Paprocki, will be leading a discussion on the book and its message on Saturday, January 17, 2015. The Faith Formation Commission will be selling the books again this weekend for the reduced price of $10 a copy. If there are any books left after the sale, they will be available in the Parish Office. We will also have our blue books available at the entrances of the Church for daily meditations. We appreci-ate your donation to help offset the cost of these seasonal favorites.

Jesse Tree Ornaments

Our Religious Education families met for a Family Advent Activity day on Saturday, Nov. 15th. Each family studied a Scripture and designed an ornament for our Advent Jesse Tree which will be in the Gathering Space during Advent. Take a moment when Advent begins to look at the many symbols representative of Scripture stories related to the promises of God and the titles of Jesus.

Advent Holy Hour

On Monday, December 1 at 7 PM plan to join us for an hour of Adoration with music, prayer, and Readings focused on the Season of Advent. Our hour will conclude with Benediction.

Dear Lord, Please bring them

all home safely. Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you.

The good news of today’s Gospel is the extravagance of what is being given us. All we need do is be faithful in “small matters.” The cost of fidelity has no comparison to the reward given. When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society of St Vin-cent de Paul, you are sharing God’s extravagant love. St Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term financial help for parishioners and those living within the parish boundaries. Please call 847-437-6208. Re quests will be handled with care and confidentiality.
