New Logging A new range of functions for system logging has been introduced with Plant Design 2016. This logging is designed to help find causes more quickly when there are problems with the Plant Design applications. The settings for this are found in Plant Design Administrator (Settings > Logging).

The logging function is not active by default, but can be activated as needed with a checkmark. After activation, three levels of logging are available.

As long as no error analysis needs to be conducted, the Simple setting should be used. Once software problems appear, the other logging levels (Detailed or Full) should be used for more specific analyses.

Our support team will decide on this as needed and initiate a request from you. The resulting protocol file (tracelog.log) is stored in the respective active user profile by default: x:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\CAD_Partner_GmbH\PlantDesign14.2016

If necessary, a user-specific storage location can be set up.

In this first version this specific storage location should not be a common or central folder, because currently we cannot create individual Log-files with different file names for different client computers. Currently this must be managed with client folders. The Show trace log button opens the new Trace log viewer. This viewer displays the active protocol file (XML structure) and its contents conveniently and clearly in table form.

Support of Windows 10 All products and applications contained in Plant Design 2016 are certified for the Windows 10 operating system and can be used with this system.

Combined Help file The previously separate Help files (previously one CHM per application) have been combined into one common Help file (CHM) for all applications. Help continues to be context-sensitive, so that a selection from a dialog or program always opens the section for the associated function/application. However, a user can now search directly and comprehensively for information on other Plant Design applications.

Support of SOLIDWORKS 2016 The release version of Smap3D Plant Design 2016 supports only SOLIDWORKS 2016 Service Pack 3.0 or newer.

The support (certification) for the next version SOLIDWORKS 2017 will be added after its release by way of a service pack for Smap3D Plant Design 2016.

Improvements in P&ID

Improvements in P&ID For Smap3D Plant Design 2016, P&ID received the most amount of new features and enhancements to existing functionality overall. As a result, users will enjoy a dramatic increase in ease-of-use and efficiency in their daily work-flow in the P&ID.

Revised symbol libraries With the new version of P&ID, all previously included symbol libraries have been revised and structured according to MM and INCH. Some standards have been duplicated and adapted to the particular unit system. This means that significantly more symbol folders are now available in the P&ID data folder after an installation. The respective standard names or folder names were expanded with the designations _mm and _inch.

Existing symbol folders from previous version will NOT be deleted, modified or overwritten!

Improvements in P&ID

Due to these changes, the Alias names in the Symbol menu ,

as well as the Pickmenus were adapted and restructured in the user interface.

If these new P&ID 2016 structures, symbols and pickmenus should be used in the user interface after an update, the workstation folder in the respective user profile must be DELETED before starting the program for the first time.

Otherwise the OLD Settings from the previous version are retained and will continue to be used.

New and adapted INCH symbols and page templates New English language templates in the ANSI page formats Letter, as well as A, B, C, D, E (in horizontal and vertical position) were added and are available in the respective template folder (Template). The symbols these are based on are included in the symbol folder INCH_Drawings. All INCH symbols and templates contained were adapted with their included geometries to the new standard settings for Snap and Grid when working in the INCH unit system.

For this reason, these symbols should ONLY be used when working with the INCH unit system!

Improvements at work with the INCH unit system

Adapted page settings Standard values adapted specifically to INCH are now stored for the pages settings Normal snap, Fine snap and Grid. Previously the metric standard values were converted 1:1 to INCH, which often led to impractical values for the user and had to be manually adjusted. The new standard values are now automatically used for all newly created files and pages. When using templates to create new files, the basic settings saved in the templates are used.

For existing projects with old settings, the new standard values can be transferred by users via the buttons at Page standard.

New and enhanced functions to line types

New functions for user-defined line types

5 prepared user-defined line types included P&ID 2016 contains 5 user-defined line types. These can be selected directly in the list field Line type. The use of user-defined line types is identical to that of standard line types.

New dialog for user-defined line types Users can navigate to the corresponding dialog with the new Edit lines button in Settings (Basic settings).

This button is INACTIVE (greyed-out) when a user-defined line type is selected in the Line type list field.

Improvements in P&ID

The Edit custom lines dialog contains all relevant functions for creating and managing the user-defined line types (as well as the 5 prepared line types).

All definitions for user-defined line types are stored in the new configuration file CustomLineStyles.ini. As a standard feature, these files are stored in the Workstation folder (User profile), but can also be centrally stored using other functions. When using user-defined line types in a diagram, the corresponding settings are also saved in the respective project. If such a project is opened on a computer where these user-defined lines are NOT defined, they are still contained in the opened project. If required, these line types can then be saved on the active computer/user profile as user-defined line types.

Improvements in P&ID

Enhancement of general pipeline types for display of flow arrows The general conducting line types (displayed in the selection list without an arrow) were enhanced and can now be displayed with a flow arrow on diagram pages. This enhancement was implemented to comply with the standard IEC/EN 62424. For direction-dependent signal pipelines, this standard requires dashed lines with flow arrows. As part of this requirement, the Arrows option was implemented for all pipeline types.

Improvements in P&ID

Improvements to data fields

Line data fields Up to P&ID V11, lines could only be created with the line article data fields Name, Size, Article no. and Spec, and only these data fields were available for information input by the user. The line article data field Description can only be linked with a database field, so that the corresponding content can be displayed in the line article data field after assignment of an article no. Without assignment of an article number, nothing is displayed in the description field. The creation and use of line data fields was introduced with Smap3D P&ID V12. This new functionality has enabled users to pre-define any attributes for lines in order to assign individual values (process characteristics) to the lines in diagrams.

The line data fields and their values are available for the creation of lists and reports. Line data fields are created and defined in Settings > Text-/Symbol defaults.

Recent changes in definition Smap3D P&ID 2016 has updated the buttons for easier definition of line data fields. The and buttons can be used to add or remove data fields. The Sort data fields button opens a window with the list of defined data fields. The display order of the line data fields can be adjusted in this window. Another new feature is the ability to store a value list for each data field via the Values button.

Improvements in P&ID

Recent changes in operation If line data fields are defined, these are available on each line in the Line article data on the diagram pages. With this feature a user can enter individual values (process characteristics) for each line.

If a value list is added to a line data field, it is available as a selection list. Entered or selected values for line data fields are NOT visible in the diagram. However, they can be evaluated in lists (connection lists).

Only line data fields with allocated values are saved in a project file so that the file size is not unnecessarily inflated with empty information. With P&ID 2016, line data values can also be filled in and changed conveniently in list form with the Object lister (F7).

Improvements in P&ID

Symbol data fields The functions for symbol data fields have already been available in multiple versions of Smap3D P&ID. For the most part, our included symbol libraries are also equipped with standard process characteristics in the form of symbol data fields. If symbol data fields are defined at a symbol, these are available in a project, in the component data of a symbol. This allows a user to enter individual values (process characteristics) for each symbol. As needed, data fields from the P&ID database can be defined as symbol data fields in a symbol. After assignment of an article no., these are automatically filled out by the database and are visibly available at the symbol. Previously, only the fields Type, Article no, and Description could be filled out by the database and then became visible at the symbol. The definition of individual symbol data fields is identical to that of the Line data fields and is also performed in Settings > Text/Symbol defaults.

Recent changes in definition Smap3D P&ID 2016 has updated the buttons for easier definition of symbol data fields. The and buttons can be used to add or remove data fields. The Sort data fields button opens a window with the list of defined data fields. The display order of the symbol data fields can be adjusted in this window. Another new feature is the ability to store a value list for each data field via the Values button.

Improvements in P&ID

Recent changes in operation If symbol data fields are defined, these are available on each symbol in the Component data on the diagram pages.

If a value list was added to a symbol data field, it is available in a selection list. With Smap3D P&ID 2016, symbol data fields at a symbol can now be adapted individually when used in the project. With the Add and Remove buttons, data fields can be individually added to or removed from a symbol. With the Edit button, the definitions of an existing data field can be individually adapted.

Improvements in P&ID

Both with Add as well as Edit, the display status of a symbol data field can be individually controlled for each symbol in the project. When the Visible option is activated, the respective data field or its value is visibly displayed at the symbol

Individual editing of the symbol data field in a project has NO effect on the symbols in the library. Such adaptations are only saved in the project. The settings for Text/Symbol standards > General texts > Data fields are always used for the general graphic display (Text properties) of visible symbol data fields. All symbol data fields with activated visibility (regardless of whether they are defined individually in the project or generally in the library) can now be shifted and positioned freely and flexibly in a diagram (at the symbol). The operation is identical to that of the data fields Name, Type, Article no., and Spec. The text attributes are now also available individually for each visible symbol data field.

Value lists/Data lists

For data fields Smap3D P&ID 2016 has harmonized the management of value lists for all types of data fields. In addition to the already mentioned line and symbol data fields, value lists can also be created and used for many more data fields. Value lists should enable the user to select recurring values from a list instead of constantly rewriting or re-entering these values. Value lists can be created for the following types of data fields:

• Project titles

• Page titles

• Chapter titles

• Project data

• Page data

• Symbol data fields

• Line data fields

After entering the values in the Values window, they can be sorted in order via the buttons on the right side. With the Set as default (@@) button, one of the entries can be defined as standard. As a result the symbols @@ are written before the value.

Name and Line number for symbols and lines Data fields Name and Line number as needed, recurring value lists (e.g. for fixed TAG numbers) can also be stored for symbols and lines. This enhancement is based on a special request by a customer who always has to use identical TAG numbers for the same process objects in every project. The value lists used for this purpose are set up to contain more information than just the actual value per row. For this reason, these two value lists are handled differently than as described for data fields. Since a more specific usage is involved, there is currently no software dialog for the definition of these value lists, but the idea is that these can be created easily and quickly in Windows Notepad as text files and then renamed. We distinguish the following files whose file name and file extensions must read exactly as follows:

• NameList.SDD enables predefined TAG numbers for symbols

• LineNameList.LDD enables predefined TAG numbers for lines

• A maximum of 3 values separated by a semicolon should be entered per row. The first entry in a row (before the first semicolon) corresponds to the predefined value (fixed TAG).

• The next two values are designed to save information/statements on the actual value, possibly in different languages. The information is displayed during use and should support the user in the correct selection.

The corresponding button is displayed in the respective dialog (component data and line article data) only if the above files are available in the P&ID installation directory.

When these lists are available, the user has the following options when working in Smap3D P&ID:

• A small Values button is visible on the right in the Name / Line number row

• Clicking on this opens the dialog for selecting a predefined value

• The first column Text contains the values to be used

• The other columns (Information 1 and 2 when available) serve as a description for the Text in the first column

• Double-clicking a row causes the value from the Text column to be taken over as Name/Line number

Improvements in P&ID

Improvements to Reference Designations After the product aspect was added in P&ID V12, the setting and import options for reference designations were significantly expanded and revised with P&ID 2016. The goal was not only to comply with the standard EN 81346 / IEC 81346, but also the ability to apply our functions for reference designations in multiple ways to conventional identification systems.

Enhanced settings

Format tab In this tab, we added many new options for individual adaptation of displaying and operating the aspects. The rules in the standard ISO/ EN / IEC 81346 were used as standard settings.

In accordance with the required identification system (e.g. AKS, KKS, RDS-PP or others), user-specific adaptation is possible.

Standard tab All options in this tab enable further adaptation, but subsequently do not conform to ISO / EN / IEC 81346.

Import tab This tab contains the settings primarily used for the import of external tables as aspect tables.

The options should be used accordingly depending on the source and definition of the external tables (their content and structure).

Reference designation available as symbol data field The display of the reference designation for a symbol is now also possible as a separate symbol data field (with all aspects and options) in the diagram. Previously, the display of a symbol’s reference designation in the diagram was always linked with the display of the Name: data field. As part of the enhancements for symbol data fields, this was enhanced and an independent symbol data field was added for the reference designation (=+- design.). This allows an existing reference designation to be displayed for a symbol in a diagram, individually and independently of the Name: data field.

Improvements in P&ID

New central folder for format files and value/data lists Smap3D P&ID 2016 added two new setting options for centralized storage of configuration files and value/data lists. The two rows Data lists and Format files were added as new options for individual and centralized configuration of directories (Settings > Directories).

Data lists The resulting value and data list files for data fields are saved in the Data lists path. In accordance with their data field naming system, the files are saved there with the following file extensions:

• .PRD - for all data lists for project data

• .PGD - for all data lists for page data

• .SDD - for all data lists for symbol data fields

• .LDD - for all data lists for line data fields The data list for user-defined line types is also saved in this path (if such line types were created). This file then has the permanent file name CustomLineStyles.ini As soon as a user creates an initial user-defined line, this file is stored in this path.

If no user-defined line is created, this file does not exist.

Format files The format and configuration files for export from lists in external files are stored in the Format files path. For the various types of lists and the different configurations per list type, there can be different files with the following file extensions:

• .PFF - for parts lists

• .CFF - for components lists

• .CNF - for connections lists

• .COF - for connect points lists The configuration files for the PDF Export are also saved in this path. There can be an arbitrary number of configurations save with the extension .pdfset.

Improvements in P&ID

Improvement to the Object groups After their introduction with Version 12, the functions for object groups have been enhanced again with P&ID 2016.

Subdrawings are automatically converted to object groups When subdrawings are added to a project, they are now automatically converted to an object group. This means that an added subdrawing can continue to be used as an object unit for various operations. Previously, a subdrawing was always broken into its components when added. The name of the created object group corresponds to the name of the subdrawing file used.

If an object group is selected in the Object groups dialog, all associated objects are marked and highlighted. In this dialog, a user can do the operations:

• Rename

• Ungroup

• Replace

If individual objects in an object group are clicked (in the lower part of the dialog), these can be removed from the active object group. After closing the Object group dialog, normal P&ID functions can be used on the marked objects e.g.:

• Cut

• Copy

• Delete

• Move

Replace object groups from subdrawings with other subdrawings Object groups that were automatically created in a diagram by inserting of subdrawings, can be replaced with other subdrawings.

Procedure:

1. Open the Object groups dialog.

2. Select an existing object group (created by inserting a subdrawing).

3. Click Replace.

4. Select the new subdrawing in Explorer.

5. There are new multiple options available:

• Replace current group

• Replace all on page

• Replace all in project

6. Select the required option and click Replace.

Improvements in P&ID

Normal object group or converted subdrawing? The Replace button in the Object groups dialog only becomes active when a converted subdrawing is selected as the object group. That means that this button does not become active if an object group is selected that is grouped normally in the diagram. When adding and converting a subdrawing to a diagram, an intra-system insertion point is created, which does not exist for normally grouped object groups.

Object group name can be used as a data field The information Object group name is now available as a data field for creating lists and reports. This new data field can also be used to filter internal and external lists (list characteristics).

Pop-up information In this tab, a user can define which data fields from the active project file should be exported in the PDF file.

In the Symbol popup and Line popup columns, a user can individually select which data fields should be exported in the PDF file as pop-up information. Data fields selected here, but which were not allocated any values on the objects (symbols and lines), will not appear in the pop-up information at the respective object in the PDF file. These settings only take effect when the general export of popup information is activated with the options Symbol popup information and Line data popup information in the Setup tab.

Improvements in P&ID

Improvements to DXF/DWG Export

Solution to export problems with P&ID geometries and line elements In V12 there were various problems with the export of geometries and line elements to DXF/DWG. For example, ellipse geometries could not be correctly issued as components of symbols. Furthermore, line gaps/arcs and flow arrows as well as line insulations could not be exported correctly to DXF/DWG files. These problems are completely eliminated and all geometries and line elements from a Smap3D P&ID diagram are now fully and correctly exported in the resulting DXF/DWG files.

New datafields tab The new Datafields tab is in the DWG/DXF mapping options. This gives the user the option of allocating standard data fields from Smap3D P&ID/PCSchematic to defined data field names of a known target application.

In the PCSchematic column, for each row an available standard data field can be selected from a list. This list has numerous data fields from the areas System data, Project data and Page data. In the Other application column, a known data field name from the target application can be entered, thus allocating a P&ID data field to each row. Upon export in the DXF/DWG data, the P&ID data field names are then automatically translated/renamed into the allocated data field name of the target application.

Improvements in P&ID

New settings for Text-/Symbol defaults New settings for text/symbol defaults were implemented for simpler and more harmonized management of predefined defaults from projects and templates. In the menu Settings > Text/Symbol defaults, there is the new All option in the Text defaults area. With the buttons available there, the user can initiate the following with a simple mouse click:

• Transfer all text settings to the project (transfers all standard settings from the software to the active project)

• Load all text standards from the project (loads all standard settings from the active project in the software)

• Save all text standards from the project (saves all text standards loaded from the project as text standards in the software)

The new option Use project default text settings when placing objects in the project ensures that the text/symbol defaults stored in the project are always used when a new objects are added. Previously, new objects were always placed in a project with the standard software settings. Since these settings can differ, this often led to costly reworking to make the new objects correspond to the project settings.

Improvements in P&ID

New Filled option as text property For each type of text, in the Text properties there is now the Filled option. This option can be found in the list field of the Frame setting. As a result of the Filled option, a type of filling in page color is generated for the associated text. As soon as a text overwrites an adjacent geometry, this is displayed as superimposition and not overlap.

New parameter for line spacing in text wrapping Upon special request by a customer, a new parameter for controlling the line spacing in text wrapping was added. The parameter TextLineSpacingFactor= is now contained in PCSCAD.INI in the area [SystemData]. The pre-set standard value for this is 1.5 (the line in the PCSCAD.INI looks like TextLineSpacingFactor=1.5). In case of a change, the separators set up in the Windows operating system must be used as decimal separators for the value. An increase in the value of 1.5 leads to an enlargement of the text spacing after text wrapping.

Lists and evaluations

New in Criteria tab List with used names

When defining Criteria (filter criteria) for a list evaluation, you will now receive help in the form of current lists with Used names. In the Field column, select one of the data fields Name, Type, Article No., Function or Reference designation. The Select name window will appear automatically. In accordance with the selected data field, these lists will display the values (Used names) currently used in the project. A double-click automatically takes over a selection as a criteria value with no need to manually type it in.

This new function works for internal list pages as well as for external list files. New operator

The new operator Contains was implemented as a new option for Criteria (filter criteria). This enables even simpler definition of filter criteria from character or character strings without the mandatory use of placeholder or wildcard characters.

New Design Check Upon special request by a customer, another option for design check for symbols was added. The option Non-unique article enables the user to review whether there are multiple symbols with the same article number in the active project. If this is the case, a message to this effect appears in the design check results.

Improved copying of line article date When using the copy and paste functions in the Line article data dialog, previously only the values from the fields Line number, Size, Article no. and Spec were transferred. With Smap3D P&ID 2016, the setting for Visible, as well as existing values from the Line data fields are transferred from one line to the next.

Improvements in Plant Design Administrator

Improvements in Plant Design Administrator

New additional standard parts providers With Smap3D Plant Design 2016, the opportunities for using proprietary standard and supplier parts has been significantly expanded and simplified. Previously, all parts defined for use in pipe specifications could only be managed in Smap3D PartFinder. By implementing the additional standard parts providers, our solution has become even more flexible. In Plant Design Administrator (Settings > Pipe specifications), next to the main standard parts provider (by default this is Smap3D PartFinder 9.6), there is the new area Additional standard parts providers. With Plant Design 2016 a maximum of 2 entries can appear here, depending on the programs installed in the computer:

• File System

• Cadenas PARTSolutions

Different colors should be selected when using multiple additional standard parts providers. In the subsequent use of the Pipe specification editor, these colors identify the entries and content in the pipe specifications which originate from an additional standard parts provider instead of the main standard parts provider (PartFinder).

Improvements in Plant Design Administrator

File System The entry File System always appears on a computer if at least one Smap3D Plant Design 2016 program (not ScanToCAD) is installed. The new additional standard parts provider File System provides the opportunity to use proprietary standard and supplier parts directly from the Windows file system with Smap3D Plant Design 2016, WITHOUT having to register these beforehand in the PartFinder 9.6 standard parts administrator. With the activation of this option, the top standard parts folder for file storage in the file system (local or central) must be indicated under Settings > File system provider. Proprietary standard and supplier parts for Smap3D Plant Design can then be used directly from this structure (we recommend working with sub-folders). An optional setting enables the selection of whether the indicated path should be saved to the standard parts folder as UNC path.

This can be helpful in some cases for company-wide or location-wide installations if the uniformity of the established drive letter is not ensured.

The basic requirements for proprietary standard and supplier parts (required connection point definitions and file properties in the 3D files) remain in place, of course, since Piping cannot function without these. For fast and easy production or preparation of proprietary standard and supplier parts, we recommend the use of the new Smap3D Component Wizard. This new Component Wizard also works with these settings for file storage in the file system.

SOLIDWORKS parts and assemblies that contain configurations cannot be used with these additional standard parts provider. Such SOLIDWORKS files must still be managed with the main standard parts provider Smap3D PartFinder.

Improvements in Plant Design Administrator

Cadenas PARTSolutions The entry Cadenas PARTSolutions appears on the computer only when the Cadenas PARTSolutions software version 10 service pack 6 or newer is installed. The new additional standard parts provider Cadenas PARTSolutions provides the opportunity to use proprietary and supplier parts directly from Cadenas PARTSolutions with Smap3D Plant Design 2016, WITHOUT having to register these beforehand in the PartFinder 9.6 standard parts administrator.

The corresponding parts are managed only with Cadenas PARTSolutions. Smap3D uses only generated files from the pool path. With the activation of this option and the subsequent use of this additional standard parts provider in the Smap3D Pipe Specification Editor, the user must independently ensure that Cadenas PARTSolutions is installed and licensed on all computers (clients) that will be using Smap3D Piping.

If this is not the case, pipe specification content from Cadenas PARTSolutions cannot be used in Smap3D Piping.

The basic requirements for proprietary standard and supplier parts (required connection point definitions and file properties in the 3D files) remain in place, of course, since Piping cannot function without these. With Cadenas PARTSolutions Version 11 they will start to provide successive catalogs and parts which already contain this required Smap3D connection point information. These parts require no further adjustments. After they are generated, all other parts and catalogs (without Smap3D classification) must still be processed in the Cadenas PARTSolutions data pool with Smap3D connection point definitions. For this we recommend using the Smap3D Coordinate System Wizard.

Component Wizard

New Component Wizard The new Component Wizard is available with Smap3D Plant Design 2016. This new assistant guides a user comfortably through the necessary steps for making a component for Smap3D Plant Design from a standard SOLIDWORKS 3D model. A SOLIDWORKS part file is interactively processed in multiple steps with the required connection point definitions and file properties so that it is immediately available for use with the new additional standard parts administrator File System. The Component Wizard can be started in different ways:

• By default, it is always available in the Windows Start Menu CAD-Partner > Smap3D Plant Design 2016 > Admin Tools.

• If Smap3D Toolbars (from within the Plant Design Administrator) are installed, the associated button can be accessed in the parts environment of SOLIDWORKS.

• When creating or editing pipe specifications in the Pipe Specification Editor with an active File System standard parts provider, the user is asked if he wants to use an existing Plant Design component or prepare a new one with the Component Wizard.

Properties In this step, the required and/or optional standard properties are displayed in accordance with the component type. If required properties are displayed, a user must enter the corresponding values for these. Optional properties can theoretically remain empty, but we recommend adding as much information as possible for the components so that these are also ready for any future needs. In addition to the optional properties displayed by default, further optional properties can be created (the functions for this are in the context menu).

Save component The processed component is saved in the last step. If the active 3D part file was already saved before processing with the Component Wizard in the standard parts folder for the additional standard parts provider File System (or a sub-folder therein) this is displayed in the Folder location line. By clicking on the Finish button followed by Yes, the 3D file is overwritten/replaced at this storage location. If a storage location for the active 3D part file is recognized outside of the standard parts folder for the additional standard parts provider File System, an additional notification is displayed in red text in the Component Wizard window. The location folder for the standard parts folder for the additional standard parts provider File System, set up in Plant Design Administrator, is displayed in the Storage location line. This storage location can be changed to a sub-folder with the button on the right. By clicking on the Finish button, a copy of the active 3D part file will be stored in the established folder location.

Preparation done with the Component Wizard is only available as a copy in this case. The original file (outside of the standard parts folder) is not changed.

Cadenas PARTSolutions The Cadenas PARTdataManager starts with the button in the Cadenas PARTSolutions column. This application must be installed and licensed on all Smap3D client computers.

If this is not the case, pipe specifications content from Cadenas PARTSolutions cannot be used in Smap3D Piping. The search and selection of a required component takes place only via native PARTSolutions functions. The Transfer to CAD (Smap3D Plant Design) button becomes active after selection of a component in PARTdataManager.

When the button is clicked, Cadenas starts generating the components as a native SOLIDWORKS file.

This can take some time, depending on the complexity of the selected components. The pool path defined in Cadenas PARTSolutions (PARTAdmin) is used as a storage location.

The corresponding parts are managed exclusively with Cadenas PARTSolutions. After generating, the line in the pipe specification editor with the selected and physically generated component is displayed in the defined color. The Part name column shows the file name without extension created by Cadenas. The Category column shows the name of the Cadenas catalog category.

Further news to Pipe Specification Editor

New setting in Options tab As of Smap3D Piping version 11 in conjunction with SOLIDWORKS, the line ends of pipeline paths based on connected ends from SOLIDWORKS 3D-sketches are automatically provided with the flange components from the pipe specification. For all users who do not need to use this general automation in every situation, a new function was installed which can switch off this automatic placement of flanges on connected line ends. The function Do not place flanges on connected ends automatically can be activated at any time:

• In the pipe specification editor, this can be defined as an option per pipe specification (global) or individually per diameter in a pipe specification.

• To use this function in an even more individualized manner, the setting saved in the pipe specification (global or per diameter) can be changed individually in Smap3D Piping during pipe specification selection for the functions Generate pipeline and Edit pipeline. See details.

Moved setting in Options tab The Smap3D Piping option Cut off pipes after reaching maximum length and place part automatically, which has been available for several versions, was removed from Plant Design Administrator as a general setting and moved to the pipe specifications editor as an individual setting. This way, this option can be used as needed per pipe specification (global) or even individually per diameter. This increases the flexible use of the automations available in Smap3D Piping in accordance with the user’s requirements.

New in Pipe Specification Editor

New QuickPlace method and new key name In version 2016, the new QuickPlace method Shape gasket is available in the pipe specification editor and Smap3D Piping.

In an update, this new key name is automatically added to existing pipe specification configurations (Common settings - PipeSpecificationCommon.pssx). This new QuickPlace method now offers the opportunity to automatically place a Shape gasket between Shape pipes. This was not possible before. In contrast to normal gaskets (for round pipes), a shape gasket part has only one coordinate system (CO_ORDS). This must be placed in the center of the gasket (thickness/2).

For this we recommend using the Coordinate System Wizard.

The shape pipes used for this must also be prepared for the placement of a Shape gasket. The connection points coordinate system pairs must be placed outside the shape pipe geometry, with the value of the half of the gasket thickness. Furthermore, these connections must contain the end treatment Shape gasket (ET=1004).

For this we recommend using the Coordinate System Wizard.

New components in the Piping structure tree display The display of the components in the Piping structure tree was expanded with Smap3D Plant Design 2016. Now all types of components that contain CO_ORDS coordinate system definitions are displayed. Support components which were manually added to a pipeline or added via the Place component pattern function now appear in the structure tree. Furthermore, split-point components are also displayed now. We differentiate between the Pipe-Split Point created in the Split pipe function and the Isometric Split Point created in the Place split point for isometric function.

Improvements of existing Piping automations

Taking into account support components in Edit Pipeline function With the enhancement of the Piping structure tree display support components are now also taken into account with the Edit pipeline function. If the Edit pipeline function is used to switch from one pipe specification (one diameter) to another pipe specification or diameter, the support components will now also be taken into account in the editing.

• If support components are defined in the new pipe specification or diameter, they will replace the previous ones.

• If no support components are defined in the new pipe specification or diameter, the previous ones will be deleted.

Automatic placement of missing concentric components The functions Place concentric components and Place concentric components twice have been available for several versions. A rare occurrence in these automations is incorrect placement of the required concentric component at the connection point of the pipeline path after the function is completed. Or a user has mistakenly deleted a concentric component. In the past, in both cases this had to be corrected by the user interactively. With Piping 2016, the Recalculate pipeline function can be used quickly and easily. Recalculate pipeline identifies missing concentric components at the connection points between generated pipelines and places the appropriate concentric component from the pipe specification used.

A requirement for this is the use of the same pipe specification on the connected pipeline paths.

Deactivation of the automatic flange placement at connected line ends A new option was added in the Pipe specification editor for better individual control of the existing automation for Placement of flanges at connected line ends. When selecting a pipe specification with the Smap3D Piping functions Generate pipeline and Edit pipeline, the previous dialog also has the option to deactivate this function with the option No flanges on connected ends.

The status displayed at selection of the pipe specification (with checkmark or without) reflects the setting saved in the pipe specification. A user can change these according to his own current requirements.

Automatic use of Favorites for non-unique components If multiple components are defined for the same automation in a pipe specification for a diameter (non-unique components), one of the components must be defined as a Favorite. After selecting the pipe specification and the diameter for the Piping functions Generate pipeline and Edit pipeline, the dialog Non-unique components always appeared previously and a user had to change or accept the pre-definitions. The appearance of the dialog Non-unique components can now be suppressed/switched off through the Use favorites option.

This option is available in the Piping dialog functions Generate pipeline, Edit pipeline and Non-unique components. If this option is activated and used, the dialog Non-unique components are no longer displayed for the respective pipeline in any subsequent processing step. This setting is also saved in the respective pipeline path. The NON-favorite components from the pipe specifications can then only be used for such a pipeline via the interactive functions, e.g. Place part, Replace part, etc.

Improved software feedback In Piping 2016, various software feedback messages were revised and enhanced.

Bidirectional highlight in Piping window after selection in CAD working window Previously, pipeline paths could only be selected in the Piping window so that they were highlighted in the CAD working window and FeatureManager. This now works bidirectional. That means that a pipeline path is selected and highlighted in the Piping window after clicking on it in the CAD Working window.

Plausibility check for violation of the minimum straight length This plausibility check and especially its related warning messages are further detailed so that different situations are reported in the case of a violation and can be more easily recognized and eliminated by the user.

Display of the defined and identified minimum straight length If a violation against the minimum pipe length defined in the pipe specification is determined in the Piping functions Generate pipeline, Recalculate pipeline, Edit pipeline and Refresh, the defined value from the pipe specification as well as the value identified in the pipeline will now be indicated.

Differentiation between positive and negative gaps The plausibility check also differentiates whether there is a positive or negative gap between the fittings (connection points).

• A positive gap is always present if two fittings are placed apart from one another on the pipeline path, but the distance between the connection points is smaller than the value defined in the pipe specification for minimum straight length (see previous point).

• A negative gap is present if two fittings overlap and therefore the distance between the connection points is negative and smaller than the value for the minimum straight length.

Plausibility check for closed loops and overlapping lines for pipeline paths For some time now, a plausibility check for closed loops and overlapping line elements has been performed when using the Generate pipeline path function. New in Piping 2016 is the graphical feedback (highlight), to show which of the existing line elements are affected by this.

Further improvements in Piping

Piping 3D sketch is automatically hidden with the Finish and Save function Previously the Piping 3D sketch (the basis for the pipeline path) had to be manually hidden be the user with SOLIDWORKS functions. With Piping 2016 this now occurs automatically when using the Finish and Save function. Finish and Save performs the following Piping functions automatically in sequence:

• Refresh all - All generated pipelines are refreshed.

• Show all components - All fittings, pipes and insulations are set to be visible.

• Hide all Piping 3D sketches - All Piping 3D sketches in the active assembly are hidden.

• Save - The active assembly file is saved.

• Exit - Smap3D Piping is ended.

DummySeg Feature automatically deleted in SOLIDWORKS Feature Manager When working with Smap3D Piping in SOLIDWORKS, in previous versions the feature dummySeg (a 3D sketch) was already present at some point in the Feature Manager of a pipeline assembly. Smap3D Piping must generate this feature in situations in which a user highlights single elements of the Piping 3D sketch (segments) in the SOLIDWORKS working window. There is no other technical solution for this according to SOLIDWORKS development. In the previous versions, this 3D sketch feature remained listed in the SOLIDWORKS Feature Manager and visible in the working window. In some cases, this led to misunderstandings between manual placement of components and users sometimes created links to the wrong sketch feature. In Piping 2016, this dummySeg feature is now automatically deleted again immediately after the use of Piping (highlight of segments). This feature is therefore only temporarily included in the Feature Manager during active highlight of a Piping segment in the SOLIDWORKS working window. If a different Piping function is started, this feature is automatically deleted.

Functional range for working WITHOUT pipe specifications was turned off With Piping Version 1, it was only possible to work without pipe specifications. Over the course of the years and versions, the options and automations for working with pipe specifications became more comprehensive and efficient, so that even the last clients without pipe specifications switched over to working with pipe specifications several versions ago. Since these original functions for working without pipe specifications no longer have any area of application or purpose, they were completely turned off in Piping 2016.

New in the P&ID To-Do list

New in the P&ID To-Do list New plausibility check for redundant components A new plausibility check for redundant components in a 3D pipeline was enhanced in the P&ID To-Do list. This check can bidirectional generate a related notification in the P&ID as well. The plausibility check is activated to check redundant 3D objects against P&ID project (this function needs write access to the P&ID project file) in the P&ID To-Do List options.

If this option is activated, each time the functions Generate pipeline, Recalculate pipeline, Edit pipeline and Refresh are used, Piping will check (only in cooperation with the To-Do List) whether there are more 3D components placed in the active 3D pipeline than specified by the P&ID. If a violation is identified, the associated notification will display the name of the redundant component as well as the name of the affected pipeline.

If the user has write permission for the PRO file, this inconsistency is also recorded in the P&ID project.

New in the P&ID To-Do list

The next time the PRO file is opened, a corresponding notification will also appear in the P&ID application.

This check and all associated notifications should enable a user to eliminate these logical errors in the 3D assembly.

New in the P&ID To-Do list

Use of the P&ID line data fields The line data fields in a Smap3D P&ID project can now also be used in the To-Do list. The use of line data fields is activated in the To-Do List options.

If this option is activated and if a P&ID project is loaded or updated, the line data fields at the P&ID lines are also displayed in the line properties area.

When assigning a pipeline from the To-Do List to a 3D pipeline path in Piping, these displayed properties are also written as virtual characteristics to the CAD occurrences and the status (OK, Out of date or Deleted) is used for the plausibility check.

New in the P&ID To-Do list

Direct access to standard parts providers for placing components to CAD So that the To-Do List function Place fitting to CAD can automatically place the corresponding 3D component in the CAD, it is necessary for the P&ID ID to be assigned for a 3D component in the pipe specification used.

This is the only way a P&ID article number can be linked to a 3D component.

If these definitions were not present in a pipe specification in the previous versions, the Place fitting to CAD function could not be used since no further actions outside of an information notice would be possible.

What is new in Smap3D PlantDesign 2016 Page 78

New in the P&ID To-Do list

This was significantly enhanced in the 2016 To-Do List. If a user selects a component in the To-Do List and starts the function Place fitting to CAD, a check is performed as to whether a P&ID ID is saved in the pipe specification so that the component can be automatically placed and assigned. If this not the case, the Standard parts provider dialog appears. Depending on the settings in Plant Design Administrator, a user has direct access to the available standard parts providers here. After selecting a standard parts provider and clicking OK, this standard parts provider starts and from there a user can place the desired components in the active 3D assembly by way of the contained functions.

When the placement of the 3D file is finished, the component assignment from the To-Do List follows automatically.

More improvements in the P&ID To-Do List

Direct assignment of a P&ID Project for new 3D assemblies Starting the P&ID To-Do List for a new 3D assembly in the previous versions only generated a notification that no P&ID project was assigned to the active assembly and the user was asked to carry out this assignment with the associated function. With Version 2016 the access to this assignment function was directly integrated in this notification.

Clicking on Yes automatically starts the assignment function for a P&ID Project.

New in the P&ID To-Do list

New option for recalculation after pipeline assignment The P&ID To-Do List options now include the option Run recalculate after pipeline assignment. If this option is activated, the Piping function Recalculate pipeline is performed directly after every pipeline assignment from the To-Do List. For the user this eliminates an extra click to start this function separately.

New option for carrying out the P&ID To-List plausibility checks Plausibility checks have been available in the P&ID To-Do List for several versions now (and the numbers are growing). These check the various rules in the interaction between a P&ID project and a 3D assembly and report or display violations. Previously all of these plausibility checks were only used before or during the performance of the functions Generate pipeline and Edit pipeline. Since there are always users in practice who make changes in a 3D assembly without using the respective Piping or To-Do List functions, or who do not even activate the Smap3D Plant Design solution during a change, in these cases it is useful to perform these checks before the functions Recalculate pipeline or Refresh in order to notify the user of error and violations. With the new option Use P&ID To-Do List checks before Piping recalculate and refresh function this can be activated.

New in the P&ID To-Do list

New user-defined property for assigned P&ID Project When assigning a P&ID Project file with the To-Do List, previously the important information about the P&ID file name and its storage location were invisibly written as a virtual characteristic in the assembly file. When managing these files (3D assembly and the linked P&ID project) with a PDM system, this information was previously only available invisibly on the 3D assembly file. These can be read or changed via the Smap3D API, but this requires the file to be open in SOLIDWORKS and Smap3D. With Version 2016, an additional user-defined property is written in the assembly file as soon as a P&ID project file is assigned with the To-Do List. The Name of this property is always PD_PIDProjName The storage location and the file name of the P&ID project file is used as the value (e.g. C:\Smap3D P&ID\PROJECT\PID project.pro). When managing with a PDM system this property can be used to change the possibly modified storage location and file names of the originally linked P&ID project file in accordance with specific PDM work flows (e.g. checking out, revisioning, copying, etc.) so that Smap3D Piping along with the To-Do List use the correct data.

This information is always used when starting the To-Do List in order to open the linked P&ID project file.
