GENERAL INFORMATION

The official Call for Applications for the admission to the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations (School of Political Science – Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna) for the a.y. 2018/2019 has been published in Italian on the 12th of March 2018 as “Bando per l’ammissione al Corso di Laurea magistrale a numero programmato in Relazioni Internazionali Cod.8782”, and it is available on the website of the abovementioned degree programme. The present document is a summary in English which contains primary indications regarding the application requirements and deadlines. For a complete set of instructions and further information on admission, candidates are strongly advised to consult the official call for applications published in Italian.

The programme has five curricula:

- Relazioni Internazionali (RILM- RI) taught in Italian;

- European Affairs (RILM –EUA) entirely taught in English;

- International Affairs (RILM- IA) entirely taught in English;

- Forecasting, Innovation and Change (RILM-FIC) entirely taught in English, - International Criminology (RILM-IC) entirely taught in English.

WHO SHOULD DO THE APPLICATION? All students willing to enrol in one of the five curricula of the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations, including those who want to transfer from others 2nd cycle degree programmes of the University of Bologna or from any other university. DEADLINES:

The call for application for the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations is divided into 2 parts: the first one deals with the curriculum Relazioni Internazionali, the second one with the curricula European Affairs, International Affairs, Forecasting, Innovation and Change and International Criminology. Candidates have to observe the deadlines and requirements of the curriculum they are interested in. http://corsi.unibo.it/2Cycle/InternationalRelations/Pages/applications-and-admission-sessions-ay-20172018.aspx Candidates can select both the curriculum in Italian and/or one of the four curricula in English. They cannot apply for more than one curriculum in English. When applying, candidates are required to express their preference for a single curriculum in English. However, this preference is not binding, as the candidate may, in the enrolment stage, confirm or modify it. Applications for two curricula (one in Italian, one in English) involves the compilation of two different registration forms. DSA and Handicapped Candidates:

If you are a student with a disability resulting in recognised invalidity of 66% or more, or if you have disability certification pursuant to Law 104/9 and Law 170/2010 you must also present a copy of the certificate attesting your condition by the 29th of August 2017. Details can be found on the webpage “Exemptions for handicapped students”. Moreover, in case you are accepted for a written/oral exam you may ask for assistance and special aids in order to overcome possible difficulties or barriers during the admission exam AVAILABLE POSITIONS For the a.y. 2018/2019 there are 140 positions available for the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations. Positions are divided as follows:

- 30 positions for the curriculum: Relazioni Internazionali: 25 positions are reserved to Italian citizens, EU citizens, and non-EU citizens that have equivalent status to that of a EU citizen (“equiparato”), and 5 positions to non-Eu citizen, among which 5 positions are reserved to Chinese students that take part to Marco Polo project. - 110 positions for the curriculum: European Affairs, International Affairs, Forecasting Innovation and Change, and International Criminology: 95 positions are reserved to Italian citizens, EU citizens, and non-EU citizens that have equivalent status to that of a EU citizen (“equiparato”), and 15 positions to non-EU citizens residing abroad;

- The positions not assigned to Chinese students will be made available to non-EU candidates.

- The positions reserved to Non-EU candidates residing outside Italy not entirely assigned, they will be made available to Italians and EU candidates and “equiparato” non-EU candidates that have equivalent status of EU candidates.

For the purposes of the call for applications, the following non-EU citizens have equivalent status to EU citizens: - citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and San Marino;

- Non-EU citizens holding an Italian EC long-term residence permit (ex “residence card”) or an Italian permit to stay for reasons of work (either employed or self-employed), for family reasons, for political asylum, for humanitarian asylum or for religious reasons;

- non-EU citizens who have been legally residing for at least one year in possession of a degree obtained in Italy;

- non-EU citizens that are holders of diplomas from Italian schools abroad or foreign or international schools, working in Italy or abroad, subject to bilateral agreements or special regulations for the recognition of degrees and that satisfy the general conditions required for the entry for study;

- the staff of foreign diplomatic authorities and of international organisations located in Italy – accredited with the Italian Government or the Holy See – together with their dependant relatives, limited to spouses and children;

- candidates holding a valid Italian permit of stay for study reasons who have already enrolled on a degree course of this or other Italian universities, provided that they have been regularly residing in Italy for at least one year, who submit a request of transfer;

- candidates holding an Italian C1 and C2 certificate, issued by CLIQ system. Please keep in mind that EU citizens and non-EU citizens that reside in Italy, students that have an Italian high-school diploma or bachelor degree issued by foreign and international schools granting facilitated entry conditions do not have to take the Italian language exam. N.B. In addition to applying for admission to the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations, non-EU citizens residing abroad should also comply with the terms and procedures to enrol in Italian Universities which are annually established by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) available at http://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/ . Particularly, they are required to promptly contact the Italian Embassy-Consulate in the student's country of residence for information on the procedures and deadlines for submitting the compulsory PRE-ENROLMENT APPLICATION and, upon completion of the pre-enrolment process, for obtaining a valid Italian visa for study reasons ("Enrolment/University"). For more information in English please visit the following website: http://www.unibo.it/en/international/index.html Attention: non-EU citizens holding an Italian permit of stay for study reasons who have formally renounced to study at the University of Bologna or at any other Italian University lose the right to stay in Italy. These candidates will have to return to their countries of origin and start the pre-enrolment procedure at the Italian Embassy-Consulate within the deadline annually established by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in agreement with MIUR and the Ministry of Interior. In case of dual citizenship, one of which is Italian, the Italian citizenship prevails and the candidate will be considered as EU citizen.

CURRICULUM: RELAZIONI INTERNAZIONALI ( taught in italian)

A1 – ADMISSION PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS These candidates (Italian, EU, “equiparato” non-EU with EU equivalent status) must apply during this time-frame:

• from the 12th of March 2018 (16.00 CET) through the 16th of April 2018 (16.00 CET),

• from 17th of May 2018 (15,00 CET) through the 18th of June 2018 (15,00 CET)

following the procedure below:

1. Connect to Studenti Online on the website www.studenti.unibo.it and create an account clicking on: “Se non sei ancora registrato (Not registered)” or, if you have already registered, enter your username and password to access the online service and read step 3;

2. Fill in all mandatory fields. Non-Italian students who do not hold an Italian Tax ID (“codice fiscale”) have to click on “International students registration” and follow the instructions to create an institutional User ID and Password; After the first access it is necessary to create a personal password. It is important to keep in mind one’s User ID and Password as they will be always requested to access your personal profile in www.studenti.unibo.it.

3. Click on “Entrance exams or requirements check” (Prove di ammissione) button. Select “Second cycle degree programme” (Laurea Magistrale) and click on “Next”, then select "Concorso Relazioni Internazionali - Curriculum Relazioni Internazionali ”

4. Complete all the steps and upload all the documents requested (the format should be in .pdf for all documents) and pay the call fee, €50.00 (fifty euro). The fee can be paid online by means of a debit and credit card: Visa, Mastercard, Diners, American Express, or in any Unicredit Bank in Italy using the payment code which is automatically generated after the candidate has completed the application. The fee will not be refunded independently of the reasons.

N.B. The 50 euros fee must be payed once, regardless the number of curricula a candidate applies for.

Only candidates who have completed the registration for the selection test and have paid the relative contribution within the terms and according to the procedures described above are admitted to the selection test.

List of the documents that candidates must upload for the application:

1) Full transcript of all exam (with scores, ECTS/credits and field -SSD) and graduation mark (in case the candidate has already graduated). Italian and EU candidates, as well as “equiparati” candidates must complete and upload the Self-Certification of their Degree (it must contain the handwritten signature of the candidate).

Non-EU candidates residing outside the EU must upload the official certificates (transcript of records) and their sworn translations into Italian or into English.

2) A valid B2 (or above) certificate of English language (issued no more than 2 years prior to the application deadlines): TOEFL - computer-based – of at least 213 points; TOEFL - paperbased - of at least 550 points; TOEFL - Internet-based – of at least 79 points, IELTS - of at least 6.0 points; Cambridge FCE; Trinity Integrated Skills II; Trinity GESE 8; a B2 level certificate in English released by a University Language Centre; a certificate showing that the B.A. or the B.Sc. was achieved in an English-speaking university; a certificate showing that the B.A. or the B.Sc. was taught entirely in English; having achieved at least 10 ECTS/CFU in SSD L-LIN/12 (English language and English linguistics). 3) Transcript of Records (with scores, ECTS/credits and field -SSD obtained on Erasmus mobility) , only for about to graduate student with 130 ECTS. 4) Curriculum vitae with a handwritten signature; 5) Copy of a valid ID or passport.

6) Copy of stay permit (“permesso di soggiorno”), if the candidate has it already.

7) The Self-Certification of the Curricular Requirements, which must be filled in all its parts and it must have a handwritten signature.

8) Application form for adaptations for candidates with disabilities and candidates with DSA.

A2- SELECTION CRITERIA AND EVALUATION:

An Admission Committee composed of professors affiliated with the School of Political Science will guarantee the correctness of the admission process.

The Admission Committee will check the curricular requirements of all candidates.

In order to apply for the admission to the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations, curriculum Relazioni Internazionali, it is necessary to have: A First Cycle Degree from an Italian university among those listed below or an equivalent First Cycle Degree (B.A. or B.Sc.) from a non-Italian University which grants access to a Second Cycle Degree (M.A., M.Sc.) in the issuing country. In particular, Italian and foreign qualifications should belong to one of the following disciplinary fields: L-1 Cultural heritage, L-3 Visual arts, music, performing arts and fashion studies, L-5 Philosophy, L-6 Geography, L-10 Humanities, L-11 Modern languages and civilisations, L-12 Linguistic mediation, L-14 Legal services, L-15 Tourism, L-16 Administration and Organisation, L-18 Economics and Business Organisation, L-20 Communication, L-24 Psychology, L-33 Economics, L-36 Political science and international relations, L-37 Peace studies, L-39 Social Service, L-40 Sociology, L-41 Statistics, L-42 History, LMG-01 Law (Giurisprudenza). For those who are in possession of a foreign qualification or of a previous degree of title to the D.M. 509/1999, the Commission assesses the possession of knowledge and skills on the basis of the previous career and the appropriateness of the qualification with respect to the expected curricular requirements.

The call for applications for the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations (RILM) - curriculum: Relazioni Internazionali is also open to students who have not graduated yet only if they have already achieved at least 130 ECTS/CFU by the time the application closes (please refer to the deadlines chart for further information). Moreover, these students must graduate, achieve their B.A./B.Sc. degree and enrol in the 2nd cycle degree in International Relations (RILM) by the 27th of December 2018. The Candidate must make sure that he / she possesses the curricular requisites before applying the admission test. Information and/or clarifications to this effect may be requested from [email protected]

In addition, Italian candidates, EU candidates, “equiparati” non-EU candidates with EU equivalent status, and non-EU candidates must have B2 level or above knowledge of English Language (please refer to the deadlines chart on the call for applications). In case the candidates did not upload during the online application a valid B2 level (or above) English language certificate they must sit for an English language exam in Bologna. Please check the deadlines chart for accurate information on dates and venues. The applications of Non-EU candidates that do not upload a valid B2 English language certificate will be automatically rejected. N.B. CHECKING THE ADEQUACY OF THE PREPARATION

Admission to the International Relations course - RILM-RI "International Relations" curriculum is subject to passing a check on the adequacy of personal preparation, which is achieved by obtaining a minimum score awarded to the candidate at the end of the assessment of qualifications including a possible in-depth evaluation of qualifications through an interview (see paragraph. SELECTION PROCEDURE). The verification of the adequacy of the personal preparation is considered passed with the achievement of a score greater than or equal to 45/100 (forty-five / hundredths) in the overall assessment of the admission requirements required according to the methods indicated above.

On 15 May 2018 (first selection) and 25 July 2018 (second selection) the final ranking of accepted students will be published on www.studenti.unibo.it

A specially appointed examining committee composed of at least three effective and alternate members, chosen from the teaching and research staff belonging to the School of Political Sciences, guarantees the correct performance of the selection test procedures.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

It is possible to participate in one selection only. Candidates not considered suitable for the first selection cannot apply again to the second.

Each selection takes place in two phases:

DETAILS ON EVALUATION OF ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Phase 1: The evaluation of the curricular and linguistic requirements involves the attribution of a score calculated according to the following criteria:

a) Academic merit (weighted average of marks in thirtieths): 40 points

The assigned score is calculated according to the following formula:

40 points are awarded to all those who have a weighted average of marks equal to or higher than 29.5.

A penalty is applied to those who have earned less than 150 credits according to the following formula:

A.3 RANKINGS

The candidate who possesses the curricular requisites, the knowledge and linguistic skills required and obtains a score greater than or equal to 45/100 is considered suitable and included in the ranking of merit. Failure to reach the minimum score prevents registration in any case. With the same score, priority is given to the younger candidate. Candidates placed on the ranking list can be enrolled until all available positions are exhausted.

The ranking will be published on www.studenti.unibo.it on May 15, 2018 (first selection) and July 25, 2018 (second selection)

The publication of the rankings on Studenti Online is the only means of legal advertising on the results of the evaluations.

An Admission Committee composed of professors affiliated with the School of Political Science will guarantee the correctness of the admission process.

The candidates are therefore reminded to present themselves preferably with the same identity document used in the selection procedure.

The commission of selection, in special and motivated cases, upon request of the candidate, and to encourage the participation of foreign students (in order not to compel them to face additional transfer costs to participate in the selection interview), reserves the right to carry out the interview in a manner to be determined (without prejudice to the verification of the candidate's identity and the correct execution procedure).

B.3 RANKINGS

The candidate who possesses the curricular requisites, the knowledge and linguistic skills required and obtains a score greater than or equal to 45/100 is considered suitable and included in the ranking of merit. Failure to reach the minimum score prevents registration in any case. With the same score, priority is given to the younger candidate. Candidates placed on the ranking list can be enrolled until all available positions are exhausted.

The ranking will be published on www.studenti.unibo.it on May 15, 2018 (first selection) and July 25, 2018 (second selection)

The publication of the rankings on Studenti Online is the only means of legal advertising on the results of the evaluations.

CLEARING PROCEDURE IS POSSIBLE ONLY IN THE SECOND SELECTION.

PHASE1 - DECLARATION OF INTEREST IN CLEARING PROCEDURE

On 5 September 2018 the number of positions still available at the end of the enrolments will be published on www.studenti.unibo.it Starting from that day, and no later than 11 September 2018, all candidates in "Eligible" status placed in the ranking, if interested in clearing procedure, must: 4. connect to www.studenti.unibo.it and authenticate by entering your username and password; 5. express your interest by clicking on the appropriate button, available in the detail of the admission test only after the publication of the ranking list. The list of candidates admitted after the clearing procedure is published on www.studenti.unibo.it on September 14th 2018. PHASE2 – ENROLLMENT From the date of publication of the list, the admitted candidates are required to proceed with the enrollment by 21 September 2018.

B4 – ENROLLMENT:

In order to complete the enrolment process, selected candidates shall by 31 May 2018 (first selection) and 28 August 2018 (second selection),

- Connect to Studenti Online on the website www.studenti.unibo.it, by using the User ID and password received for the on-line application procedure.

- Select “Registration/Immatricolazioni”, then “Second cycle degree programme” and finally “International Relations – Curriculum European affairs or International Affairs or Forecasting, Innovation and Change or International Criminology”

- Fill in the modules with the requested data, print and sign the enrolment form containing the self-certification of the B.A. or the B.Sc. degree. In case of false declarations punished by Art. 496 of the Italian Penal Code, the candidate loses the right to enrol and any related benefits, together with the right to any reimbursement of the payments made.

- Pay the first instalment of the annual tuition fee, or the entire annual tuition feel, according to the methods indicated at www.studenti.unibo.it .

Students who obtained an academic qualification from a non-Italian University shall submit the documents reported on the University website http://www.unibo.it/en/teaching/enrolment-transferand-final-examination : the original degree certificate (or an authenticated copy), specifying all the exams passed and the respective results, issued by the University that awarded the qualification, accompanied by an official translation into Italian, legalization (if due) and the declaration of value (‘dichiarazione di valore’, if due) of the degree, provided by the Italian diplomatic/consulate representative having territorial jurisdiction.

The translation into Italian is not necessary if the qualification and certificates of exams are issued in French, English, German, Spanish. If the translation into Italian is due, students can refer to the Italian

Tribunale di zona (the local court of law) or to the diplomatic authority in Italy of the country where the degree was awarded. Translations into Italian made abroad by local translators have to be certified by the Italian representative having jurisdiction. For EU students and “equiparati” non-EU students with EU equivalent status who graduated from a university in a EU country may replace the official translation, legalization and the declaration of value of non-Italian degrees and the full transcript of all exams with the original Diploma Supplement issued by the University where the degree was obtained and submit it in original to the Student Registry Office together with the legalized qualification. N.B.
