WOW! What a summer! We have a had a jam-packed June and July, but I am beyond thankful for it. VBS, Sports Camp, Pre-Teen Camp, Camp Sonshine, Youth Camp, and other activities have kept our FBCTC youth and kids busy!
This coming Monday, we will close out our big summer activities as our youth head to camp at Pineywoods, and I can’t help but reminisce on the times I attended youth camp. Not only did I meet new friends, stand in line to jump onto the blob countless times, and sing worship songs until we couldn’t keep our eyes open, but I also accepted Christ into my heart at camp.
As a teenager, it seems like life never stops. School starts early in the morning, you either go straight home to start homework or go to some sort of practice; and by the time you are done, it is time for dinner and bed. Looking back now, I don’t know how I ever had the energy to do all of it! In the midst of it all, it can be challenging to be still and focus on God on days other than Wednesdays and Sundays.
Being in a camp environment where you are surrounded by people your own age that “get you,” giving up technology for a week, and having a full schedule of Christ-centered activities is one of the best ways to refocus your mind and heart on Christ. You are able to put everything else on hold and come back home with helpful tools to help you keep your faith strong through the hustle and bustle of the life of a teenager!
As the students and sponsors head off to Pineywoods thiscoming week, I hope you will join with me in praying for them every day. I will be praying that they are able to slow down and spend intentional time with God and other Christ-followers. I will be praying that they meet life-long friends that will help them through their faith journey, that they come back ready to spread what they have learned to their friends that were not at camp, that they have safe travels, and that they have an absolute blast!
