As our year is winding down and most activities are now behind us, I am pleased to say, in my opinion, that it was one of our best years ever. I hope that all members got a lot of enjoyment driving their English cars and participating in some of the great Branch events that were organized throughout the year. The highlight for 2013 was of course, our hosting of the AGM weekend, followed by a record attendance at Brits on the Beach. I would like to thank all members who arranged a car run, especially Marge Sabourin with the BETI run; and to those who represented our Branch at various car shows; organized a social event, or just volunteered their time in helping out with some of our other great events. As this is my last year in office as Chair, I look forward to seeing a new Executive Team take the reins, and lead our Branch into even bigger and better things for the future. I would also like to thank all members on the current Executive who will be retiring at the end of the year, and express my appreciation for their hard work and dedication in the past. I look forward to attending our Annual Christmas Party at the Coast Bastion this year, and trust that as many members as possible will attend this fun evening. ...Malcolm Hargrave, Chair. It was a bit of a gloomy day but we had a good contingent of cars make the trip up to Comox for the Filberg car show. The overall number of cars were down this year but it was still a great event and 2 of our club members placed 1st and 2nd in the judging. There were also a lot of ‘door’ prizes for the rest of us lot and the rain held off enough to make it an enjoyable day. … Jim

We sure were lucky with the weather . After a dull and rainy week we had a glo-rious sunny day for our always popular annual outing to the Lighthouse Fall Country Fair in Qualicum Bay. We had 22 cars registered for the run and show, but in fact 25 showed up on the field. While we were a bit short on public admir-ers for our cars - because our field was somewhat away from the the main fair-ground thoroughfares - our members all seemed to enjoy the fair, especially the french fries! Once again the dancing "cloggers" seemed to be the most popular of the non-stop entertainment acts that were presented at several locations on the fairgrounds. Some of our group finished the day with a Chinese food dinner together. Truly a grand day....Al Thompson

Several members in English cars met at Canadian Tire for the start of the run, which began at 10.15 am. After winding our way through Lantzville, Nanoose Bay and Parks-ville, we stopped at the French Creek Bakery and Café for our rendezvous with other members at 11 am. In all there were 16 cars on the run and our first point of interest was the Hacienda Mexican gift shop, alongside the Texas BBQ area in Arrowsmith. The only rain worth mentioning on the run was around Arrowsmith, but it didn’t last too long or deter a few die-hards who kept their tops down. After spending about ½ hour looking over the neat Mexican imported goods and foods, we headed off to our next destination, which was the Dutch Import shop in Coombs. This was a huge hit and most of the members ended up buying lots of Dutch candies and other interesting items. After we had spent our money and had photos taken, we headed off for lunch at the British Bobby Restaurant in Parksville. The owner had closed the restaurant just for us on the day and he was happy to see 34 of us show up for lunch. The restaurant did a great job in serving us all in reasonable time, and John St.John (owner) told us a short story and gave out 2 gifts for answering his quiz cor-rectly. The point of the run was to identify as many country flags as possible on the run, and to collect a total of 4 miniature flags for each stop. There was also an optional Cana-dian/British Trivia Quiz to answer and that was jointly won by Graeme and Sue Cook and Al Thompson, who both received a $25.00 gift certificate for the British Bobby. Af-ter a lovely meal and great fun we headed back, in the dry, to our homes.
