Starnberg WORKSHOP Pancreas Transplantation
Zertifizierte Weiterbildung als Aufbau zum Walter-Brendel-Kolleg
WELCOME
Under the patronage of the German Academy of Transplant Medicine, it is again my pleasure to invite you to the 10
th Starnberg Workshop Pancreas Transplantation,
again taking place in the unique ambience of the conference hotel “La Villa”.
Since the year 2002, when for the first time 15 active participants in German pancreas transplantation met in La Villa for the Starnberg Workshop, to share the always increasing knowledge in beta cell replacement strategies with the biggest German pancreas transplant programs, pancreas and islet transplantation have undergone an evolution. This has been taken into account in 9 Workshops so far, that evolved to an international significance, since 2009 and 2011, with the 7
th and 8
th Workshop.
In Germany, we celebrate this year an important anniversary: almost exactly 40 years ago, in the Grosshadern Medical Centre of the University of Munich, the first German pancreas transplantation was performed. In the following years, the pioneers of this still rare therapy of beta cell replacement, initially met at the “Spitzingsee” meetings; this workshop interprets itself in their tradition.
After two years since the last workshop, this established meeting is again performed under the sponsorship of the German Academy of Transplant Medicine, celebrating the 40
th anniversary of German pancreas transplantation. In addition, the meeting
can be used as an advanced course for the “Walter-Brendel-Kolleg” for Transplantation Medicine; the latter is serving as the core curriculum for acquiring the newly introduced “Interdisziplinäre Weiterbildung Transplantationsmedizin”, (interdisciplinary continuing education transplant medicine) having been implemented by the 121
st German Medical Assembly, in Erfurt, in May 2018.
In the spirit of the traditional interdisciplinary dialog, this 10th
Starnberg “Jubilee” workshop is scheduled for Corpus Christi and the following Friday.
All participants may have a fruitful and instructive dialog.
Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Helmut Arbogast Conference Chair of the 10
th Starnberg Workshop Pancreas Transplantation
