Alabaster

Architechture has taken advantage of the great power possessed by Alabaster, a material still used today which is found in the quarries of Spain, and some other parts of the world.

Alabaster is a fine grained suabstance, variety of gypsum (calcium sulfate) is a translucent material pure white in color which sometimes containes streaks of white, brown, grey, of black.

It is a material that is heavy and fragile, dark and light, opage and transparent, and when ii is lit it takes on a life of its own, a delicate and luminous life. Alabaster can bew carved into many shapes and sizes to fit the artists desire, the following pages will demonstrate some of them.
