This review game worked well when we had a sizable amount of vocabulary to review before our test. It could work with names of places, people, as well as concepts.
The slides are formatted so that the “clues” appear one letter at a time; students will work as a team to provide the current game player with a possible correct answer. It will always be the choice of the player to choose what they write on the board for their response.
If both teams do not provide the correct answer, let them know they need to try again – the correct answer should always be the last item that spells out on the board (in bold to make it identifiable) – the round does not end until a team writes the correct response AND puts down their pen. Pen-down action lets the teacher know that the student has made their choice…and helps students to consider the details in the instructions to earn the points.
To expand game to more slides, right-click on a game slide in slide organizer pane (on left of screen), choose ‘copy’, move cursor to area at the end of slide sorter list, right click again, choose ‘paste.’ Highlight the existing text in the slide then either type new material to replace existing text or paste new text from another document. Always ‘play’ or ‘preview’ slide when you change text to verify the animation of the text will still be the same for game play (meaning one letter at a time).
Speed of text appearance can be changed by clicking on Animation tab, select Custom Animation, in Custom Animation pane (to right), click on entry so that a drop-down box arrow appears. Click on arrow, then Timing, then Effect tab. Increase or decrease “% delay between letters”.
- Enjoy!
