Week 5 - Term 2, 29th May 2013 Dear Parents, This week’s Newsletter is a mixture of topics which have been the focus of conversations over the last couple of weeks. It is important for our parents to have an understanding of the issues which arise as they impact upon all of our students in some form or another. One of things that the school community and the staff love about our school are the range of activities and experiences which are offered to our children across the course of a school year. Over the next two weeks, our Stage 2 and 3 choirs will have performed at the Coffs Harbor Eisteddfod, as will the Stage 2 and 3 dance group and 2DD in verse speaking. On Monday I had the absolute privilege and pleasure of watching the two Choirs perform at the Racecourse. The performances of both Choirs were amazing with Highly Commended going to Stage 2 and First Place to Stage 3. The Senior Choir were told by the adjudicator that he had never heard a primary school choir of their calibre before. What a huge compliment! Fads come and go in schools. During my primary school days, I hate to admit it, but ‘jacks’ were the thing to play at school. For Term 2 2013, we are talking BeyBlades. Staff have had numerous conversations around this topic and at the present time we have published a list of safety rules which each class has discussed. The rules have been created by the students to ensure that everyone has a common and clear concept of how the games are to be played. In the body of the Newsletter, the rules have been published for your reference. We don’t want the toys banned but safety is a paramount concern. We’ll see how this goes. Another fad which appears to have surfaced at school is that of cough lozenges in the form of lollipops. If students require throat or cough lozenges at school, please send a note in to your child’s teacher. Please do not send lozenges that are made into lollipops. It is a safety issue for students as they move around the school with the small stick in their mouths. School uniform is always a hot topic in schools and is something that KPS always prides itself on. Can I remind parents please that our school uniform is actually black school shoes, joggers excepted for sports days. With many children wearing joggers on normal days, the current trend of fluro is distracting from our uniform code. It would be greatly appreciated if fluro laces could be swapped for back or white. Many thanks to our parents for positively responding to the issues mentioned in today’s news. This is the essence of Kororo. The community and the school working together to solve problems, come up with options and to move forward. Thank you. Week 5 - Term 2, 29th May 2013 Dear Parents,

This week’s Newsletter is a mixture of topics which have been the focus of conversations over the last couple of weeks. It is

important for our parents to have an understanding of the issues which arise as they impact upon all of our students in some form or another.

One of things that the school community and the staff love about our school are the range of activities and experiences which are offered to our children across the course of a school year. Over the next two weeks, our Stage 2 and 3 choirs will

have performed at the Coffs Harbor Eisteddfod, as will the Stage 2 and 3 dance group and 2DD in verse speaking.

On Monday I had the absolute privilege and pleasure of watching the two Choirs perform at the Racecourse. The performances of both Choirs were amazing with Highly Commended going to Stage 2 and First Place to Stage 3. The Senior

Choir were told by the adjudicator that he had never heard a primary school choir of their calibre before. What a huge

compliment!

Fads come and go in schools. During my primary school days, I hate to admit it, but ‘jacks’ were the thing to play at school. For Term 2 2013, we are talking BeyBlades. Staff have had numerous conversations around this topic and at the present

time we have published a list of safety rules which each class has discussed. The rules have been created by the students to

see how this goes.

Another fad which appears to have surfaced at school is that of cough lozenges in the form of lollipops. If students require throat or cough lozenges at school, please send a note in to your child’s teacher. Please do not send lozenges that are made

into lollipops. It is a safety issue for students as they move around the school with the small stick in their mouths.

please that our school uniform is actually black school shoes, joggers excepted for sports days. With many children wearing joggers on normal days, the current trend of fluro is distracting from our uniform code. It would be greatly appreciated if

THIS WEEK’S QUOTE

Community, like a gem, is multifaceted, each facet a mere aspect of a whole that defies description.

DEPUTY’S REPORT: On Monday I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying our Junior and Senior choirs to the Coffs Harbour & District Eisteddfod. As always Kororo kids did their school, their families and themselves very proud. Both choirs performed extremely well with the Junior Choir receiving a Highly Commended and the Senior Choir achieving First Place out of nine local primary schools. The adjudicator made some very encouraging comments that I would like to share with you. Junior Choir “Great use of expression and dynamic contrast. A beautiful opening that carried throughout the entire performance. A very highly developed performance today! Considerable preparation is evident.” Senior Choir “A very delicate but precise performance…..highly polished and extremely enjoyable. Great rhythm! This would be one of the most professional and well-polished choral performances I have seen! A big thank you to the students for giving up their lunch times, for the preparation they put into learning the songs and also for looking so lovely in their school uniforms. Thanks to the families who came along to support us. A very special thank you to Libby McConnell and Margaret England for their dedication to music at Kororo. Thank you also to Mrs Gough for her assistance with the senior choir and to Mrs Campbell for putting together another fabulous Kororo choir. I had a wonderful time working with the senior students and I have to say that this is the first time I have conducted a winning choir. Well done everybody. Carolyn Burns Relieving Deputy
