We make the kind of rods others would make in an ideal world.

We make timeless classics from bamboo and fiberglass and modern

We strive to create the business you would build if you were in our shoes.

We care more about respect from our customers than maximizing

rod sales. We’re concerned less with what makes conglomerate

overlords or hotshot MBA’s happy (we don’t have either). We’re

focused upon finding what thrills you and us as anglers and

contributing daily to this sport we’re all obsessed with.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ON WWW.ITINERANTANGLER.COM

“Presidents have commissioned rods from T&T to

give to heads of state and royalty. There is a business

model for this type of manufacturer - think Bentley

automobiles or Perazzi shotguns. Thomas & Thomas

makes functional pieces of art.”

We make rods for enthusiasts because that’s what we are.

We just don’t have many customers who are occasional fly fishers.

This fact is supported by Field & Stream’s recent report that T&T

ranks number three in terms of the rods used to capture IGFA world

records. You may not find this remarkable – we’ve been making the

world’s finest rods for well over forty years. But consider that we

have only ever sold a comparatively small number of rods per annum

compared to the brands that occupy the positions around us.

Serious anglers seek out serious equipment.

We are proud that, more often than not, their search leads them to

Thomas & Thomas. Prouder still that our warranty registration cards

tell us that once a customer chooses a T&T they go on to purchase

many more (we’re not going to tell you how many because you might

worry our rods are too addictive).

We believe small streams and spring creeks represent the very essence of fly fishing. An up close

and personal experience with native trout evolved to the maximum with anti-predator awareness.

Thomas & Thomas builds small stream rods to deliver precise, delicate presentations at close range.

Rods that cast in a way that you will feel, but the trout won’t – at least until its too late.

Horizon II Medium fast action, the perfect compromise between precision and power.

The Horizon II is considered by many to be the perfect all round trout rod and for this reason there are many anglers who will use nothing else. Utilizing T&T’s exclusive Bi-Angular Fiber Technology (BAFT) results in a blank that simply feels lighter and more responsive than other rods. The Horizon series has been a stalwart of our rod line up for a number of years. With the improvements made for the second generation, now more than ever, these are the small stream rods you will want to grow old together with.

The detail: Dark blue blank, western grip, up-locking black anodized reel seat, bubinga wood spacer.

Helix Medium action for casters that seek maximum feel.

In the lightest line weights the Helix series seems tailor-made for small stream work. The medium action facilitates quick, precise presentations at short range and transmits a comfortable level of ‘feel’ even with a short line. Should the need arise to place a longer cast upstream, you will find the Helix possesses plenty of reserve yet still delivers the fly with satisfying finesse.

The detail: Dark blue blank, western grip, up-locking pewter reel seat, bubinga wood spacer.

We know larger rivers present even larger challenges.

Longer casts, bulkier flies, stronger winds. The performance of you and your

rod will determine how well you overcome them. For rivers, Thomas & Thomas

builds crisper rods for lazer-like accuracy without ever sacrificing the ability to

cushion the connection between light tippets and large fish.

NS 5Fast action trout rod for big water and big fish – no sanctuary.

We’ve been receiving more and more requests for a faster five in a four-piece configuration. Here it is - we’re delighted to deliver the NS 5 (the NS denoting ‘no sanctuary’). Developed in close collaboration with our casting consultant Jonathan Huff, this is a rod for big water and big fish - a rod for the Delaware, the Deerfield and the wider rivers of the West. A rod that takes inspiration from our fast action Vector series, configures it in to four pieces, increases modulus and tensile strength and blasts fast, five weight performance to a whole new level.

some truly inspired new offerings. First let me say that every T&T rod we cast impressed us but our

recommendation is the 9’ 5 wt ‘No Sanctuary’. The first time this rod loaded I thought WOW. This 4

piece feels and casts like a 1 piece. It has the power to cast to the backing and the delicacy you need

for a spring creek. Its the closest thing to perfection I’ve cast.”

SSSMedium fast action for the challenges of anadromous fish.

With two-handed rods seemingly ubiquitous on many famous salmon and steelhead rivers, at times it seems as though single-hander’s have been forgotten. That’s not the case here at T&T. The new SSS rods are designed to offer salmon and steelhead anglers the ultimate balance of sensitivity and fish fighting prowess. These rods are deadly accurate for dry fly work and perfectly capable of lifting a long line off the water as you step and swing flies through holding water in the search for majestic, migratory fish.

Nowhere are the demands on the angler and his

tackle more acute than in saltwater.

Delivering fast, accurate casts to moving targets in

howling winds is often the order of the day. It’s arguably

the most difficult challenge in fly fishing and one that is

dear to Thomas & Thomas’s heart. From our center of

excellence in Islamorada, Florida we develop rods that

edge the odds in favor of the angler. Rods with the power

to deliver the fly, set the hook and fight the fish – ruthless,

uncompromising rods.

TNT

As saltwater anglers we endure a love-hate relationship with the ever-present wind. You know it and we know it – the biggest fish get caught on the windiest days. The new Thomas & Thomas TNT Saltwater Series is designed to ensure that you are equipped to deliver heavy flies in to relentless winds with an unprecedented level of power and accuracy. And if the fish changes course simply pick it up, shoot in to the back cast and lay it back out. This is a rod for advanced casters and die-hards of the flats. If you pray that tomorrow your favorite weather girl calls for clear skies and 20 mph winds then you owe it to yourself to check out the TNT series – pure dynamite.

The detail: Dark red blank, full wells grip, up-locking clear anodized reel seat.

Horizon II Medium fast action, the perfect compromise between precision and power.

Built with T&T’ s exclusive Bi-Angular Fiber Technology (BAFT), the Horizon II Series feels lighter and more responsive than other saltwater fly rods. But the reason Horizon II’s have so many obsessed fans is crystal clear on the first cast. The HII’ s Dual Helical graphite fibers are aligned with lazer accuracy, enhancing the transfer of energy throughout your cast, producing an unmatched level of line feel. Enhanced line feel magnifies the rod load allowing you to intuitively step on the power with split-second timing. Result: tight loops, power, and unmatched distance.

Overhead, Switch, Skagit, Scandi or Spey. Whatever your preferred flavor.

Are two hands really better than one? The answer is definitely – sometimes. Thomas & Thomas has

been at the forefront of North American development in this field since the introduction of our double

handed rods in the 1980’s. Many of the most advanced casters in the world have name-checked T&T as

the best two handed rods around. We design rods for energy efficiency enabling you to cover big water

in search of big fish – the fish of a thousand casts. Long heads or short heads, on top or down deep, we

design rods that allow you to paint the pool one smooth stroke at a time.

SpeyClassic progressive taper, the benchmark against which all other spey rods are judged.

T&T’s Spey Series has a classic progressive taper designed to maximize your Single Spey, Spira l Cast, Double Spey or Circle C. Outstanding for heavy shooting head lines, bulky flies and big water, its smooth crisp action will load fast and shoot far, with enough delicacy to turn over a #8 Stonefly. Whether you’re on the hunt for giant Atlantic salmon on the Kola Peninsula or steelhead on classic North American rivers, elegantly crafted Thomas and Thomas Spey rods exceed the expectations of today’s two handed casters.

The Switch movement continues to gather momentum and as a fly fishing category we can now firmly state that Switch is here to stay. With this in mind we’ve beefed up our Switch series for 2012. Each new model comes in a four-piece configuration and offers a level of feel and versatility that will appeal to trout, steelhead and salmon anglers alike. These rods offer a moderate fast action for effortless single and double handed casting. The culmination of two years of experimentation by T&T rod designer, Tom Dorsey, our prototype models have already found favor among trout nympher’s, summer steelheader’s and in the case of the 11’6” 7 weight, as the perfect rod for Atlantic salmon fishing from the canoe - Canadian style.

Page 16: Thomas and Thomas 2012 Brochure

Thomas & Thomas was founded in 1969 by rod builders, Tom Dorsey and Tom Maxwell.

Their background in bamboo possessed the two Tom’s with a rare and

uncompromising obsession for detail. To their minds, the ‘labor of love’

involved in constructing collector-grade bamboo was too precious to

be tainted by anything but the finest cork, components and finishes to

complete the rod.

The genius of T&T was in upholding the same obsession for detail as they began experimenting with new graphite materials.

Dozens of blanks could be built in the time it took to build one from

bamboo. For many, this meant the ‘plastic’ rods were not worthy

of the same attention in terms of their handles, reel seats, ferrules,

guides and wraps. T&T took the opposite view and raised the bar for

graphite excellence.

Today, this ethos is imprinted upon our DNA.

Every T&T employee is empowered to inspect and reject rods at each stage

of the build process. A speck of dust in the paint and the rod gets rejected

when it arrives to be ferruled. An imperfect ferrule and the rod is rejected

when it arrives to be mounted. Nobody at Thomas & Thomas is paid based

on the quantity they produce, rather everyone is judged on the quality they

put out.

Annually, we make fewer than a hundred bamboo rods, a few hundred glass rods and a few thousand graphite rods.

Our attention to detail is consistent across our entire line. Aesthetically,

our rods are rated as ‘second to none’ by fly fishing enthusiasts around

the world. It’s the Thomas & Thomas ‘Look’ – the look of the rods you’ll

eventually own.

THIS IS OUR STORY

TRUE TO OUR ROOTS – THE T&T ‘LOOK’

Not many companies survive as long as we have by making fine fly rods

in the USA so our history is a special one.

Mixing a storied bamboo workshop with innovative graphite production fascinates

non-conformists. Yes its eccentric, but to the man on the street, so is fly fishing.

Fortunately, kindred spirits seek us out and the Thomas & Thomas legend lives on.

The rods you’ll eventually own

16

Page 17: Thomas and Thomas 2012 Brochure

We take great pride in building rods that are pleasing to the arm as well as the eye.

We build rods that communicate. Rods that prompt you to intuitively

adjust your stroke to produce the perfect cast. We believe it’s not always

about building rods that are faster or lighter or stronger. It’s about building

performance rods that get the job done, time after time.

When it comes to our design philosophy we tell it like it is and try to avoid blinding you with science.

That’s not to say there isn’t any – the quest for fly rod perfection is a

never-ending journey. Tom Dorsey was among the first rod builders to start

experimenting with graphite back in the 1970’s. Today, he remains obsessed

with pushing the boundaries to find new materials and tapers that improve

performance. Dorsey calls it ‘tinkering’ but, in fairness, it takes a lot more

than that to produce rods that feel like the rods you’ll eventually own.
