Thomas’s Early Years
• Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. He grew up in Virginia with six sisters and one brother. He was well educated as a child. He learned many languages and read lots of books.

Thomas’s Political Career• He was a member of the Continental Congress and
wrote the Declaration of Independence.• He served as Virginia’s Governor in 1779• Minister to France in 1785• Secretary of State for Washington in 1790• Vice President in 1796• Elected the 3rd President as a democrat-republican in
1801• Purchased Louisiana Territory in 1803.

Thomas’s Life & Death
• Thomas married Martha Wayles Skelton in 1772. She died in 1782, he never remarried.
• Death July 4th, 1826 – exactly 50 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. John Adams died the same day. They were the last remaining Founding fathers.
