We are writing to inform you about some changes in financial aid. Thomas Jefferson School of Law will no

longer participate in the Title IV Federal loan assistance program (Stafford and Grad PLUS) for its JSM, LLM,

and JSD programs. Students enrolled in these degree programs will instead be able to process private

educational loans from participating loan providers. A comprehensive list of private lenders may be found at

    http://www.finaid.org/loans/privatestudentloans.phtml.1

    How does this affect me?

Beginning with the SUMMER 2015 quarter (next quarter), students who wish to finance their education must

do so with private funds, including a private lender loan. A FAFSA is no longer required. Loan requests are

processed directly with the educational lender. Qualifications for these loans may differ from those of

federally supported loans. If you find that your loan application is declined by two or more of these providers,

please contact our Financial Aid Director, Marc Berman, provide documentation of the denial, and we may be

able to assist you in receiving the financing required.

What happens with my Spring 2015 quarter federal loans?

All currently enrolled JSM, LLM, and JSD students in good academic standing who have approved federal

loans for the SPRING 2015 quarter (the current quarter) will retroactively receive a scholarship equal to the

amount of his or her approved SPRING federal loans. The scholarship is limited to your SPRING 2015

approved federal loan (Stafford and/or Grad PLUS) amount as of todays date.

The financial aid office will take steps to cancel your federally guaranteed loans and ensure that your law

school account is credited with the scholarship amount to cover the tuition payment for the SPRING 2015

    quarter.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

We are happy to assist you with this process and answer any questions you have. If you would like to schedule

a meeting to discuss your personal financing obligations, please call the Financial Aid office at 619.961.4271

or send an email to [email protected].

    Sincerely,

    Jason Fiske

Assistant Dean for Program Development and Distance Education

1 We do not endorse any of these lenders on this list. Further, you do not have to borrow from a lender on this list (or at all) and we will not deny

or otherwise impede on your choice of lender, or otherwise delay certification or processing of any loan you obtain based on your choice of

    lender.
