your media product and why?

• One of the companies that might distribute my media product is Miramax. • The reason Miramax would distribute my media product is that they have

experience distributing films within the Thriller genre. Famous thrillers that this company have distributed include: No Country for Old Men (2007) (A), The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) (B), Run Lola Run, (1998) (C) and Sin City (2005) (D).

• Furthermore, Miramax distributed the majority of Quentin Tarantino’s thrillers. Including: Reservoir Dogs (1992) (E), Pulp Fiction (1994) (F), Jackie Brown (1997) (G), Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) (H) and Kill Bill Vol 2 (2004) (I). This increases the likelihood of Miramax distributing my media product as I have included features similar to an archetypal Tarantino thriller. For example a quote at the start of the film (J) and the use of black and white (K).

• Distribution by Miramax would help my media product as they would reach out to Thriller audiences well. If my media product had some connection to famous thriller directors such as Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers (Ethan and Joel) by sharing the same distributers it would increase the chances fans of the genre would see my film.

• My media product could also be distributed by Film4. Film4 are a distribution company that specialise in the independent British Market. This is perfect for my media product. Furthermore, Film4 have some, not compared to that of Miramax, experience with the distribution of Thrillers. In the past, Film4 have distributed: Limitless (2011) (L), Killing them Softly (2012) (M) and Black Sea (2014) (N). Film4 also re-distributed the iconic 1946 Thriller, Gilda (O) in 2016 and distributed the film dedicated to the life of famous thriller director Alfred Hitchcock - Hitchcock (2012) (P).

• Film4 produces and distributes many films that are aimed at the same age range as my media product (16-18). For example, Inbetweeners 2 (2014) (Q) and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012) (R).

• My Media product could be distributed by Film4 because they specialise in my target audience. Which means viewers of my media product are more likely to go and see it as its distributed by a familiar company - where they know what to expect.

Warp Films• Another company that would be suitable to distribute my thriller would be Warp

Films.

• Warp films, established by the famous record company Warp Records, which would be useful for producing the soundtrack of my thriller, an example of synergy and horizontal integration. It is currently ran by joint CEO’s Mark Herbet and Peter Carlton.

• Warp Films would be suitable for distributing my film as they have past experience of working with films staring young, British actors like Billy (Louis Coles) in runaway. Films such as This is England (2006) (S) and Submarine (2010) (T) star young British boys similar to Runaway. The audience would relate to the characters in all three of these films and having a common denominator of being distributed by Warp Films will help attract fans of these films to mine.

• “This is England” is great example of a film about a young British boy in regular everyday surroundings, much like the plotline of runaway. Audiences who enjoyed “This is England” will be attracted to Runaway due to the similar narrative and shared distributors.

• It is likely that my media product would be exhibited in an independent cinema as opposed to a multiplex. A company called PictureHouse would most likely exhibit my media product because they specialise in independent and arthouse films. PictureHouse is owned by CityScreen which is the leading independent cinema operator in the UK. They have cinemas mainly in city centres and in predominantly university towns such as Norwich, Oxford, Cambridge and York. This is relevant to my media product as this is the age of my target audience - students.

• Furthermore, picture house cinemas screen “a wide range of features spanning art-house, independent, classic….”. In contrast to multiplex cinemas such as Odeon, PictureHouse’s normally show specialised films like my media product (British- independent). The audience of Cinema City in Norwich (a picture house cinema) is normally an arthouse viewer or one that enjoys watching films produced by independent companies/ unknown directors. These are both characteristics of my production so it wouldn’t be out of place showing at CinemaCity. Other examples of films showing these traits include: Shane Meadows’ (director of This is England) Dead Mans Shoes (2004) ( U) and Somers Town (2008) (V), both shown at CinemaCity. The audiences these venues especially cater for are ones that would enjoy my media product.
