    SCHOOL CALENDARS THROUGH MAY 2013

    Erik Jessen is a graphic arts instructor at SOWELA Technical Community College. He has been immersed in the arts since he was five and continues to support and promote Southwest Louisianas artists by teaching graphic arts and volunteering. Jessen continues to involve his students in local projects that will give our community the best first impression. His recent design efforts include graphic work for Riverside Park and assisting in the design and painting of Millennium Park.

    A Lake Charles native, Erik is the co-founder Mixed Media Group, a design firm that supports the marketing and design needs of small businesses. Among his many accomplishments are accreditation as an Adobe Certified Associate and winning Best of Show at the regional Addy Awards the last two years. What he cherishes most though, is his loving familyhis wife Kaela and their two boys Gram and Palmer.

    and is the daughter of Daniel

    Ardoin and Michelle Reinecke.

    A sophomore at McNeese State

    University, Laken is majoring

    in graphic design. Her colorful

    piece is a collage of magazine

    pieces compiled in her art class at

    McNeese; it represents the colors

    of the four seasons.

  • Candice Alexander is one of Southwest Louisianas most celebrated artists. For over 12 years, she has been creating Louisiana inspired art. Her Fleur de lis-Worlds Within Series began in 2007 and has now grown to over 350 original pieces. The inspiration and heart of this particular piece combines the fleur de lis image with a focus on the Louisiana culture.

    discovered his talents for art

    during his 8th grade year at S.J.

    Welsh Middle School. His art

    teacher sparked his creativity and

    taught him the basics of most

    core art forms. Noah found he

    was strong in painting and began

    taking oil painting lessons. The

    Bird is his first oil painting.

    bachelors degree from McNeese

    State University and is pursuing a

    graphic arts degree from Sowela

    Technical Community College.

    Three pieces from her design and

    photography work were selected

    for the 2012 Student Art Show.

    Liz was introduced to painting

    several years ago at a painting

    party and has taken lessons

    since then. She enjoys painting

    angels because of their appeal to

    everyone.
