Women‘s Throw ball Tournament Rules

1. SERVICE ZONE: The service zone is behind the end line and

between the extension of the sidelines.

2. COMPOSITION: Five-person: 5 players on the court per team. The

team must compose of 5 Women. [+2 substitutes (optional)].

3. SCORING SYSTEM

o TO WIN A MATCH: Matches consist of a best of 3 sets. A team wins

a match by winning two sets. In the case of a 1-1 tie, the

deciding set (the 3rd)is played to 15 points with a minimum lead

of 2 points.

o TO WIN A SET: A set (except the deciding, 3rd set) is won by the

team which first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of two

points. In the case of a 24-24 tie, play is continued until a two-

point lead is achieved (26-24; 27-25; ?).

o TO WIN A POINT & RALLY: Whenever a team fails to serve or return

the ball, or commits any other fault, the opposing team wins the

rally and a point. If the serving team wins a rally, it scores a

point and continues to serve. If the receiving team wins a rally,

it scores a point and it must serve next.

4. CATCHING AND THROWING THE BALL

1. Players can catch the ball with both the hands.

2. No Passing of the ball. ie: The one who catches the ball has to

throw the ball over the net.

3. Its a valid catch if during catching the ball, the ball touches

any part of the body and the catcher still manages to catch the

ball.

4. During a catch, only one persons contact with the ball is

allowed.

5. Players can throw the ball with one or both the hands.

6. Players are allowed to jump and throw the ball.

Page 2: Throw ball rules

7. The players have to throw the ball from the same position they

caught the ball (i.e. no turn/rotation). A player cannot take more

than one step when throwing the ball.

8. A player can throw the ball either way ? under arm or over arm.

5. PLAYING THE BALL

o TEAM CONTACTS: Each team is entitled to a maximum of one

(person) contact to return the ball to the opponents. Blocking is

not allowed.

o CHARACTERISTICS OF CONTACT: A player may touch the ball with any

part of the body. A player may have successive contacts with the

ball during a single attempt to make the team's first contact with

the ball, provided that the fingers are not used to direct the

ball.

6. PENETRATION INTO OPPONENT'S PLAYING AREA: Players may partially

or completely cross the center line below the net or outside the

poles, either before, during or after a legal play of the ball,

provided that this does not interfere with the opponent's play.

Incidental contact with an opponent is ignored, unless such

contact interferes with the opponent's opportunity to play the

ball. While opposing players are not required to avoid the ball or

the player, they cannot intentionally interfere with any legal

attempt to play the ball on their court. If a player crosses the

center line and interferes with an opponent during the

continuation of a play, it is a fault.

7. CONTACT WITH THE NET: It is a fault for a player or a player's

clothing to touch any part of the net.

8. CHANGE OF COURTS

o After each set, the teams change courts, with the exception of

the deciding set.

o In the deciding set, once a team reaches 8 points, the teams

change courts without delay.

Page 3: Throw ball rules

o If the change is not made once the leading team reaches 8

points, it will take place as soon as the error is noticed. The

score at the time that the change is made remains the same.

o Participants must know the ?Official Throw ball Rules? and abide

by them.

o Participants must accept referees' decisions with sportsmanlike

conduct, without disputing them.

o In case of doubt, clarification may be requested only through

o Participants must refrain from actions or attitudes aimed at

influencing the decisions of the referees or covering up faults

committed by their team.

o Only the captain of a team may talk to the referee or request
