ADMIN NEWS A great start! Apart from a few technology glitches that saw us without internet access for almost

2 weeks, our school year has started extremely well. As of our Day 8 census, we have 789 students enrolled with 35 classes well underway. Thank you to those of you who attended our Open Night and recent Prep parent reading workshop. Our programs are as busy as ever so keep an eye on our newsletter and website for upcoming school events. School Leaders Tinaroo Camp: It was my pleasure last week to visit our student leaders at their 3 day Leadership Camp at the Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre . The students did a wonderful job of representing both our school and their families as they undertook some of the challenges posed for them as they embark on their first school leadership ex-periences. Well done Ellie Fink, Chase Burns, Kara Trimble and Ben Dayes on an impressive performance at the camp. Thank you also to Mrs Barbara Robin-son who accompanied and supported the students during the camp. Student Safety: Student safety is of paramount importance to us. Please remind your children that if they miss their bus or they are not collected from their designated pick up place, they must report to the office and we will make the necessary phone calls to get them home safely. Lunch-time activities: Classrooms are not the only hives of activity at our school. Lunch time activities are also now in full swing. From Mr Ronnie’s soccer to Mr Tannock’s Friday disco and Miss Loretta’s Art Club, there are plenty of activities for all students to be involved in. Besides these, there are also computer labs open, the new Environmental Committee (run by Miss McBurnie), and many activities -

such as the making of the 8709 special ANZAC commemorative poppies – occurring in the library. These regular events encourage our students to be actively involved in school activities where they can meet other students and join in activities that they might not otherwise be involved in. Parent/Carer Contacts: If you have moved or changed phone numbers over the Christmas break, please ensure that you update your contacts with us so that we can contact you in the event of an emergency. Read, read, read! It was fantastic to see the Reading Café and new Prep Story Time sessions begin again this

week with a very enthusiastic response. Encourag-ing and supporting reading at

school and at home is very important to us and to the success of your children. As your children start bringing home their readers please help us to make reading an enjoyable and rewarding experience by listening to and reading to your children (and enjoying a good book yourself!) on a regular basis.

Another new fridge – yep, the P&C has stepped in once again and purchased a new 500+ litre fridge for one of our Yr 1 classes. We have lost count as to how many fridges the P&C has provided for our classes and students so that they can keep their lunches safe and cool. The fridges are also very handy for those yummy birthday cakes, not to mention those odd things that our teachers keep in there at times (e.g. for science activties). New musical instruments – Kristy Braes, our musical instrument teacher will be happy! The P&C will meet the funding shortfall to purchase new musical instruments so our students can have brand new musical instruments at school. New president – yes, we are looking for a new P&C president at the next AGM on 17 March. We have all the other Executive. positions secured for 2015 (Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President), but we have not found anyone for the president’s role. If you feel that you are able to take on this wonderfully rewarding task, or know someone who might, please drop us a line (0498937037) or send us an email. We desperately need to fill this position at the upcoming AGM.

Until the next issue of P&C Matters,

Here’s working together for our kids, Peter, Marita, Jen and Sherri. [email protected]

GENEROUS DONATION Our P&C have been fortunate enough to receive a very generous donation from year 3 student; Yasmin Dennis. Over the Christmas holidays Yasmin purchased a raffle ticket in the Bendigo Bank’s Christmas raffle and became the lucky winner of $500 cash for herself and a $500 cheque to donate to her preferred local organisation; the
