What is regrouping and
grouping in short
multiplication?
In the case of short written multiplication when you multiply one place value column and the answer is
becomes a two-digit answer, the ones stay in the place value column of the column you are answering whilst
the tens that does not fit into the place value column is regrouped into the next place value column.

To be able to develop an understanding of the history of music and the
one of the greatest composers, Florence Price.
Listen with attention to detail to a musical piece and produce a
creative response following the ‘virtual school trip’ by composing your
own piece of performance inspired by body percussion.
Who is Florence price?
Florence Price was born in 1887 and died in 1953. Price was an African-American women who combined traditional classical music
with the spiritual sounds of West African rhythms and dances from her own culture.
In 1933 she overcame prejudice by becoming the first black female composer to have her work performed by a major orchestra.
TASK 1:
Use the following documents attached, to find some interesting facts about Florence Price and create a poster about this famous musician. Think about
what the ‘Juba Dance’ is and why this was used as a form of music when Price’s music was being performed.

Today we are going on a virtual school trip to listen to a
performance of Price’s piece, by the BBC Scottish Symphony

Task 2: after visiting the ‘virtual’ performance of Price’s piece I would like you to listen to the piece again and
create a story board of a story that comes into your mind when listening to this performance. Your story board
can consist of a grid with four or six squares.
Make sure to draw pictures to demonstrate what is happening in each picture but also write a small description
of who the characters are and what is going on in each picture.

Body percussion ostinatos
Body percussion involves gently striking the body to produce various types of
sounds.
An ostinato is a short rhythmic or melodic pattern that is repeated throughout
a song or performance to add layering to the performance.

Remember one sound made by the body is one beat/pulseFor example,
Clap = 1 beat
Stomping left feet = 1 beat
Stomping left foot first and then right foot = 2 beat
A pulse is a steady beat like a ticking clock or your heart beat.
Rhythm is the pattern of a long and short sound as you move through the song/
Try and create your own rhythm to repeat and perform alongside Price’s performance.
Remember you can use different body percussions to create a number of pulses/beats and
form a rhythm. Use the grid below to draw a picture of the types of body percussions you
will use to create a rhythm. For example you might write ‘clap’ in box number one and
then write ‘clicking fingers’ in box number two. Once you have completed your grid you
may want to draw pictures to help better remember your beat.
