GAME #39 THURSDAY JULY 30, 2009 YUBA-SUTTER GOLD SOX (26-12, 24-11) vs. HUMBOLDT CRABS (38-10, 23-10) 7:00 PM at ALL SEASONS RV STADIUM TONIGHT’S PITCHING MATCHUP: Gold Sox: RHP Cris Rogers (6-1, 3.28 ERA) vs. Crabs: RHP Gene Escat (3-0, 3.47) SOX SWEEP HORNS WITH LONGBALL: Deven Braden did it again. After a grand slam homer Saturday night, Braden hit a 2-run home run and bases-loaded triple Sunday, leading the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox to an 8-1 win over the Norcal Longhorns. It's just the second time this year the Sox have swept a 4-game weekend series. Andy Hebrard (2-0) got the win, allowing only 4 hits in 8 innings. Jeff Fisher-Gasper worked a scoreless ninth. ABOUT THE CRABS: They are in their 65 th season, and claim they are the oldest continuously operated summer collegiate baseball program. The Crabs have joined a league this year—the West Coast League Tri-State. Jon Wilhite, who was injured in the car crash that killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, is a former Crab. So is former Yuba City HS player Richard Cates. GOLD SOX vs. CRABS ALL TIME: The rivalry was born in 2006, when the teams split 2 games in Marysville. In '07, the Gold Sox swept 4 games from Humboldt, including a DH in Arcata 6-0 and 4-0, with Anthony Bass and Grayson Adams each throwing 2-hit shutouts in 7- inning games. The Crabs got revenge last year, winning both games. The Sox are 5-3 all time. HORIZON AIR SUMMER SERIES: Congratulations to the Lodi Baseball Club and Novato Knicks, winners of the Engelken and Bavasi Divisions. In the McCullough Division, a Seattle win or Yuba-Sutter loss tonight would eliminate the Gold Sox. The Studs lead San Luis Obispo by 2 games, and the Crabs are still in it, 4½ games back. Bend has been eliminated. TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: “$2 Thursday” and “Dean Martin Remembrance Night”. General admission seats, drinks, and hot dogs are 2 bucks, and a Deano look-alike contest! GOLD SOX NEWS: Congratulations to former Gold Sox 1B/OF Tommy Everidge. He made his major league debut with the Oakland A's Tuesday night in Boston, and doubled in the ninth inning. Everidge was the team MVP in 2003, and batted .350 in 55 games in 2003 and '04. DID YOU KNOW? On Sunday, Deven Braden became the third player in Gold Sox collegiate history to homer in back-to-back games (Doug Thennis in 2005, and Caleb Cooper in '03).
