RFL·2015

St. Claire RegionalRelay For Life started off with the survivor lap around MSU’s Laughlin Health Building. Many of the survivors that walked the survivor lap were patients of St. Claire Regional. The night consisted of fun games, food, Zumba and the luminaire lighting ceremony in memory of a loved one or friend who has been affected by cancer.

St. Claire Regional’s Team Hope was supported by staff, family and friends of SCR. Fresh watermelon and cold water was handed out throughout the night from the SCR table while team members participated in the events and games. SCR’s Team Hope raised $2,500. SCR Family Medicine Morehead raised $900 selling hotdogs and raffling off a kiddie pool full of summer fun items during the night of relay.

A “Pause for Applause” staff recognition event was held on May 20th to recognize the efforts of Raymond Steagall, Brent Barnette and Chris Howell during the flooding that occurred on April 3rd. Phelan Bailey, Director of Emergency Services, had this to say about the events of that night:

“The ambulance bay was flooding tonight and we were just 10-15 minutes away from the ED taking on water. Raymond Steagall was one of the first to arrive after we notified security/maintenance. He shows up in street clothes and ran straight into the middle of the flooded ambulance bay to look for the drain so he can clear it. After he found the drain and began to clear it, other maintenance workers (Chris Howell, Brent Barnette) arrived and got rakes, at which point they were able to keep the drains cleared and the water receded.”

There truly are angels among us and they showed up just in time to save the ED from flood waters that would have undoubtedly been costly, and time consuming to clean up, not to mention the inconvenience to patients and staff.

St. Claire Regional extends its thanks to these individuals for going above and beyond their call of duty for the good of our facility and our patients.
