The Best & Brightest Advisory Board gives advice to the Associations on all marketing and production thatoccur during the planning of the program. The Advisory Board has a dual role: an internal role to assist in andadvise on the developments of the program, and an external role to liaise their respective organizations and thecommunity. The Advisory Board does not have a role in the analysis and selection process.

Defined Roles of the Advisory Board

The Best and Brightest In Wellness® assessment was created and administered by SynBella. The process isreviewed to ensure all criteria is adhered to. There are four separate pools for scoring that include:

• Corporations• Wellness Providers• Schools• Faith-Based Organizations

Each submission received is scored by a selection committee of cutting edge leaders in the health and wellnessfield. Modern statistical analysis is used to examine each application.

• Organizations are nominated.• The company’s wellness coordinator is required to complete an extensive survey on workplace wellness initiatives.

• Each survey is examined statistically for quantitative and qualitative data. All applications are examined on a point system; those receiving the highest points in all categories are selected as the winners.

• Organizations are provided a Basic Assessment with feedback for each category based on their survey results.

• Organizations are announced as winners and honored at the awards celebration.• Elite Award Winners are announced at the symposium.• Winners are highlighted in a media campaign with the event media partner – Corp! Magazine.

Awards Presentation Master of CeremoniesTom Jordan, WWJ Newsradio 950Tom Jordan, a three-time Emmy award winning journalist, co-anchors the morning news withRoberta Jasina on Michigan’s only all-news radio station, WWJ Newsradio 950, weekday mornings from 5 to 10 a.m. Tom also anchors and reports a weekday segment, “Eye on Detroit”on CBS 62 in Detroit.

Jordan moved to Detroit from San Diego, Calif., in March, 2013, where he was a TV newsanchor and reporter at KUSI News. He previously worked in Los Angeles, Palm Springs, andWashington state.

He has covered some of the nation’s biggest stories, including multiple presidential campaigns; the October2007 Southern California Wildfires; breaking news coverage on the death of former president Gerald Ford; the2002 Winter Olympics; and the downturn in the U.S. economy.

He co-anchored two Emmy award-winning newscasts for coverage of the September 11th terrorist attacks andthe subsequent invasion of Afghanistan. He was also awarded an Emmy for best coverage of the 2007 wildfires.

Keynote AddressPeter Nielsen, Peter’s PrinciplesGrowing up in Brooklyn, New York, Peter was surrounded by an Italian family that lovedto cook Italian pastas, desserts and foods that had excessive amounts of unhealthy fats, but at the age of 15, Nielsen was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and weighed a mere86 pounds. Very little was known about Crohn's Disease in 1977 and even doctors wereat a loss to tell his family how to fend off the crippling attacks of abdominal pain andbleeding, not to mention malnutrition and all of the other ailments caused by poor nutrient absorption. Nielsen was weakened by surgery and the disease, discouraged byhis prognosis, and to top it all off he was overwhelmed-especially considering all of the

usual obstacles teenagers have to face. The writing on the wall seemed to say that Nielsen’s life was going tobe a limited one. Yet, he astonished his family, friends and doctors.

A pivotal period of soul searching revealed truths to Peter that transformed his attitude toward his health, hisbody and especially his life. This is the foundation of Nielsen's message of health, fitness and personal powerthat audiences have come to crave. Understanding physical, mental and daily life challenges, Peter is able toconnect with people on every level and his personal triumphs motivate even the most non motivated person.Nielsen studied nutrition and exercise: he worked with his doctors to create an overall package of health andfitness that became a lifestyle.
