The Compound-Complex Sentence

A compound-complex sentence contains two or more independent clauses and at least one dependent (subordinate) clause.

Turn to an elbow partner. Based on the definition try to construct a compound-complex sentence.

Pair up with an elbow partner:

1. Think of a theme or event as inspiration for your writing.

2. Create one simple sentence that is one independent clause with a subject and verb.

3. Now create a second independent clause and connect it to the first with a coordinating conjunction.

4. Finally add a dependent (subordinate) clause connected with a subordinating conjunction.
