Due to COVID-19, some services may have changed. Please contact us or visit ThurstonVotes.org for in person hours and locations.

In each race, you may vote for any one candidate listed. The two candidates who receive the most votes in the August Primary will advance to the November General Election.

Each candidate for partisan office may state a political party that he or she prefers. A candidate’s preference does not imply that the candidate is nominated or endorsed by the party, or that the party approves of or associates with that candidate.

Dear voters,

With the lingering risk of COVID-19 facing our community, I want to share how we continue to provide services while protecting customers, employees and public health. All our services including voter registration, auto licensing, document recording, and finance are being handled remotely.

We are fortunate in Washington to have our vote-by-mail system. It’s a model for conducting elections, and it’s never been more evident than during a pandemic. Vote-by-mail protects voters by allowing ballots to be voted in the comfort of your home. Ballots can be dropped in a ballot drop box or any mailbox without adding a stamp. It should be adopted everywhere.

To ensure voter and staff safety we are moving our Voting Center to South Puget Sound Community College, Mottman Campus beginning 20 days prior to the primary and general elections. By moving voter services to SPSCC, we can provide drive-through services and better protect the public and staff. We will ensure we have great signage to the Student Union building and our campus drop box. We’ll be providing more information on our website and social media sites soon.

But vote-by-mail comes with its own challenges in a pandemic. Teams of election workers usually sit at crowded tables at our Ballot Processing Center, well within the six-foot social distance needed.

This is changing. We reduced risk for people processing ballots by installing plexiglass dividers, and by providing gloves and masks.

We will spread staff out to social distance by doubling the number of inspection shifts. This will allow us to have half the staff in the building.

Even during the March Presidential Primary, we had taken steps to protect our election workers by providing gloves and sanitization supplies.

We are working hard to balance voter access with employee and public health. Thankfully, because of our vote-by-mail system, we are ahead of the game. I want to ensure you that my top priority is communicating to you any changes to our elections. I encourage you to like our Facebook page and/or follow us on Twitter. You’ll receive the latest updates and other interesting information through these channels.

If you have questions or need more information, contact our office at 360.786.5408or [email protected]

Please social distance and wear a mask.

Respectfully,

Mary Hall Thurston County Auditor
