General Information of a Space

The general information of a space contains the following: Data in Memory, Persistence, Replication,Timeouts, Query, Locks, Field Definition, and Key Definition.

Data in Memory

The Data in Memory header contains the following information:

● Distribution Policy: The type of distributed policy. Select one of the following types of policies:

— DISTRIBUTED: Storage of entries is distributed amongst the seeder members of the space. Theentries are distributed uniformly according to the values of the primary key fields.

— NON-DISTRIBUTED: Storage of entries is assigned to a single seeder member of the Space.● Min Seeder Count: The minimum seeder count. The default is 1 that means at least one seeder

member must be assigned for storing the entries.● Time to live: The Time to Live (TTL) is specified in milliseconds. It represents the lifetime of each

entry created in the space. If TTL is set in the space definition, each entry is automatically deletedfrom the space when it expires. The default is -1 which means the entries never expire by default.

● Capacity: Every seeder member can specify the maximum number of entries to be stored per seedermember. On reaching the capacity, further insertion of an entry into the space by a Put operationresults in an exception. If Eviction policy is set, the member evicts another stored entry based on theEviction Policy set.

● Eviction Policy: The following are the two types of Eviction policies:

— None: This is the default. If the capacity of a seeder exceeds, the seeder throws an exception onthe space operation.

— LRU: On reaching the maximum capacity, the seeder evicts entries using the 'Least RecentlyUsed' algorithm to make room for new entries being inserted in the space.

Persistence

The Persistence header contains the following information:

● Type: The types of persistence. It is either SHARED_NOTHING or SHARED_ALL.● Persist Policy: Specifies the type of persistence policy. It is either asynchronous or synchronous. The

default is asynchronous.● Sync Interval: The synchronization interval. This is available only for SHARED_NOTHING persistence

policy. The file synchronization interval for the SHARED_NOTHING persistence file reside on eachseeder member.

Replication

The Replication header contains the following information:

● Rep Count: The number of replicas to be maintained. The default is 0 to indicate that no replicas aremaintained except for the original copy.

Timeouts

The Timeouts header contains the following information:

● Space Wait: The interval in milliseconds. Specifies the amount of time space operations wait until aspace becomes READY. For example, a space is not READY when there is no seeder or there areinsufficient number of seeders as specified by the minimum number of seeder count.

37

TIBCO ActiveSpaces® Monitoring and Management Console Guide

Page 38: TIBCO ActiveSpaces Monitoring and Management Console …...Monitoring and Management Console Guide Software Release 2.2 May 2016 Two-Second Advantage ® Important Information SOME

● Read Timeout: The interval in milliseconds for a Read operation to timeout. The default is 60000ms.

● Write Timeout: The interval in milliseconds for a Write operation to timeout. The default is 60000ms.

Query

The Query header contains the following information:

● Query Limit: The maximum number of entries to return on executing a query using the spacebrowser. The default is 10000.

● Query Timeout: The interval in milliseconds for a query to timeout. The default is 60000 ms.

Locks

The Locks header contains the following information:

● Time to live: The time in milliseconds until a lock is automatically cleared. The default of -1 is usedto indicate that a lock never expires.

● Wait timeout: Time in milliseconds to wait for the lock to be cleared if the entry is currently locked. The default is -1 to indicate that the lock operation waits forever to acquire the lock.

● Lock Scope: The scope of a lock. By default, it is the THREAD scope. It can be either of the following:

— THREAD: Only the processing thread can unlock the key that was previously locked.

— PROCESS: Any processing thread in the process can unlock the key that was previously locked.

Field Definition

The Field Definition lists all the fields defined for the space.

Key Definition

The Key Definition lists all the fields defined for the space. The Index type can be a HASH or a TREE.

A space browser is contextual and is available as a menu option on every space defined for theassociated metaspace visible in the UI. When you select the Space Query option, the query builder isdisplayed on the right most pane of the page.

Space Query Menu Option

Query Builder

The Query builder is to the top-right corner of the page. The space browser gives you two ways ofconstructing a space query. You can use Custom Filter or Filter Builder to create your queries. TheCustom Filter option is used to type in the query filter expression directly. The Filter Builder option is

an UI that helps you build your query filter expression. The icon is used to edit the query and the icon is used to execute the query.

The Query Builder is Displayed on the Right Pane

Query Result

When you execute the query, the results are published under the Query Result pane. By default, theQuery Result pane shows 10 entries and can span multiple pages. You can see up to a maximum of 100entries per page. You can use the Previous and Next buttons to traverse through the query results. The

Sorting Queries in BrowsersActiveSpaces provides the ability to sort queries that are made using browsers. The sorting feature isimplemented in the filter that is used for specifying a browser query. The filter can now use order bystatements.

The order by clause is a part of the filter. It is similar to the method used with SQL. There is no changein the API.

The following are examples of order by statements in filters:

● order by key

● id < 100 order by id

● id = 5 and key < 100 order by key

● id < 10 order by id, key

Note the following points:

Syntax

<query> order by <field1>, <field2>, . . . needs to be added to the end of the filter.

There is no limit on the number of fields you can have.

Requirements

A TREE index with fields is used in the order bysection. The index can be a, b, c and where the orderby is performed on a, b.

If the index has more than one field and order by is executed only on one field, the sorting will workonly if the field name is the first entry in the index.

CURRENT time scope.

If the order by cannot be satisfied due to requirements 1 or 2 as stated above, then an exception isthrown.

54

TIBCO ActiveSpaces® Monitoring and Management Console Guide

Page 55: TIBCO ActiveSpaces Monitoring and Management Console …...Monitoring and Management Console Guide Software Release 2.2 May 2016 Two-Second Advantage ® Important Information SOME

Change in Behavior

Index selection for queries is dictated by the use of order by in the filter. The use of order by in aquery filter can override the indices that would normally be used by the query.

Consider the following query:

key<10 order by id

If the user has an index on “key” and another index on “id,” ActiveSpaces will pick the index on “id”over the index on “key” and perform a table scan to validate “key<10."
