A Note To You:
pring is finally here after a long, cold and snowy winter. The
rees are budding. The flowers are blooming. The birds are
hirping and building nests. The grass is growing rich and green.O Joy) The spring brings a new and special perspective to eve-
ything. My thoughts go to spring revivals in the association
hurches. The question: What is revival?Richard W. DeHaan says in his book,How To Have A Revival!
Thefirst thing we should do is clarify what we mean when we
peak about revival. Some Christians think of it as a series of
pecial meetings intended to winsouls to Christ.Iam convinced, owever, that that isnot revival! We should be zealous in the
work of evangelism, of course. Weshould be burdened for those
who are lost in sin. And we should be active, through our
ersonal witness and in endeavors with other believers, inworkingto lead lost souls to Christ. That is evangelism - but it is
ot revival!Let me compare evangelism with revival.
Evangelismrelates to the unsaved; revival relates to those who
re born again. Evangelisminvolves the giving of life to those
who are dead in sin; revival involves aspiritual awakening of
hose who are alive in Christ. When we. speak ofrevival, herefore, we have in mind that special season of refreshing
when manybelievers simultaneously experience a deep, Holy
pirit conviction of sin.It results in their confession and
enunciation of sin (sometimespublicly). It culminates in aenewal of their dedication to the Lord. And. thewhole
xperience often bears fruit in the salvation of sinners. John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to for-
ive us oursins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. My prayer is that each of us might experience a spiritual renewal
his spring..
Yours in Christ,
Bro. John
