W ell Peace Family - summer is finally here! During the West Michigan season of camping, campfires, cook-outs, and coages we know that we do as much as we can over the summer with friends and families. I want to clue you in on something your church family is doing this summer. From June 7 through September 6 we are going to be doing an in-depth walkthrough of the entire New Testament book of Ephesians. Ephesians is not so much a “book,” but it’s rather a leer from St. Paul to the people of the church in Ephesus. Our series will have an unique focus that actually comes from the final words of this leer. The title of this series is Love Incorruptible. The final verse of JUNE 2015 Ephesians reads, “Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.” True love, the love we read about in Scripture is not tossed about by cultural opinion, nor is it so relativistic that it has no mass appeal. No, love that we read about in the Bible does not deteriorate or die, it does not change, nor can it be corrupted. This is the type of love we are all called to present to the world as we live out our Christian walk. This study is going to be one you will want to get out of bed for! Ephesians is packed with so much: it deals with the insurmountable doctrine of Grace, the hope of adoption, the beauty of God’s structure for family. It reveals profound prayers and it deals with the ever-intriguing topic of spiritual warfare. Please, bring your Bibles, open them, underline and take notes as the leer of Ephesians will reveal a truth that will challenge, convict and comfort all of us to present to the world: Love Incorruptible. JIM BOWERMAN

Hello Peace Church family! My family and I have been attending for over a year and a half now and have found our church home among you. Even if we have not met yet, thank you! Our short time here has ushered in healing, comfort, grace, conviction, blessed fellowship and great community. My wife, Mandy, and I are volunteer leaders in Peace’s student ministries (high school) and recently became members and had our children baptized.

Mandy and I are proud parents to our lovable and vibrant son, Jameson (three-years-old) and our brand new, precious daughter, Lillie. Mandy and I grew up in Middleville and have been together since our early teenage years and we would not trade our story and journey for anything. We now reside in Caledonia.

I have a BFA in Design and Communications from Kendall College of Art and Design and have been blessed to use my skills for Kingdom work for almost 10 years. Along with my wife, we have served in various capacities in the local church for most of our lives.

I am honored and excited to be on staff at Peace Church as the Communications Director. I have a love and passion for clear communications that birth hospitality, serve a greater purpose than myself and help advance the Gospel. I am a typography snob and music connoisseur; if you don’t use Comic Sans or Papyrus and have great taste in music, then we will hit it off just fine (only kidding … sort of). I look forward to being part of what God is doing in and through Peace Church!

BROOKE HOLMES

I am the new Family Ministries Administrative Assistant and am excited to be working in family ministries. I have always loved Peace church and the people here. I have two beautiful children; Ben, who is 3 and Naomi, who is 2 months. I have a passion for relationships and encouraging specifically young women in their walks with the Lord. I moved back from Billings, MT about a year ago and love being back in this beautiful and green state of Michigan. I love singing, walking and being a mommy.

DARREN VANMEEKEREN

We are excited to announce the hire of a part-time Coordinator of Student Ministries, Darren VanMeekeren. Darren is a member of the Air National Guard and a youth ministries major at Kuyper College. He has served in youth ministry for years, been on staff in the local church and as a leader of leaders at Miracle Camp and Retreat Center in Lawton, MI. Darren possesses a passion for student ministries, an ability to connect well with students and a proven ability to assist Pastor Ryan Kimmel in the day-to-day demands of overseeing a rapidly expanding student ministry.

In Matthew 28:18-19, Jesus gives his church a mission. People who follow Jesus are charged to worship Christ by going and reproducing more worshipers of Christ! This is a principle that we are fiercely committed to at Peace Church. We are called to be a family of believers that equips God’s people fore the ministry of reproduction! One of the ways that we actively pursue this vision for ministry at Peace is by welcoming Pastoral Interns into our Church Family - giving men who are pursing a theological education for pastoral ministry opportunities for learning and leadership with the hope that our faith family would have the privilege of sending out these pastors to lead and equip other church communities to know Christ, grow in Christ, worship Christ, serve Christ and share Christ.

With this in mind, Peace Church has the bittersweet privilege of saying goodbye to two of our pastoral interns. Bitter because these are men who we love, whose families we cherish and who’s ministry has been greatly used by God at Peace Church. These families will be greatly missed. Sweet because we have had the opportunity to shape, invest in and cultivate leaders who will influence and equip even more disciples of Christ in other worshiping communities.

The first intern we are saying goodbye to is Josh Allen. We are so thankful for the work that Josh has done in the Junior High and Bold Boys ministries. As he and his wife, Charity, pursue other opportunities for learning and ministry, we pray that God will bless their family and cause their work in the Kingdom to bear much fruit.

The second intern we have the privilege of sending out to further ministry is Jon Delger. Jon and his wife, Stephanie, have been a part of the Peace Church family for many years. It has been such a joy to see this couple ,who both grew up as a part of our faith-family, grow into a family committed to following God’s call on their lives to minister to God’s church. As Jon has studied in seminary and engaged in ministry as an intern at Peace, we have had the delight of watching him grow in wisdom, maturity, skill and passion. We have reaped the benefits of his leadership in the Young Adult ministry, his skillful teaching, his solid preaching and so much more. Now, as we send out Jon, Stephanie, and little baby Bailey, we commission them as proud family members and eagerly anticipate watching their ministry from afar. We pray that God will bless their ministry with gospel fruit and cause their family to prosper as they build their lives on the firm foundation of Christ and His word!

PATIO PROJECT OUTSIDE STONE ROOM:This summer, we are planning to build a roofed patio outside of the Stone Room!

We are planning on erecting it in one Saturday with project engineer and carpenter Brandyn Deckinga and five other volunteers. Ron Bunning roofing will do the shingles.

The patio will have a picnic table on the North End. The project will stop the leaking that occurs after each rain storm.

Some money has been pledged. However, $2,500 is still needed. If you would like to donate, mark an envelope with “Patio Project” and place in the offering plate.

For more information or to volunteer your help, contact Ernie DeGroote at 269.945.9233.

Nothing spells summer like VBS (Vacation Bible School)! The past two years have proven to

be a great ministry tool not only to our church, but to our community as well. Last year’s VBS saw 10% more kids come through our doors than the previous year, bringing our total amount of kids to over 150! Also, of all the kids who came to VBS in 2014, 50% came from non-church going families! This is a great outreach ministry and a great opportunity for you and your family to be involved.

Because of the great growth and amazing ministry we’ve seen in recent years with VBS, we are

VBS

excited about what God is going to do through it this year. The theme is Everest: Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power. We’ll do a specific focus on God’s power as displayed through the prophet Elijah. The children’s crew is anticipating a big year for VBS so we will be needing all hands on deck to help support this initiative.

VBS is happening Monday, July 6 through Monday, July 10, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for children 3-years -old through 4th grade.

Our normal week of VBS from now on will be the week following the 4th of July, but before the Barry County Fair.

We are currently taking volunteer applications at the VBS display in the foyer. As soon as we know we are fully staffed to run this awesome program, we will open registration for children wanting to participate. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Hess at 616.891.8119 or [email protected]

SHARING AND EXPERIENCING THE GOSPEL IN OTHER AREAS:

Last summer, the High School Ministry took their first mission trip in 5 years. We headed down to Appalachia Reach Out (ARO) during the hot summer days of July 2014. Our teens not only got a chance to serve the Lord and spread his message by serving others and making new friends in Inez, Kentucky, but they also got to see how God is at work in different regions of our nation. While Appalachia is, no doubt, American, it also offers our West Michigan teens a chance to engage with others outside their

own culture and cultural norms. Having a chance to get outside West Michigan to both show and experience the love of Christ is absolutely paramount to their discipleship process. Because of all this, and the incredible response the students had by finding a new love for missions, we are expanding our mission experiences this summer. Check out the ministries and locations that our students and young adults will be experiencing this summer:

High School Mission Trip is headed to the Deep South of Hattiesburg, Mississippi to work in the community alongside of Hattiesburg Community Church and Pastor Ed Philips. This trip will be a mix of service projects for low- income and at-risk families, as well as some personal evangelism within the community. This is going to be a spectacular experience. The trip is planned for the last full week of June.

Young Adults are heading to Christ’s Outreach for the Blind. Down in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, our young adults will help this 900-acre camp, located in deep Appalachia, continue to fulfill its mission of providing outdoor hunting experiences to blind and disabled children and young adults as a means to share the gospel with them! With 900 acres, there is always plenty of need! The trip is planned for the last full week of June as well.

Our summer mission trips are open to these participants based on what ministry areas they will be involved in come the fall. If you are interested in supporting either of these mission trip endeavors, please contact Pastor Ryan Kimmel at [email protected]. This is a such an important part of our next generation’s discipleship formation, so prayers are appreciated.

Jr. High Summer Events: Reminder, these events are open to students in 7th and 8th grade for the 2015-16 school year. On June 27 we’re having a morning meet-up at the Omelette Shoppe. Contact Kyle at [email protected] for more information. Then on July 11 from 2:00–4:00 PM we’re having water volleyball at Ray VandenToorn’s home on Gun Lake

PEACE MISSION TRIPS 2015

(10727 Gun Lake Road, Middleville, MI 49333). Lastly, August 20, we will spend a full day at the dake at Ray’s. More information on all of this to come!

High School Summer Bash’s are on Sunday’s from 6:00–8:00 PM and include dinner, fun and hanging out! These events are open to high school students for the

2015-16 school year. The first one is June 14 at Micah Rodriguez’s home. June 28 at Josiah Schmid’s house. July 14 will be at Peace Church. July 26 we’ll be back at the Rodriguez home. On August 9 the party will be hosted by Anna Lynn and her family. Finally, we’ll conclude the Summer events on August 23 with an All-Church Worship Night at Peace Church!

Women’sMinistry

Girl’s Night Out was held March 6. Our theme for the night was Pinterest & Testimony. It was a great opportunity to have women at Peace Church connect with each other for encouragement, fun and fellowship. One woman gave a personal testimony how God showed himself faithful during a very difficult time in her life. She also shared how blessed she is to be a part of Peace and to have the opportunity to attend the True Woman Conference this past fall. Women from our church who attended have kept her accountable and she has reaped the benefits. The rest of the night we made Pinterest crafts and munched on Pinterest recipes. It was a fun night and a chance to connect with the women of Peace in a way that is hard to do on a Sunday morning. A big thank you to all who helped plan it and to all those who cut wood, sewed and made food!

DEACON ADOPTION GRANT:

It doesn’t take someone to attend Peace very long before they realize a major heartbeat of our church is the cause of life. In addition to our partnership with ministries and organizations like The Pregnancy Resource Center and The Walk for Life, I am very happy to announce a new step in our ability to be more effective in the world when it comes to the cause of life. Peace Church now has an Adoption Grant that we are making available to our church family to aid the ever-increasing cost of adoption both nationally and internationally. The Dea-cons have been working the past couple of months on researching methods about how we can better help con-tribute to the financial de-mands of adoption. Contact the church office if you are in need of an application or have any questions. We pray this Adoption Grant will spur more of our church family to investigate, and be open to, the possibilities and blessings of adopting!

Women’s Bible Study:We are excited to start reading Unglued by Lisa Terkeurst together. Ladies, join us for a six-session bible study, where women are taught how to process emotions and resolve conflicts in ways that lead to a much more peaceful and satisfying life. We will meet every other Tuesday from 7:00–9:00 PM beginning June 9. Sign up in the foyer or contact Jenn Jager for more information.

The Women’s Ministry Team will be hosting 3 dates this summer ( June 10, July 15 & August 12) for all women of Peace to come & fellowship at the park. This is for any women to attend. Please invite your friend or neighbors to connect & make new friendships. Bring the kids & grandchildren and enjoy some fellowship while they play. We will meet from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM & provide pizza & drinks at lunch time. Hope to see many of you there!

We have some great new summer reading in the library. We have received a gift to the library which

has enabled me to purchase some additional material for you to enjoy and I really hope you will take advantage of some of the fine books and DVD’s we have.

In fiction: “Footsteps,” by DiAnn Mills is a book set in current times, about a young mother whose two young children disappear from a mall and it looks like a case of parental kidnapping. This book takes a few unusual twists that will keep you turning the pages. Davis Bunn’s book, “The Great Divide” is a book about a lawyer whose life has been devastated and is drawn to take on the case of a missing girl in China who was investigating the labor and civil laws there. We have books with state names of various states and now there is one titled “Michigan” by Gail Martin. It is broken into four parts and each is a story about people of Michigan. Last fiction is called “The Reason,” by William Sirls. It involves a blind minister and

LIBRARY NEWS

a little boy struggling with cancer. They are all challenged to believe in a powerful God.

In non-fiction: With our many college students and high school seniors off to college in the fall, we have a book that would be a great read for you. It is called, “Can You Keep Your Faith in College?” It is put together by Abbie Smith and features short, two page notes on aspects of college life, such as dorm life, dating, pressure and life outside of the classroom. These short little excerpts are written by college students from all across the country and could all be read, or you could pick the ones that are interesting or apply to you. It will help you realize others are able to live Christian lives on college campuses and that you can too. Next, “Living the Lord’s Prayer,” by David Timms is a book that not only explains how to pray, but shows us how to live the Lord’s Prayer. A great book that is encouraging to your heart is by Edward Fudge called “The Great Rescue.” In some ways, it reads like a novel from Genesis to Revelation, but its content is deep in the grace that God has shown to advance this

great rescue from the fall of man through the coming of Jesus and to the end of the age. A great read is, “Fierce Woman” by Kimberly Wagner. It has a fascinating title, but its content is something to read and reflect on. The character is a woman who God convicted of having a mean spirit and has led her to become a woman of kindness and encouragement.

For the little ones, a new book called “Piper,” by Emma Clark will have your little ones asking you to read it again and again. Piper is an adorable black dog that finds just the right place to fit in. We also have a new Veggie Tales DVD called “Tomato Sawyer & Huckleberry Larry’s Big River Rescue.” The theme of this DVD is helping others.

Take some time to have some “down time” this summer and read a book yourself and to your children or grandchildren.

Peace Church Staff,

I want to thank each and every one of you for making my experience at Peace so enjoyable. I also want to thank you for the delicious lunch, the lovely card and the generous gift card. You all welcomed me into your family with open arms and I want you to know how I appreciate you all. I will miss working with you all and you will be in my prayers. Blessings!

–Kelsey Palmquist

Dear Peace Church,

Thank you so much for your faithfulness in sending us support every month. We appreciate it so much! We were also really surprised and encouraged by the extra gift you sent in December. It came in perfect timing as we were setting up our classroom to teach the Tarahumara language to in-coming students and had a lot of expenses. Your gift really helped. Thank you! Billy’s parents are moving to Michigan so we hope we’ll have the chance to visit more frequently I definitely think it is time for us to pop in and say hello. Sending love and hugs from Mexico!

–Billy & Erika Tjernlund

Dear Peace Family,

We are so grateful for all of your prayers, cards, meals and support through Josh’s surgery. We knew God was calling us to this journey, but had no idea how much the body of believers was standing behind us! We are so blessed to call Peace Church home! All of your support made this difficult time seem so much easier. God is such a good and faithful God! Josh is now beyond the most vulnerable time for infection. Praise the Lord! We are learning how our new normal works. We still travel to Ann Arbor every other month. Doctors would rather catch infection and or rejec-tion before it starts. Words can not begin to express how grateful we are for all of your support!

–Josh, Cassie, Adam & Isaiah Peereboom

Dear Peace Church,

The family of Bernard Wieringa would like to thank everyone for the calls, cards, food and memorial gifts we received at the time of Bernard’s death.

Our Sunday school year was wonderful. We finished April 26. As a Sunday school, we were praying for, learning about & giving to the Overbeeks. They are missionaries we support at Peace who are involved in various ministries in Alaska. We challenged the kids and their families to rise to the opportunity to give generously to their student ministry in Alaska. They met this challenge by raising $500.34! Thank you! The Overbeeks will be here this summer and visiting Peace on June 28. Please take the time to meet them, let them know you are praying for them and encourage them in their ministry.

JIM & MANDY BOWERMAN

We are so glad to have found a church family here at Peace! Our family includes Jim, Mandy, our little guy Jameson & our newest addition, baby Lillie. As a family, we love to play, explore, be outside & enjoy life together.

Jim has a huge passion for anything involving music or design and I, Mandy, love to host and spend time with friends. I also love gardening & photography. Jim is Peace’s new Communications Director and I spend most of my time being a homemaker and stay at home mom, but I’m also a wedding photographer.

We got together over 19 years ago & have served in various churches, in some capacity, nearly our whole lives (mostly worship, children’s, youth and young adult ministries). We grew up worshiping at a church in Hastings, MI and then, while Jim was attending college, we served at an inner-city church in Grand Rapids.

We started attending Peace Church after a patch of hurt, burn out and church “shopping.” We feel we have finally found a place that is welcoming, authentic and passionate. It probably also has part to do with Pastor Ryan Kimmel and Jim being dear friends since high school. We are extremely passionate about our Creator & Savior, feel called to serve and love others in all we do and are grateful for this community of believers!

BETTY NOFFKE

Hi! I am Betty Noffke and I was brought to Peace by my Daughter, Deb Donker. I also have another daughter, Nancy Janose and two sons, Ray Orns and Larry Orns. I previously attended Nashville Baptist Church and grew up in a Congregational church where I went with my parents. I previously worked in Real Estate, in Banking and as a bus driver. My personal interests include camping, watching the sun rise and set, yard work, feeding and watching birds and perusing yard sales! My ministry interests include studying the Bible, watching sermons on television, helping with hospitality in the kitchen and for over 20 years, I fostered children with special needs, which I loved, loved, loved doing. I am excited to be a part of the Peace Family!

NICK & NICOLE MENA

We are Nick and Nicole Mena! We are excited to be joining the Peace Family by becoming members. Nick is the manager at PCA Coro Pharmacy and Nicole is the Owner of Studio 15, a salon. We have one son, Declan who is a year old. Thank you for welcoming us to Peace!

TED & ERIN DEJONG

We have been attending Peace for about 2 years and are really excited to officially join the Peace Family! We have 3 kids: Jake (12), Lindsey (10) and Ty (8) who all attend Thornapple Kellogg schools. Ted is a self-employed builder and is involved in Bold Boys and the Safety Team. Erin works part-time at Steelcase. She is on the Women’s Ministry team, helps with Caraway Street and teaches Sunday School. We have felt very welcome since attending Peace!

WALLY & CARRIE COLTER

We have lived in the Middleville area for over 20 years. Have two grown children and six grandchildren. Wally is disabled and I work for Harper Collins Christian Publishing (Thomas Nelson & Zondervan) in customer service. We both sing, and I play the flute.

BRANDYN & EMILY DECKINGA

JOHN & JUDY CHRISTIAN

We are John and Judy Christian. We have three children. Our oldest, Travis, is married to Abby. Travis works with John in our family business, Green Valley Agricultural. Abby is a second grade teacher at Kettle Lake. Our son Troy is a student at Michigan State University. Our daughter, Liz, just graduated from South Christian High School and will be attending Calvin College this fall. We have been living in the Caledonia area for 25 years. Our former church home was in Byron Center where we were very involved in the life of our church and served on various committees and programs. John served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Elder.

I (Judy) volunteer with the Hope Unexpected program which supports and mentors young women who have chosen to be mothers rather than to end their pregnancy. I also frequently volunteered at South Christian and Dutton Christian. John has been involved in agri-business for his entire working career and works with farmers in West Michigan, supplying them with products and services to help them in growing produce and crops. As a family, we continue to enjoy volunteering at DeGage’ Ministries. Over the past several years, we have also been involved in a mission in Southwest Haiti. We also enjoy traveling and vacationing as a family.

We began attending Peach Church a couple of years ago when Pastor Adam was teaching on the book of Revelations. We have really appreciated the leadership here.

JAKE & COURTNEY OOSTERHOUSE

Hi everyone, we are Jake & Courtney Oosterhouse. So a little about me, (Courtney) would be that I grew up on the East side of the state, in Riverview, MI with my younger sister and my wonderful, godly parents. I grew up attending church at the Christian & Missionary Alliance where my dad is a pastor. Jake grew up attending Dutton URC where he was very involved and then went to college where he got away from church for a bit until he saw that God was working in his life and made the decision to put his faith in Him and live for Him. I am a 1st grade teacher at Cross Creek Charter Academy where I feel God led me two years ago, when Jake and I got married, and I absolutely love it. Jake went to college for Applied Science in Diesel Technology and has worked for AIS Construction Equipment for 6 years as a sales representative. I enjoy running, scrapbooking, and teaching and Jake loves hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and house projects.

Over the years, our relationship with Christ has grown and we have (and are still) learning how to trust and obey him. We tried MANY churches for roughly a year. We wanted to find somewhere where we both would be able to worship Jesus with a joyful spirit and be involved…also, somewhere where we could begin together. We finally tried Peace and loved it! Pastor Adam speaks truth from the Bible and addresses issues with love, yet does not ignore the truth. We are interested in helping out with the children’s ministry/GEMS & Cadets, possibly Youth Group someday and definitely mission trips! Thanks for welcoming us!
