LEADER: “Hi, friends! It’s so nice to see you all today! I have a super fun song for us to sing together about how we can thank God for everything!”

Lead children in singing “We Say Thank You.”

LEADER: “Great job, friends! One of the things I’m most thankful for is that [Basic Truth] God made me and He made each of you, too! Thank you, God, for making me, and [Bottom Line] thank you, God, for everything! Let’s get ready for our Bible story so we can learn about something else we can thank God for.”

What You Need: A Bible, water bottle, rubber duck, swim ring or floaties, and a bag that all the items can fit in.

LEADER: (Lay Bible down in front of you. Have the bag full of other items next to you.) “Hi, guys! It is SO great to see you again. We’ve got something SO (hold hands up in excitement) exciting to talk to you about this month. Did you know that God made everything? He did! The Bible tells us that God made everything.

“Today, we’re going to talk about one VERY IMPORTANT thing God made. (Pull out water bottle.) It’s … (pause) … what is this? (Pause.) Yes, it’s water. God made water! What do I do with water when it’s in this bottle? (Pause.) Right again! I drink it. I’m so glad God made water to drink. But that’s not all we can do with water.

(Pull out rubber duckie or other bath toy.) When do we play with this? In the … (pause)? Yes! The bath! We use water to get all fresh and clean. Let’s pretend to splash in the water. (Demonstrate.) Splash, splash, splash! Splash, splash, splash! Woo-hoo! That is fun. Okay, great job. Hands in your lap now. I’m so glad God made water so I can have a bath.

“I think I’ve got one more thing. (Pull out floaties.) What do we do with these? That’s right! We swim in the water. God gives us water to swim in, like the beach or a pool. Raise your hand if you like to go swimming. (Pause.) Me, too! I am SO glad that God made water so we can swim.

(Hold up each corresponding item as you list types of water.) “God gives us water to drink and to take baths and to swim in. Wow! God gave us water to do lots of things. I am SO thankful that God made water. God made EVERYTHING. That’s why we can say: [Bottom Line] Thank You, God, for everything!

“Who do you thank for everything? [Bottom Line] Thank You, God, for everything! Ready to say it with me?! Who do you thank for everything?” (Put hand to ear.)

CHILDREN and LEADER: “Thank You, God, for everything!”

LEADER: “Great job! One more time: Who do you thank for everything? (Put hand to ear.)

CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] “Thank You, God, for everything!”

LEADER: “It’s true, friends! God made everything! Let’s pray.

“Dear God, thank You for making water. There are so many cool things we can do with it. [Bottom Line] Thank You, God, for everything! Amen.”

“Memory In Motion” is an activity that helps the child learn the memory verse through repetition and fun movements.

What You Need: No supplies needed

What You Do: Before the activity: Have the children stand in front of you.

During the activity: Teach the following verse and motions to the children. “I will give thanks (thumbs to chest) to the Lord (both hands point up) with my whole heart” (both hands over heart), Psalm 111:1. (Open hands like a book.)

What You Say: Before the activity: “We are going to learn a NEW memory verse today! This is a very special verse from the Bible. Everyone stand up and look at me. Watch what I do and try to say and do our verse with me.”

During the activity: “‘I will give thanks (thumbs to chest) to the Lord (both hands point up) with my whole heart’ (both hands over heart), Psalm 111:1. (Open hands like a book.) Great job! Let’s try it again! ‘I will give thanks (thumbs to chest) to the Lord (both hands point up) with my whole heart’ (both hands over heart), Psalm 111:1. (Open hands like a book.) You almost have it! One more time!” (Repeat as many times as desired.)

At the end of the activity: “Our memory verse tells us that we should always give thanks to God with our whole hearts. God has made everything for us! Who do you thank for everything? (Pause.) Oh, yeah! [Bottom Line] Thank You, God, for everything!”

Wiggle, Jump and Touch Your ToesWhat You Do: Play a “thank you” version of Simon Says as long as there is interest.

What You Say: “Can you touch your toes? Touch your toes and say, ‘Thank You, God, that I can touch my toes.’ Now jump up and down. Thank you, God, that I can jump up and down. Let’s wiggle. Thank You, God, that I can wiggle.”

Sign ItWhat You Do: Walk around the room telling God “thank You” for things using the sign language sign for “thank you.”

What You Say: “Friends, I want to teach you something! Did you know you can say ‘thank you’ with your hand? Watch me. (Demonstrate.) Can you do that? Good job. Now, let’s thank God for some of the things in our room. Thank You (sign), God, for our table. Thank You (sign), God, for our sink. Thank You (sign), God, for our Small Group Leaders.”
