PROBLEM #1

Make a plan for finding the area of the floor to be tiled. Include the geometric formulas you will use to find the area. Then find the area of

the floor that will be tiled.

I will need to know how to find the area of a rectangle and a trapezoid. To find the area of the floor, I will find the total area, then subtract the cabinets from that.

(length times width)13ft. x 18ft.= 234ft sq. (trapezoid part of cabinets) (5+4) x 2= 18 ft. sq. 18/2= 9 ft. sq.

(small rectangle of cabinets) 5 x 2= 10 ft. sq.(big rectangle of cabinets) 10 x 2= 20 ft. sq.

(total cabinet area) 20 +10+9= 39 ft. sq.

(floor area) 234-39= 195 ft. sq.

PROBLEM #2

You estimate that it will take 4 minutes to install each square foot of tile. Find the number of hours it will take you to complete the job.

The number of hours to do the job is 13 hours. First you multiply the number of square feet of floor by four.

195 x 4 = 780

Then you divide that by sixty.

1180/60 = 13 hours

PROBLEM #3

Determine how much you will charge per hour for labor. Remember that your labor costs need to be competitive or you will not get any

work.

We would charge eighteen dollars per hour of labor. Eighteen dollars is a fair amount because it is in the middle of the lowest and highest

paid.

PROBLEM #4

What other costs do you need to consider? Write an expression to represent the cost of you expenses if the customer chooses a tile that

costs t dollars per square foot.

Other costs I need to consider are the tiles and supplies.(18 x 13) (labor) + (t x 195) ( tile costs) + 50 (supplies) = cost

PROBLEM #5

How much would you charge the owner of the kitchen shown above to install tile that costs $8 per square foot? Provide a detailed

explanation that you can share with the customer.

(18 x 13) + ( 8 x 195) + 50 =234 + 1560 + 50 = $1844.00

I would charge the owner $1844.00.I multiply the labor cost by the number of hours I’m working first.

Then I multiply the cost of the tile by the area of the floor. I then add 50 for supplies. So in the end I add $234.00 and $1560.00 and

$50.00.
