Good Luck to Year 12 student Caitlin Ralph (pictured above) who will be taking part in the “Alternative To Schoolies program” This program is all about volunteering, humanitarian assistance and cultural exchange. Ten year 12 students will travel to the Philippines with five supervising adults for three weeks after VCE exams are over. The program is organised by Mrs Geraldine Edar-Ralph; she is from the Philippines, and will take the students to places that tourists never get to see. Their time will be mostly spent at the Indungan Village on the island of Mindanao, where they will complete projects at the local school such as finishing the building of a library that was started last year, and stocking the library with shelves and books. They will teach the local children about Australia, and will take part in cultural activities with different classes. They will also meet and interact with the village community, and will learn what is like to live and survive in a part of the world suffering from poverty, lack of amenities, natural disasters and food shortages There will also be time to experience the culture and beauty of the Philippines; they will visit islands, isolated villages, beaches, cities and the jungle. They will see the endangered Philippine Eagle, and will visit the ancient Banaue rice terraces in the mountainous interior of the island of Luzon. The program is now in its third year, and has been well supported by generous donations from local service clubs, schools and community organisations. The SRC at Timboon P-12 has been very supportive of Caitlin’s involvement in the program, and she will be delivering lots of writing and drawing materials to the village school children because of their generous assistance. Well done Caitlin, we are very proud of you! An out of uniform day will held this Friday to help support Caitlin’s journey. And remember: “Pride is a personal commitment. It is an attitude which separates excellence from mediocrity.”” Anon

My very humble apologies to all our families as I completely forgot to organise our long weekend head lice target weekend. I am aware that we currently have a few cases out in the community so I think we will aim to do the check this coming weekend. Notes will go home tomorrow. Once again I do apologise as it is far easier to do over a long weekend. Our P-6 assembly was conducted today by the children in Prep L. They did an outstanding job and are to be congratulated for learning their part so enthusiastically. Next week we will be sending our Year 3s off for their first camping experience. While this is a very exciting time it can also be a little overwhelming as children prepare for two nights away from families. If your child is experiencing any anxiety please notify your child’s teacher so that we can work through this together. Finally, our 2013 planning is now well underway but we are still hearing of students who will be joining us and also moving on. If you have any information about transfers, either in or out of the school, for 2013 please give me a call. ANDREA TAYLOR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
