Suggested tasks for this week.

The focus this week is based on time connectives.

Time Connective. A time connective is a word or phrase which refers to the time in a sentence and tells the reader when an action is happening.

Please complete the handwriting in your handwriting book, the time connective tasks in your books and your comprehension on your sheets (if you can’t

print, then write the questions out in your book and answer the questions – this is good handwriting practice).

Monday – Handwriting – tail letters

Remember to hold your pencil correctly and to sit correctly in your seat. Look at the examples to help you work on your cursive handwriting. Think about the

size and always start on the line. These are tail letters so should go under the line. We are relooking at this.

Tuesday – Time Connectives Time Connective. A time connective is a word or phrase which refers to the time in a sentence and tells the reader when an action is happening. A time connective is a word or phrase which refers to the time in a sentence and tells the reader when an action is happening. They can be dedicated, like first, next and last or constructed phrases which actually refer to the specific time period, like ‘in December’ or ‘on 15th January.’ Examples of Time Connectives Time connectives can be as specific as you like, and as such the only limit is your imagination. Below is a list of some of the most frequently used time connectives:

Activity 1 – Have a look at these sentences with time connectives. Write them out neatly and underline the time connectives in red. After a long winter’s sleep the tiny hedgehog scurried out of her woodland home. Before dinner, Josie helped Mum to set the table. Eventually, the whistle blew to mark the end of the match! Activity 2 – Look through books, can you find 5 good examples of sentences that include time connectives? Write these sentences out and underline the time connectives in red.

Thursday – Free Write that must include time connectives.

Now it is your turn.

You have a free write. You can write a short story (No more than 2 pages), a diary, a report, a fact file, a paragraph about something or anything else that you

fancy but you must add time connectives. Can you add expanded noun phrases that you learnt last week to improve your writing?

Once you have written your free write, go back and check it makes sense, that your handwriting is cursive, it is neat, it has full stops and capital letters in the

correct place and that you have time connectives.

Don’t forget all of the skills you covered last term. Can you include them as well?

Friday – Comprehension

This week you have a 60 second comprehension. (Target is 90 words in 60 seconds in Year 2). This is to build up fluency. You have 60 seconds to read the text

and then onto answering the questions (The 60 seconds isn’t to answer the questions, just to read the text). Please go back to the text to support answering
