III. OPERATION

PRINTER OPERATION

PAPER SETTINGThe printer unit has an automatic loading function that facilitates paper feed. When the platen is in the downposition and no paper is left in the paper feed path, the automatic loading function feeds the inserted paperautomatically. The automatic loading function does not work if the platen is in an up position.

ONLINE/OFFLINE SWITCHINGTo switch to online or offline state press the SELECT button.

FEEDTo feed paper, press the FEED button in offline state. When the platen is in the up position, paper is not fed.

TEST PRINTINGThe printer unit has a test printing function to print the function settings and characters. You can easily confirmwhat the settings of the function selection terminal are by using this function. To perform test printing, turn on thepower while pressing the FEED button. After completing a test printing, the printer unit enters online state.

NOTE: When both FEED and SELECT buttons are depressed, DONOT turn off the printer unit. Doing so may damage the firmware.

IV. INSERTING PAPER

THERMAL PAPER SPECIFICATIONSMODEL • TF50KS-E2C (Nippon Paper)

• AFP235 (Mitsubishi Paper), PD160R-N, TO-381N (Oji Paper)• TC98KS-T1, TC11KS-T1 (Nippon Paper)

PAPER WIDTH • 58 to 82.55 mm

When paper other than the above is used, harmful effects may occur during printing.

PAPER ROLL SPECIFICATIONSOuter Diameter 228.6 mm (9 in) max.Internal Diameter of Core 32 + 0.3 mmThickness of Core 3 mm or more

(The paper core must not be deformed.)Core Material Kraft paper

Note: In case of a paper roll with a large diameter, the paper coremay be deformed due to shocks sustained during transportation. Athickness of 5 mm is recommended.

During paper roll holder setting, after the paper is set in the paper roll holder, the paper is inserted to the printerunit using automatic insertion (autoloading).

INSERTING THE PAPER IN THE PAPER ROLL HOLDER (WHENPAPER ROLL HOLDER IS SET)The horizontal type is described as an example. The vertical type is set using the same procedure.

Set the paper roll winding direction as shown in Figure 4-1 (with the printing side facing down), align the coreof the roll with the extremity of the movable shaft and then push the paper roll in the direction of the arrow.

Push the paper roll until the edge of the movable shaft completely comes out. A this time, push only the paperroll, being careful that the paper roll does not slip on the core and become misaligned. Make sure that the

paper and paper roll core go all the way to the back of the movable shaft.

When the paper roll is correctly set, there is a gap between the paper roll and the movable shaft’s edge and thepaper roll can smoothly turn.

Referring to the paper insertion indication label, pass the paper roll over the tension roller so that the printingside and the tension roller come into contact as shown in Figure 4-1.

Next, insert the paper roll in the slit of side guide R and automatically feed (autoloading) the paper.

Figure 4-1 Paper Roll Holder Setting Method(Horizontal Type)

AUTOMATIC INSERTION OF PAPER (AUTOLOADING)When the paper is inserted while there is no paper in the paper feed path and the platen is closed, it isautomatically taken up by the printer. Autoloading is not performed in the following cases:

1. When the platen is open

2. When the upper guide on the presenter is open (when a presenter is attached; except, however, infunction setting mode)

3. When paper is left in the presenter (When a presenter is attached; except, however, in functionsetting move)

4. When the paper-out error have been disabled by command

The paper feed length during autoloading is 400 dot lines (approx. 50 mm).
