important questions the Southwest Region wanted to

address. Members were asked to draw and write their answers on the butcher paper at each table.

Dentist Specific Studies

Hygienist Research Questions

Two different sessions were conducted during the last breakout session of the day. Dentists were able to see which studies they would be able to participate in over the next few years and asked questions to a panel of dentists/office staff who were involved in previous dental PBRN studies. Hygienists created three research questions from ideas generated from

Breakout Session II.

1. Decision aids for management of suspicious occlusal caries•4-8month,in-officestudyusingoneoftwodifferentdevicestodetectsuspiciousocclusalcaries.

•Assessthecontributionofthesedevicesindentists’decision-makingprocessessurroundingSOCLs

• Full enrollees can participate• Status: Recruitment open, expected start date late 2014

2. Management of dentin hypersensitivity•4-6month,in-officecomparativeeffectivenessstudyoftreatmentsalreadybeingused

•Patientsreportat1,4,and8weeksaftertreatment• Full enrollees can participate• Status: Recruitment open, expected start date late 2014

To see all the research studies occurring over the next few years, please see Dr. Gilbert’s presentation on the post-meeting website: www.southwestmeeting.com

The three research questions generated by the hygienists will be handled by Rahma Mungia, Deputy Director of the Southwest Region. She will be contacting the hygienists involved to see if they would like to help

further develop each question into a Study Concept.
