What is the European Union?
The European Union formed
after the second world war
initially with six countries and
grew to a union of
28 Countries.
It started as an economic union
….then extended to cover many
different parts of our lives…
The referendum
On 23 June 2016, the UK voted to leave the
European Union
On 29 March 2017, the prime minister
triggered article 50, which gave the UK
2 years to prepare to leave the EU.

What if not enough evidence?
You will be required to upload photos or scan you documents as an attachment to your application if
there is not sufficient evidence with the DWP or HMRC

Viewing and proving your status
You’ll be able to get proof of your status through an online service.
You will not get a physical document unless both of the following apply:•you’re from outside the EU•you do not already have a biometric residence card
If you’re an EU citizen, you’ll still be able to use your passport or identity card to enter the UK once you get settled or pre-settled status.
Your rights with settled status
If you have settled status, you can:
•stay in the UK for as long as you like•apply for British citizenship, if you’re eligible•work in the UK•use the NHS•enrol in education or continue studying•access public funds such as benefits and pensions, if you’re eligible for them•travel in and out of the UK

Your rights with pre-settled status
You will be able to:
•work in the UK•use the NHS•enrol in education or continue studying•access public funds such as benefits and pensions, if you’re eligible for them•travel in and out of the UK
You can spend up to 2 years in a row outside the UK without losing your pre-settled status, but you will need to maintain your continuous residence if you want to qualify for settled status.

• Free - if you already have Permanent Residency (PR)
• Free - looked after children
