Here it is! Volume 1 of the Time Traveler: Castle on Forever. I’ve been meaning to do this for eons. Basically I’m going to scan in the old story books I made as a kid. Partly just to pre-server them in case something happens for my own amusement, and partly because just to share and (hopefully) amuse others. I’ll type what’s above down here in case you can’t read my wonderful penmanship (but I won’t correct spelling - what would be the fun in that?)... and maybe add some “commentary.”

The spine says “Huff Hyde Marks” and those are the last names of my self and my friends at the time.

note: the time traveler will have a back shade over his eyes because hes parcitally blind for a little while.

That “black shade” was on there because I kept messing up his eyes and decided to just put a visor over his eyes. I don’t know that I ever explained why he was blind...

I did make a second Time “Traveler” book. Sadly, book 3 didn’t happen. Propellstar adventures was a direct rip off of Star Trek and ST:TNG and I have those around somewhere. I sadly lost the Star Trek book over the years. But I remember it being REALLY good. Honest.

If you’ve not figured it out yet, this is bascially a rip-off of Doctor Who... with a dash of Star Trek thrown in. Also, I was clearly a master of thinking up names.

Chapter 1They fire helplessly against the giant ship then they get achance to give one mighty blow in the engine. “Eric, we did it.” said Alex Erics assistent.“Yes alex but we have a long way to go look!”“Oh no its coming.” Alex screams

“It is time for your new assignmem Eric.”“Thanks heavens.” Alex thinks.“We made it” Eric thinks.“But we werent done were we” Alex thinks“apparenty”“Oh well were are we

They are having a conversation but they are thinking everything. So I guess they are telepathic? Also, the first line of dialogue is supposed to be from sort of central command. I think.

“I think were about to land.”“Me to!”“Shrink... were got to shrink!”“I’ll push the dematter shrinker!”“Well, were shrinking.”“Thats for sure.”

The button he’s pushing says “Shrinking De Matter.” The illustration does not convey shrinking well as the ship is the same size. Oh well.

“Were coming in” said Eric.“Into what?”“the atmosphere”“Oh, ok well lets look on the screen”“Good Idea Alex.”“turn on viewscreen.”

“OK.”“Look! Its a castle.”“yes, its very medevil.”“Lets go.”“better bring the resizer.”“OK.”

So rather than have a TARDIS that materialized, I decided my time ship would be HUGE and just shrink to blend in. The tiny purple space ship would go totally unnoticed by that guard, you see.

“Ok, turn it on.”“The guard reacts harshly.”

I’ve totally gone meta here! Do you see that? Was meta even a concept in... well, I probably made this in 1988 or 1989. If not, I totally invented it when suddenly some (unidentified) character breaks the fourth wall and says “The guard reacts harshly.” Eat that Kaufman! Anyway, I have to think there would have been better times to re-size themselves. Also, I’m not sure “Huh” is all that harsh. Please note wonderfully detailed render-ing of the king at the table with the luxurious tapestry in the background in the window.

Chapter 2“Your... you can change shape, you must bee evil Ill kill you”“walk, run away”

“Whatever you say.”They start running and its a close chase then the chase stops.

Hold onto your seats, folks! This is going to be one thrilling chase with... oh wait, it stopped. Also, wouldn’t it be nice if just once the sci-fi heroes landed and someone was friendly?

“Alex!”“I’m... I’m, fine its just a little arrow.”“Oh, no its poison tipped”

“I... I can’t...”“Alex!”

It’s just a little arrow... in the middle of my back! I’d have to think that’d hurt whether it was poision tipped or not. And just look at that smug guard, laughing at his handiwork!

“Were sorry the arrow was meant to frighten you.”“ya sure”“Well bring the boy back with your powers”“I have no powers, a device shrunk me and letme regrow”“Well, your freind can be healed by the power and

your eyes can too.”“how”“follow me.”So Eric follows in hope its not a trap.

“Well take you to the elder.”“OK”“here he is.”“you must out in front.”

“I will summon. the power.”As they prepare they stand in front the elder sum-mons the “power” he’res what happens.

The trip to the elder is very short. Which is good because he just makes them go out front again. Isn’t it cool what happens when the elder summons the power? Wait, you don’t understand what that picture is supposed to be? It just looks like I’m scribbling with markers? How dare you!

“Who, whats happening!”“Erything that happened before happened again but this time the arrow missed alex then the Alex, ERIC, their ship travel to previous mission his eyes were restored and he was sent back in front of the castle

“What happened.”“We were thrown back in time.”“How some how by the castle, Alex but look your alive and my eyes are ok.”

I totally did that thing I hate where everything is magically fixed by a time-travel reset button. I am ashamed of my 8 or 9 year old self.

“Look thats were it came from.”“A Time Warper!”“Yes, a time warper thats how we were healed it sent us backwards and changed the happening. this

means that these people are over a million years old. they died and were sent back in time and were re-vived to life again.”

Personally I think Eric makes a bit of a leap with his logic here. The door to the left says “Chamber of Light Your In.”

Chapter 3“But some things wrong we shouldn’t be healed time should repeat it’s self not be changed”“Good thinking Alex, lets take a look at the machine”they search all over then Eric sees arock in the ma-chine.

“Look this is what caused the machine to act improp-erly.”“How”“Well it smashed the un-decayer which is the micro-chip

I finally put an apostrophe somewhere and it’s used wrong. Sigh. Also, I can’t help but feel Eric and Alex are looking a gift horse in the mouth here...

that keeps time from decaying”“Well let’s fix it.”“OK, but were got to get a new micro chip.”“from where.”

“from the ship lets go.”“Oh no look some ones coming.”“Oh no not the ship”

Crunch.

This kind of makes it look like the guard practically hopped on the ship. So that’s it. They have no ship. No way to get out of this one. Nope, not at all.

“Oh no how are we going to get back”“I don’t know alex”“The Time Warper!”“Ya. We could use that!”“But how”

“Turn it on it would play back the ship would return and be in good condition.”“OK I’ll turn it on.”A Zee sound comes over the chamber

Oh. The Time Warper. Well it’s a good thing they weren’t able to “fix” it yet so it wasn’t so helpful! I hope the “Zee” sound is as scary and foreboding in your head as it was in mine when I wrote this.

Chapter 4

There’s a very good chance the laser gun was inspired by the one they used in the original Star Trek pilot “The Cage” as the summer before ST:TNG’s second season they ran a Star Trek special where they showed it for the first time in color. Also, even though my wonderful illustration skills make it perfectly clear, I should explaint that the brown and blue thing you see towards the front is the guard’s leg disappearing to be replaced by a version of himself where he narrowly misses the time ship.

“The ships back!’“Let’s get in”“here’s the microchip.”“Lets put it in.”

“here we go.”They remove the rock and put in the chip. they return to normal size

They are so determined to “fix” this machine that has saved their butts twice now. I don’t get it. It also makes it sound like they fixed the machine while miniaturized... but that contradicts the illustration. Oh 8 or 9-year old self, what were you thinking? Also, not sure why it was REALLY important to show that the machine was plugged in with this particular shot.

They put in a new microchip and get into the ship a voice comes over the intergalactic loud speaker “Your mission is over please continue.”

So of all the things I spelled incorrectly, I spelled “intergalactic” just fine. Sounds about right.

2 PAGE STORY Poster

This is definitely more of a poster than a story, don’t you think? “2 Page Filler” more like. I don’t know why our hero is trying to feel up weird troll-doll-haired alien there, but the alien doesn’t seem to like it one bit. Don’t worry, this image has nothing to do with the story here or in the next book.

he returns Alex to earth and goes on his next mission in time: Tilan’s Web.

This is sort of sad. Alex get’s a worse exit than Dodo did (note: this is a reference Doctor Who fans will under-stand, everyone else can keep moving along.)

aka “More Filler.” Although I have to say, I don’t hate the design of this. The springy chairs are kind of cool.
