Our school will host an ANZAC Ceremony at school as is ourtradition on Monday April 24.

Unfortunately due to the wet weather and badly affectedfootball fields, Friday afternoon Interschool Sport wascancelled last week. The selections for Maryborough Districtsport teams had been completed on Gala Day the week before.Congratulations to all of the students who were selected inDistrict Teams, too many to mention. We wish you everysuccess at Wide Bay Trials this week and after the vacation.

Last Tuesday was Harmony Day and we were privileged tohave a special visitor in the school. Tony Summerville is anon-verbal author who uses adaptive technologies tocommunicate. It was inspiring for students to hear from aperson who has overcome severe disability to live a successfuland rewarding life. Thanks to Chappy Amanda for organisingthis experience for our students.

As we conducted our whole school assembly last Friday, therewill be no assembly this week. Cross Country has beenpostponed due to the weather and will now be run on FridayApril 21st (first week back next term).

The Easter Vacation begins this Friday afternoon for twoweeks. The Easter long weekend ends the vacation period withstudents returning to school on Tuesday 18 April for term 2.

Q-ParentsQ-Parents is an exciting online parent portal, which will allowyou to access information about your child’s schooling likenever before. In Term 2, we will be inviting all families to signup for Q-Parents. This will give you instant access to yourchild’s profile, allowing you to see and inform us of changes tocontact information, attendance data and absences, invoicesdue and paid, and early access to report cards! We think thisis going to be an amazing tool, and new enhancements arebeing continuously added as the initiative grows. We hope allour families get on board. If we do not have your correct emailaddress on file, you won’t receive an invitation, so please takea few minutes to check which email address we have on fileat the office. Please take some time to watch the video to getsome more information!

Chappy NewsWe have already made it through Term 1. Congratulations onsuch an amazing effort – our school community has certainlykicked some big goals this term.

Harmony Day.

Our year 4-6 students were so well behaved and attentive forguest speaker, Mr Tony Summerville last week. They had somefantastic questions and waited patiently for his answer. Hismessage was strongly received – all of us are valuable. None ofus were born with a barcode -we are all of equal value.

Chappy Blockbuster—LEGO BATMAN MOVIEFUNDRAISER

To maintain the chaplaincy program at our school, we needto raise finances. One way to do this is through our Movienights. The first one is the Lego Batman movie which will air thisweekend.

March 31st and April 1st (no it’s not an April Fool’s joke)is a fundraiser for our school chaplaincy program. The LEGOBatman movie will be open to several schools screening at6:30pm with tickets costing $10. A percentage of ticket salesgoes directly to our school chaplaincy program and seats arelimited with more schools participating….so I amencouraging Tinana families to please pre purchase yourtickets from the cinemas to make sure as many seats onthese nights as possible will be raising money for our school.

I will be at the event with a popcorn bucket with our school logoon it – please encourage your family and friends to put theirtickets in our bucket. Each ticket in the bucket equates to $4for our school.

MONEY COMING TO SCHOOL

Would parents please ensure that any money sent to school forany purposes other than tuckshop is sent directly to the officeand is placed in an envelope with student’s name, grade andparticular item or excursion they are paying for, clearly markedon the front of envelope. Pre-printed envelopes are availableat the office for any payments. Parents that prefer to depositthe funds directly into the school bank account are requestedto advise the office of the deposit and to use the studentsurname and invoice number as the payment reference. Aslarge amounts of money pass through the school office itbecomes difficult and time consuming to identify paymentswithout this information.

Student Attendance – Same Day AbsenceNotification

The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest prioritiesfor the Department of Education and Training and for theQueensland Government.

At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parentor carer via text message when a student's absence isunexplained after the first roll marking of the day.

As home and school work together, student safety will beincreased. Here are some guidelines to make this process moreefficient:

Free Hearing and Vision Tests

• Notify the school by phone or email before 9:00am ifyour student is going to be absent that day. Pleasegive a brief explanation for the absence.

• If you receive a text message regarding anunexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text or phone call.

• Please ensure that your mobile phone number andother contact details are up-to-date on the schoolrecords. This is critical, as we need to be able tocontact you in case of emergency.

• If your student arrives late to school, they must go tothe office for a late pass before going to theirclassroom. If they are leaving early, a leave passmust be obtained from the office.

OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TOEXPERIENCE ANOTHER CULTURE, MAKE NEWFRIENDS AND IMPROVE THEIR LANGUAGESTUDIES AT HOME

In July 2017, we will be receiving exchange students fromDenmark, Canada, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy andNorway. Our new arrivals will live with a host family and attenda local school for 3, 5 or 10 months. As we plan for theirarrival, we are keen to hear from suitable families who might beinterested to host a student.

Hosting an exchange student can be a truly rewardingexperience. It allows a family to experience a foreign culture firsthand, be exposed to a new language and pass on a bit of ourown culture. They might even make a friend for life!

All students have at least basic levels of English, would attend aschool in your local area and live the life of a local.
