What is TinkRworks?

What are exceptional experiences?We believe three critical elements define exceptional experiences:

Our promise to TinkRers and their parents is that every experience with TinkRworks will be truly exceptional in every way.  Exceptional experiences—it’s what TinkRworks is all about.

TinkRworks is a new and innovative provider of exceptional STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) experiences for children who we refer to as “TinkRers.”

We carefully craft each experience to build on, and go beyond, what’s taught in school.  This reinforcement helps TinkRers bring to life what they learn in the classroom in deeper and more meaningful ways. 

Our approach immerses TinkRers in project‐based settings where they are faced with challenging problems to solve.  Using combinations of 21st

century skills (e.g., coding, 3D‐ printing, electronics) and traditional skills (e.g., woodworking, painting), TinkRers embrace these problems and tackle them head‐on, achieving beautiful results along the way.

Alignment to DisciplinesWe align our experiences around real‐world maker disciplines to ensure skillsets developed by TinkRers are relevant as their education progresses, both in their schooling and beyond. TinkRers will learn how to code, 3D‐print, solder and saw, not just because doing so is fun, but because these skills are useful—and needed—to solve problems they will encounter.

Creating applications for various devices (e.g., computers, tablets, phones) by using programming languages and techniques

Communications& Digital Media

Creating, editing and presenting text, digital images, sounds, and video to improve communications. 

TraditionalMaking

Creating physical structures and objects by sawing, drilling, gluing, and hammering.

Electronics Building  electrical circuits by soldering, wiring, and stitching together components such as LEDs, sensors, motors, etc.

Art & Design Imagining and creating objects by drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. in order to achieve aesthetic objectives. 

Digital Making Using computer‐controlled toolsets (e.g., 3D‐printers, CNC milling machines) and software to design & create physical objects.

Our content‐development and instruction base is comprised of PhDs, technology‐industry veterans, educators, designers, artists, and makers, all of whom have strong passion and interest in propelling each TinkRer to success.

Project‐based learning

Our project‐based approach orients TinkRers to identify challenges that must be overcome in order to solve complex problems, all of which is terrific preparation for the real world, and a great motivation for life‐long learning.

Highly favorable Instructor‐to‐TinkRer ratios

Our instructor‐to‐TinkRer ratios are among the best in industry.  At our Engagement Center, we maintain a ratio of 1:6 or better; at schools and camps, we guarantee a ratio of 1:8 or better.

Engaging

You Build it, You Keep it!Our programs are specially designed to give students the creative flexibility and inspiration to make beautiful creations that are uniquely their own.  Students will spend weeks learning how to build, decorate, wire electronics, program lights, program sounds and even 3D print components to help customize their work.  And at the end of each project, with very limited exceptions, students will keep whatever they build or create to continue the fun and learning at home!

Something for EveryoneOur TinkRers range from 1st graders through high‐school students, with projects crafted specifically to “age bands” as follows:

• 1st graders• 2nd & 3rd graders• 4th & 5th graders• 6th – 8th graders• High‐school TinkRers

Banding TinkRers in this way allows project topics to be relevant and well‐aligned to school teachings and also helps to foster social cohesiveness among TinkRers.

Accessible

Different Pathways of AccessibilityWe are a premiere source for after‐school STEAM enrichment programs in the Chicagoland area.  Our Engagement Center, based in Hinsdale, ILserves as our Headquarters, out of which we deliver experiences through three different pathways:

Engagement Center experiences:  Our most immersive set of experiences, taught directly at our Center; TinkRers have full access to all electronics, toolsets, and personnel resources to fully bring their ideas to life.

At‐school, after‐school experiences:  Convenient after‐school offerings where TinkRworks instructors bring all toolsets and materials to schools (e.g., computers, electronics, 3D printers) and work on pre‐determined projects with children on‐site.

Summer‐camp experiences:  A summer‐camp experience like no other!  TinkRers are immersed in STEAM‐powered projects for a full week with outputs being drones, rockets, lightsabers, electrified artwork, and much more.
