Tipperary Reads Festival
Prize winning crime novelist
Stuart Neville will be visiting our Libraries in Nenagh, Clonmel and
Thurles this November 15th and 16th
as part of our annual Tipperary Reads Festival.
The Festival is well underway at this stage; to date we have hosted two very successful events in Thurles Library. On
Saturday 14th Sept. Dr Michael Kennedy delivered a fascinating talk about the
real Ratlines & on Saturday 12th October crime author Arlene Hunt facilitated an amazing crime writing workshop. Check out the great review here.

John Boyne to visit Cashel Library
John Boyne is the author of 8 novels for
adults and 3 for young readers, as well as a number of short stories which have been pub-
lished in various anthologies and broadcast on
radio and television. His novels are published in 46 languages. The Boy in the Striped

worldwide.

Heritage Centre in Cloughjordan re-opened on June 15th. The new centre includes a
museum, a library and an exhibition space.

Eight Centuries of Local Government in Co. Tipperary By Matthew Potter. Local government was introduced to Ireland by the Normans in the twelfth
century and has been integral to our public life for 800 years. In this lecture, Dr Matthew Potter will examine its role in County Tipperary, including such
institutions as grand juries, municipal corporations, boards of guardians and county councils, as well as lesser known aspects such as the liberty of the
Butlers, Earls of Ormonde and the County of Cross Tipperary.
Dr Matthew Potter works in Limerick City Archives. He is the author of eight books and numerous journal articles and has a particular interest in the
history of local government in Ireland. 19th November @7.30pm The Source Library, Thurles.

Tipperary Libraries with the help of North Tipperary Arts
Office helped the Children’s Book Festival 2013 to hoist the flag for children’s books in October, bringing a
programme of Irish authors and illustrators, designed to spark the imagination of young readers from toddlers to
teens! An amazing selection of award winning authors and
illustrators visited nine of our libraries in Tipperary Libraries that included Marita Conlon McKenna, Michael
Smith, Oisin McGann and Alan Nolan.
Along with storytelling, quizzes and competitions, October was a very busy and exciting month!
