What is TIPS?

Students scoring at the top of their grade level on standardized testing and students in the gifted program.

Duke 6th Grade Talent Search Program Benefits:
Opportunity to take the ACT EXPLORE test
Online enrichment lessons in writing, math, science, social studies, etc.
Online book club
Navigator subscription, Duke’s online publication for gifted students
Invitation to apply for TIP’s CRISIS, a week-long summer research program (additional costs involved)
Invitation to apply for TIP’s Academic Adventures, day-long classes held around the US (additional costs involved)
Talent Search Program Enrollment Fee: $40
FREE if qualifying for Free/Reduced Lunch. Must submit paper application. Email Mrs. Flor if interested.

$40 program enrollment + $37 for Explore test = $77
An above grade-level assessment (designed for 8th
grade level)
Measures their skills in English, math, reading, and science, providing a clearer understanding of your academic abilities.
Includes a career interest component.
By taking the EXPLORE test, you automatically qualify for the Duke TIP program in 7th grade.

SAT Testing Details
Students will take the SAT on March 5, 2016 at designated middle school sites:
Stonewall Jackson MS (Azalea Park)
Lee MS (Orlando/Edgewater)
Piedmont Lakes MS (Apopka -subject to minimum # of students)
Students are offered tutoring for the test

Testing at the middle school sites is only being offered only on
Saturday March 5th 2016.
If you have a scheduling conflict:
Additional dates and locations may be available at local high schools. The parent is responsible for arranging testing with that high school.

Orange TIPS
Registration
Requires a paper application. These will be made available to students in January.
Registration must be mailed back to College Board with payment by February 5th, 2016
Cost: $54.50 (there are no fee discounts for Orange TIPS)
95th percentile on standardized testing, or Gifted program (select “Educator Recommendation” on application)
Choice of SAT or ACT with multiple test dates
Students test at the local high school with high school students
Enrollment fee = $70
Fee Grants available for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Enrollment fee = $30. Paper application required (earlier deadlines). See Mrs. Flor.
Highest scoring students may be invited to a regional recognition ceremony
