Tips & Tricks for Making
Your Moodle Video

Initial Preparation• Check to make sure you have a spalding.present.me
account • Have a plan or basic outline of what you want to cover in
your video• It is necessary to provide a transcript of all videos in order
to UDL compliant
• If you’re using PowerPoint, make the slides in advance and upload them into spalding.present.me• *Note: Do not record audio files in PowerPoint, as this can
cause issues. Instead audio can be recorded directly into spalding.present.me
• Make sure you have good internet connection
Environmental Factors
• Pay attention to your surroundings!!• What is the probability of getting
interrupted? • Is the environment too noisy?• What is your backdrop?
• Notice any clutter in the space• How is the lighting?
• Make sure to avoid backlighting
Personal Factors• Dress professionally • Make eye contact with the camera• Avoid reading directly from notes• BE YOURSELF!!!!
Ideas for Increasing Engagement
• Keep lectures to 30 minutes or less• Add in props or visual stimuli• PowerPoints with pictures add an extra
visual• Do not add too much text per slide
• Be enthusiastic (versus a monotone voice)• BE CREATIVE!
Adding Screenshots• If you would like to show a screenshot
of your computer screen:• Get your computer to the page you
would like to screenshot• Hit the print screen button (PrtScr) on a
PC or command-shift-3 on a mac• The screenshot will create a file, which
can be pasted into a PowerPoint slide
Making Your First Video
• You’ve signed up, logged in and are ready to make your first video!
• Click on the Create tab at the top of the page, and you’ll be taken to the upload page.
• Choose the type of video you would like to create.• Click Proceed and you can then choose your file
to upload. • Supported files: PowerPoint, PDF (you can export
from Keynote and Prezi to PDF), word document, or Google doc.
Making Your First Video
• When the file has uploaded, you’ll be taken to a new tab while your file converts so it works with Spalding.present.me.
• Once it’s converted, you’ll see a green Record button appear to the right.
• Click Record and the slides will be loaded into the recorder application (recording has not begun yet).
• The website will do some checks and ask for permission to use your webcam and microphone (click allow).
Doing a “Test Run”• Say a few words just to make sure your
microphone is working. • You’ll see the meter on the right hand side move
up and down as you talk.
• Look at the backdrop and your positioning in the camera to know exactly what can be seen
• Make sure PowerPoints are downloaded properly and that you know how to go to different slides• Use the right & left arrow keys to move your
slides forwards and back
Making Your First Video
• Click the red Record button and you’ll get a 5 second countdown recording starts.
• When you’ve either reached the last slide, or are ready to stop, click the Stop button and you will stop recording. • If you’re on the last slide, you can also click
‘Next’ and that will stop the recording too.
• Click ‘End & Review’ and you will be taken to the Publish page.
Review Your Work• After you stop recording, make sure to
review your video to ensure that you are happy with the outcome
• Re-check the following:• Did you say everything you meant to?• How does the backdrop look?• Is the sound loud enough?• Is the video engaging?

Embedding to Moodle
• Once the video is created, click on the Embed option
• Select the middle size on the next screen that appears. Then select Copy to Clipboard
• Go to the course where you wish to load the video
• Click on Add an Activity or Resource
Embedding to Moodle
• Use the radio button to select Label and click on Add.
• Click on HTML in the toolbar and add any text you like then click Ctrl V at the same time to copy the code from your clipboard.
• Click Update on the lower left-hand side of the pop-up window
• Click on Save and Return to Course
