Want a sign that’s sure to last? Cast it in concrete. One of the interesting uses for Extira Treated Exterior Panels

[www.extira.com] is making graphics for concrete casting. Our local concrete companies have us cut letters for them that they cast into concrete slabs for signage. We’ve done this for development entrances, school signs and architectural graphics.

The cut graphics are used as a pour-over cast concrete panel. That’s another example of how Extira will withstand considerable moisture without coming apart. It’s a very durable, low-cost material that cuts beautifully in the router.

By cutting the letters with a bevel on all sides, they release easily from the concrete. When the concrete comes out of the mold, the letters just fall right out.

These graphics are cut in reverse, backwards, with 45-degree angled sides. That bevel also makes it nearly impossible to place them in the mold backwards. Since mold work is done in reverse, if the letters are cut with straight sides it’s easy for the person doing the casting to make a mistake like that on letters like the A or W.

Concrete makes a great-looking sign that will really last. It’s hard for vandals to damage, and the effect can be very attractive.
