● HISD uses the adopted Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as the official curriculum in all its schools.(HISD usa los TEKS-Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills- como el currículooficial en sus escuelas)

● The TEKS are specific for each grade level and subject area.(Los TEKS son específicos para cada grado y materia)

● They are learning standards to meet the following challenges of the 21st Century. These goals are: (Son la base para lograr alcanzar las metas del Siglo 21. Estas metas son):

● Become a more effective reader (Convertirse en un lector más eficaz)

● Be able to know and apply more complex mathematics (Poder conocer y aplicar conceptos matemáticos complejos)

● Develop a stronger understanding of science concepts, especially biology, chemistry and physics (Desarrollar un mejor entendimiento de las ciencias, especialmente biología, química y física)

● Master social studies skills and content necessary to become a responsible citizen (Dominar los conceptos de ciencias sociales necesarios para convertirse en un ciudadano responsable)

Description and Explanation of Assessments/Explicación y Descripción de las Evaluaciones

The Every Student Succeeds (ESSA) Act requires all Title I schools to provide to parents a description and explanation of the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress. La Ley “Que Ningún Niño

se Quede Atrás” (No Child Left Behind, NCLB) requiere que todas las escuelas de Título I brinden a los padres una descripción y explicación de las evaluaciones académicas que se usan para medir el progreso estudiantil.

TELPAS is designed to measure the English language proficiency of K–12English Language Learners in four language domains: listening, speaking,reading and writing.

TELPAS fue diseñado para medir el dominio del idioma inglés deAprendices del Idioma Inglés de Jardín de Niños a 12.o grado en cuatroáreas del lenguaje: escuchar, hablar, leer y escribir.

IOWA is a norm-reference achievement test that measures students’academic achievement in reading, writing, language arts, mathematics,science, and social studies.

IOWA es una prueba normativa que mide el rendimiento académico de losestudiantes en Lectura, Escritura, Artes del Lenguaje, Matemáticas,Ciencias y Estudios Sociales.

LOGRAMOS is a norm-referenced achievement test for students whoseprimary language of instruction is Spanish. It measures students’ academicachievement in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, and socialstudents.

LOGRAMOS es una prueba normativa para los estudiantes cuyo idiomaprincipal de instrucción es el español. Se mide el rendimiento académico delos estudiantes en Lectura, Artes del Lenguaje, Matemáticas, Ciencias yEstudios Sociales.

CogAT measures reasoning and problem-solving skills in three differentareas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal.

CogAT es una prueba que evalúa las habilidades de razonamiento y lacapacidad para resolver problemas en tres áreas: verbal, cuantitativa y noverbal.

• Attendance is mandatory on testing days for all students.

• 8th Grade Reading/Math and 7th Grade Writing – December 4 & 5.

• 6th/7th Grade Reading and Math – December 12 & 13.

• 8th Grade Science and Social Studies – December 14 & 15.

• Note: There are no tutorials on testing days.

•The Phase I intervention window runs through January 19, 2018.•Students will receive new schedules for Phase II by Wednesday, January 17, 2018.•Check with your child’s teacher if you have questions about his/her schedule.
