• Meet the Memory Makers! • Take full advantage of meeting with our official photographer, videographer and florist. They will answer questions and take your orders. Keep in mind that due to national rules, there will be no photography or video cameras allowed in the theater during either show. We have included their order forms with this package for you to review. COMPLETE, print out and bring with you to registration. They have some special packages available to help you and your family remember this exciting weekend. • An exciting two days - The Schedule! • With an event of this caliber and magnitude, it is imperative that contestants be responsible for themselves by adhering to our time schedule. We’ve included a final schedule for your planning and preparation. We will also have one for you in your registration package. Please remember to give your parents their “Parent Schedule and Crowning Moment.” They play a very important role in pageant weekend and we want them to be prepared! • T Shirt Day! • RPM Productions continues its Saturday tradition with t-shirt day! This year, the Miss South Carolina USA T-shirts will be stylish off-the-shoulder short sleeve tees offered in an array of colors mirroring our theme, Treasures of Mumbai. We are asking that contestants wear leggings, fun sports bras and the shoes of their choice to give T-shirt day a fun athleisure twist. The t-shirts will be available for you to purchase for $25 at registration on Friday. Should you not want to purchase an official t-shirt, please bring a plain (no writing) brightly colored short-sleeved off-the-shoulder t-shirt of your own to wear. Cami’s or tanks worn underneath may keep you warmer during rehearsals. • Ticket Information • Tickets for both shows are available through The North Charleston Performing Arts Center Box Office. Tickets will also be available at the door both nights of the pageant.

Preliminaries will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, November 18. Finals will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night, November 19.

To ensure a fashionable event, we suggest the dress code for pageant spectators to be dressy casual attire or coat and tie for Friday night and cocktail attire or coat and tie for Saturday night. Denim is discouraged. • Other Details! • Luggage Check-In & Check-Out: While contestants are busy in rehearsals, our team members, Morgan Batts and Adam Faulk, will meet parents at a designated location in the hotel to allow them 30 minutes to move in luggage and set up their contestants’ room. Parents are NOT allowed to keep their daughters room keys. ALL keys are to be returned to Morgan and Adam promptly after moving in luggage. This is a long-standing tradition that allows parents to participate in the excitement of the weekend and insures the contestants are organized when they return from rehearsals. (See your schedule for exact times) A recommendation is to clearly mark your luggage and personal belongings with your first & last name to avoid any lost or homeless items. Just as we did for check-in on Friday, all parents will have a thirty-minute window to remove their contestant’s luggage on Saturday, at which point parents will return the key to the front desk. (Please see Parent’s Schedule for detailed instructions about this process. If

you do not have family to assist, please make arrangements with Jeri Lyn, Jessica or your chaperone in advance.) Be Prepared: Although we are accountable for the expense of your hotel accommodations and planned meals, we cannot be responsible for personal charges or damages to your room. Any extra food, telephone or room service charges will be your responsibility and will need to be paid for at the time you place your order. Wardrobe: Be sure to see our wardrobe check list to be fully prepared for all the weekend events. Please note: Contestants are responsible for moving their competition wardrobe and competition evening gown between the theater and hotel Friday night and again on Saturday at noon. Please pack smartly and don’t bring a bag that is too cumbersome. Do not bring valuables; we are not responsible for lost articles. • Social Media! • The Posters: Another long-standing tradition during the pageant weekend is to put up posters and signs of support for contestants of choice in the hotel. These items may be purchased at any copier or sign shop. Our only request is that the posters and banners remain in the hotel area, please do not place in the elevators, or the crosswalk to the convention center. Please ask your friends and family to be respectful of other contestants’ photos and banners. Thank you for your cooperation. The LIVE webcast: For the fifth year in a row, the show will be webcast live. If you have pageant fans, friends or family members who are unable to attend the event, have them visit www.pageantslive.com and click on the Web Cast Link. You will be directed to the streaming site. There is a small fee of $18.00, but it will be worth it to watch as the next Miss South Carolina USA and Teen USA are being crowned! Again, please go over the schedules and read through “The Crowning Moment” for in depth explanations of everything mentioned above. Should you think of any questions, call our office! Keep in mind the entire staff will depart for North Charleston on Thursday, November 17th and we will not be checking messages while we are away. The stage is set and it won’t be long until we come together to find out which young women will be crowned our next Miss South Carolina USA and Miss South Carolina Teen USA. It actually could be YOU! If you need anything at all, please contact us at (803) 648-6220; we are here to serve! And remember, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined.” Sincerely,

The Crowning Moment “Contestants & Parents”

Your paperwork is in, the program book is being printed,

and your hard work is paying off….so what’s next? It’s time to prepare for the spotlight. To help make that moment the best it can be, we suggest you take a few moments to review the following tips and suggestions. Preparing for Registration:

1. You will want to arrive at The North Charleston Performing Arts Theater lobby Friday morning at 10:00 AM casual but smartly dressed. It’s always important to look your best. Feel free to bring Mom, Dad, siblings or friends with you; we would love to meet them. We suggest you either Google directions or input the addresses of the hotel and theater into your GPS for ease of arriving on time. We recommend that you eat a late breakfast or an early lunch prior to coming to registration. We will not be serving snacks until 3:30 pm and you will want to have plenty of energy for rehearsals.

2. You will not need your suitcases or competition items during registration, however you will want to be prepared to take your competition wardrobe to the N. Charleston Performing Arts Center Dressing Room at 11:30 AM, and then be seated for Orientation which starts promptly at Noon.

3. If you do not have someone to move your overnight luggage into your room at the assigned

time as designated on the parent’s schedule, please check in with Jeri Lyn or Jessica during registration to make special arrangements.

4. Locate the registration tables for your division in the lobby of The North Charleston Performing

Arts Center. There will be a Teen and a Miss Registration table where you will sign in. PLEASE bring with you the COMPLETED/SIGNED and PRINTED Release Form for Media Recording and Webcast as well as your completed Photo and Video order forms.

5. Once you have checked in and received your registration package, you will need to visit the

production team members listed on the front of your envelope. (Be sure to put on your banner.) It is very important to make your first stop by the emcee’s table. Tim Tialdo will want to verify pronunciation of your name. Please take time to visit the representatives of Sage Media Group, JC Productions and Lee & Lan Flower Shop who are the official photographer, videographer and florist for this year’s event. We have included their order forms with this package for you to review, print out and bring with you to orientation. They have some special packages available to help remember this exciting weekend.

6. One of your last stops should be the Official T-shirt Table. Our themed t-shirts are available for

$25 (Cash only). You will be asked to wear the official t-shirt on Saturday with leggings for group photos. Should you not be interested in purchasing the official t-shirt, please bring a brightly colored short-sleeved t-shirt for Saturday’s events.

7. This year our Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA Specialty Gift Table (cash only) will be opening

early, prior to registration. Here you will be able to pick up those unique one of a kind items every pageant girl and pageant mom would love to have including your “Pageant Survival Kit”.

8. If parents, family and friends have not already purchased tickets, they will be available at the

theater door. Also, the Miss SC USA Official Program Book will be available for sale both at registration and before each night’s event. The program books are $20. (Cash Only)

Page 5: To: 2017 Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA Contestants · To: 2017 Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA Contestants From: Paula Miles Date: November 4, 2016 Re: Final comments prior to

9. When you have completed everything on your registration checklist, you will need to get your rehearsal bag, competition wardrobe, garment bag, and move into the theater where we will have people in place to direct you to your backstage dressing room area.

10. Once you have dropped off your things backstage, please make yourself comfortable in the

theater as close to the stage as possible. There will be a very informative session for both you and your family.

Preparing for Rehearsals:

1. We suggest you bring a small backpack or handbag to keep with you in the theater during rehearsals. You may want to include a bottle of water, any medication you require, your competition shoes, a jacket or sweater, cell phone (turned off), and any special snacks you may need.

2. Competition Wardrobe & Orientation We are asking all contestants to bring their competition

wardrobe suitcase (1) and garment bag (1) to orientation with them. You will be directed where to place your items in the theater. This SMALL travel suitcase (1) is what you will use to move back and forth between the hotel and theater. In this suitcase you will need to have your make-up, hair necessities, and undergarments. You will also want to be sure you have your competition shoes, swimsuit(s), jewelry for each outfit, opening number outfit, and evening gown. Remember, you are responsible for carrying your own items, so pack sensibly. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and limit your items to one SMALL travel suitcase and one garment bag. Don’t forget your Pageant Survival Kit- you can pre-order by calling the office, 803-648-6220.

3. Keep it manageable! We do have to move up and down stairs between the theater and hotel so keep your “Travel Suitcase” to a reasonable size so that you can handle it on stairs while carrying your dress bag.

4. PLEASE BE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH YOUR BANNER. We do not have extras. The banner is always

worn from the right shoulder to the left hip during each phase of on stage competition. You will not wear your banner during the private interview; you will introduce yourself to the judges.

5. After Orientation, parents will be asked to leave the theater so that contestants can meet with

their chaperones for a few moments prior to rehearsal. After orientation, parents will not be allowed back stage or in the theater. Rehearsals are closed to the public.

6. Rehearsals are fun but demanding. It is critical that you pay attention to what the choreographer is teaching you. He will not only be working with you on the opening number, but also giving you important information on how to get on and off stage and from which side of the stage you will enter. Remember: to turn your cell phones on silent so you are not disrupting rehearsals.

7. It is recommended that you practice in your competition heels, but not wear them the entire

day. Bring a comfortable pair of shoes to wear during downtime.

8. It is also important for you to eat. From time to time, contestants will feel bad during competition because they chose not to eat during the day. Healthy eating will give you the energy and glow you’ll want the judges to see. It is so important to keep your energy level up.

Checking into the Hotel: FOR THE PARENTS

1. Your daughter will room with two other contestants and we have created a very organized method for this transfer. Checking your daughter into her room and getting her luggage situated is a very important part of pageant weekend. Please check the parents schedule for the exact time to meet Morgan and Adam in the Ideation room at the hotel.

2. The process works well if one parent comes to the Ideation Room to pick up the room key and any delivered flowers, while the other parent waits by the elevator with the luggage. Once you have the room key, you will have 30 minutes to move the luggage and flowers into your daughter’s room and return the key to Morgan and Adam in the Ideation Room. Parents are NOT allowed to have a contestant’s room key in their possession other than during the move in/move out process.

3. On Saturday morning, we reverse the process and you will remove her luggage and keep it in

your possession. (See schedule for times) This time, you will return the key to the front desk instead of to Morgan and Adam. Thank you so much for helping make this process a success.

4. Other than the move-in/move-out process, parents, hair dressers, makeup artists, and friends

will not be allowed back into contestant’s rooms for any reason. If your daughter has forgotten an item, please bring it to the front door of the Theater at 3:00 pm on Friday and Saturday in a bag with your daughter’s name and title on the bag. There will be two chaperones to collect these items and will be sure your daughter receives them. These chaperones will be at the front of the theater for 10 minutes ONLY. Please be respectful of their time.

5. The pageant weekend has an efficient but tight schedule. Your daughter is in good hands with

our experienced Chaperones who are responsible for keeping her and her fellow contestants on time and in the right place at the right time. Please be respectful to them.

6. Parents are welcome to line up the in 2nd floor crosswalk during the times the girls are coming

from and going to the theater. However, we ask that you do not attempt to stop them. This event is permitted for encouragement and to show your love and support. The girls are on a tight schedule and every minute counts.

Preparing for Preliminary Competition: FOR THE CONTESTANTS

1. As stated earlier, the pageant weekend has an efficient but tight schedule. We will provide you with a chaperone that is responsible for keeping you and your fellow contestants on time and in the right place at the right time. Please be respectful to them, and listen to their suggestions and directions. They are experienced and have been working with our contestants for many years.

2. After rehearsals on Friday, you will have dinner at the theater with time to relax and prepare for

the preliminary show. You will have approximately two hours to have dinner and get all your things together before show time.

3. The dressing room areas in the N. Charleston PAC are complete with mirrors and lights. Please

carefully plan your hair and make-up necessities. Each contestant will have a station for preparations however the space is limited. There are outlets to plug in curlers and straighteners, however, we ask that you please be respectful to others around you and share outlets when needed. We will provide hair and make-up artists backstage to assist you with your needs. They are available for touch ups only.

Page 7: To: 2017 Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA Contestants · To: 2017 Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA Contestants From: Paula Miles Date: November 4, 2016 Re: Final comments prior to

4. After competition on Friday evening, you will need to quickly pack up your competition wardrobe and garment bag, change into something comfortable and move into the theater lobby for a brief Meet and Greet with your family and friends. You will have about 10 minutes to visit before it is time to say goodnight and meet your chaperone to collect your late night snack.

5. Earlier in the day, your parents will have moved your overnight luggage into your room. You will

receive your room key from your chaperone at the after party. Remember family, friends, parents, hairdressers, or makeup artists are not permitted to visit you in your room and you are not permitted to visit them in theirs. This would be a disqualifiable offense.

6. Bed check. At approximately 11:00 pm, your Chaperone will want a quick meeting with you to

be sure you are ready for Saturday’s events. Your Chaperone wants to be sure you have everything you need and are feeling your best.

Preparing for Saturday Morning Interviews:

1. Depending on your interview time, you will want to have breakfast either before or immediately following your interview. Contestants should eat as a group with their chaperone in the designated area. You are not permitted to eat with family or friends.

2. Be sure to look over your interview schedule to see exactly what time you are scheduled for

interview. Again, you will not wear your banner during interview; you will introduce yourself to the judges. You will need to arrive with your group at the interview area for photos and briefing prior to your interview. Your chaperone will need everyone’s co-operation to be sure the group is at the interview briefing room on time. PLEASE DON’T BE THE ONE TO KEEP THE GROUP WAITING!

3. Either before or after interview, you will need to pack your non-essential belongings and leave them on your bed for your parents to pick up. They will check you out of your room at the assigned time. The only items you will need to take with you to the theater are in the travel suitcase (1) you used the night before, along with your evening gown and opening number outfit. Your swimsuit with all your make-up and hair items should be already packed in your suitcase. Remember to keep up with your BANNER!

Preparing for Final Rehearsal and Competition:

1. Once you leave the hotel on Saturday, all other events will take place at the theater. You will spend the afternoon in rehearsals and will have dinner at the theater before preparing backstage for the final competition.

2. Keep in mind that the finals competition is a two-hour show. Should your name not be called in

the semi-finals, you are still part of the show. We have a wonderful presentation where all the contestants show their gowns. And who knows, you might just be called out to win one of our very special auxiliary awards.

3. When the pageant has concluded, and you are in the top 5, please remain on stage for photos.

All other contestants should move off stage and begin packing their items. Parents are instructed to meet you in the lobby of the theater where we held registration. Keep in mind parents will not be allowed backstage to help you pack.

4. Please be sure to have all your personal items marked with your name. Sometimes items are left

behind and we do our best to try to find their rightful owners. If left and have to be mailed, they will be sent C.O.D.

Page 8: To: 2017 Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA Contestants · To: 2017 Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA Contestants From: Paula Miles Date: November 4, 2016 Re: Final comments prior to

5. Should you become the next Miss South Carolina USA or Miss South Carolina Teen USA we ask that your family join us at the front of the stage to be called up onstage for photos with our official photographer. Afterwards, an RPM Team member will escort you to a private reception in the VIP suite of the hotel to make your first official appearance. Your parents and immediate family members are invited to attend.

After the Final Competition: FOR THE PARENTS

1. When the pageant has concluded, there is such an element of excitement in the air that many parents’ only thought is to get to their daughter. We ask for your patience in this process.

2. If your daughter makes the top 5, she will be required to remain on stage for photos. All other

young ladies will say their goodbyes and head to the dressing rooms to pack their belongings. Parents are asked to exit the auditorium and wait in the lobby. The girls will come to you. Parents are not permitted back stage.

3. If your daughter wins the pageant, we ask that the family join us at the front of the stage to be

called up onstage for photos with our official photographer. Afterwards, an RPM Team member will escort “Mom” backstage to pack up her items from her dressing station and move them to your room. After the photos are completed your daughter will make her first appearance at a private reception in the VIP suite of the hotel. Her parents and immediate family members are invited to attend.

Preparing for your year as a Miss USA/Miss Teen USA state titleholder: On Sunday morning, we will meet to sign official contracts. At least one parent is encouraged to attend. Allow a minimum of two hours for introductions and to go over your new “Titleholder Handbook.” Prizes will be awarded. Remember to bring your camera!

FACEBOOK FAN PAGE/TWITTER UPDATE

Pageant Weekend is Fast Approaching! We hope that you have enjoyed your time as a Miss South Carolina USA or Miss South Carolina Teen USA regional titleholder. It has been great fun for us to follow you on Facebook and watch you build your fan base! Because these titles, based on the Miss Universe guidelines, don’t go forward after the state competition on November 19, we have some important instructions! Wrapping things up: In the 10 days leading up to pageant weekend, post a status on your fan page that says something along these lines: “Thank you so much for all of the love and support you have shown me during my time as Miss TITLE USA 2017. It is my hope that I will be trading in this title for the Miss South Carolina USA (Teen) title. Wish me luck! See you at the pageant on November 18 & 19 in North Charleston! To find out the results and to see photos from the competition, go to facebook.com/rpmproductions. If I don’t bring home the title and you want to continue to follow me in my future endeavors, then you may add me on Twitter (username) or at my personal Facebook profile (link). For the fifth year in a row, the show will be webcast live via the Miss South Carolina USA website. For those who have supported me but are unable to attend the event, please visit www.pageantslive.com and click on the Web Cast Link. You will be directed to the streaming site. There is a small fee of $18.00, but it will be worth it to watch as the next Miss South Carolina USA and Teen USA are crowned!

You should repost this frequently to make sure all of your followers see it!

Make sure to include the links to your personal Facebook and Twitter accounts if you don’t want to loose any of your fans. If you don’t feel comfortable including this information, you don’t have

to. Only share what you want to share.

Are you planning on registering for the 2018 pageant and hoping to use the same title?

Sign up by December 31th and you may reactivate your Fan Page! This will make it much easier for you to transfer your fan base from your old fan page to your new one, and if you have less than 100 fans, you can simply change your current page name to reflect the correct pageant year. Your fan page MUST be deactivated/deleted by the 20th of November if you do not plan on registering for the 2017 pageant year using the same title.
