Beating Retreat Ceremony

It officially denotes the end of Republic Day festivities.
It is conducted on the evening of 29 January, the third day after the Republic Day.
It is performed by the bands of the three wings of the military, the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian
Air Force, and pipe bands from the Army, and from 2016 a massed formation of bands of the Central
Armed Police Forces and the Delhi Police
The chief guest of the function is the President of India.

Ganga ecological flow (e-flow) norms.
o Vishnuprayag Hydroelectric project – Alaknanda
o Srinagar Hydroelectric project – Alaknanda
o Maneri Bhali Phase 2 – Bhagirathi
o Pashulok – Ganga Mainstream
Centre’s ecological flow notification (under Environment Protection Act of 1986) mandates that
project developers ensure a minimum supply of water all through the year
CWC is the designated authority responsible for the supervision, monitoring, regulation of flows in
the rivers

Country’s First Fruit Train

This is the first time in India where ‘fruit train’ i.e. an entire train is being sent to the gateway port
(JNPT) for export.
From: Tadipatri Railway Station in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh
To: Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai, from where the consignment will be exported to Iran.
Cargo: 980 metric tonnes of locally (AP) grown bananas under the brand name “Happy Bananas”
The train helps save both time and fuel as 150 trucks would have been required to send a consignment
of this size by road to JNPT, which is over 900 km away

Rani Rampal becomes the first-ever hockey player to win World Games Athlete
of the Year award
Indian women captain Rani Rampal becomes the first-
ever hockey player to win the prestigious World
Games Athlete of the Year award. The World Games
announced the winner after 20 days of polling in
January this year by sports fans worldwide.
India won the FIH Series Finals, and Rani was named
Player of the Tournament.She has been a member of
the national team since she was a 15-years-old, and has more than 240 caps for India.

India and Bangladesh to conduct counter -
terror exercise in Umroi
Indo-Bangladesh defence cooperation, a joint
military training exercise organized at Umroi in
Meghalaya from February 3 to 16.
Exercise SAMPRITI – IX
Exercise SAMPRITI – IX is an essential bilateral defence cooperation endeavor
between India and Bangladesh and will be the ninth edition of the exercise, which is
hosted alternately by both countries.
The field training exercise curriculum progressively planned where the participants
would initially get familiar with each other’s organizational structure and tactical drills.
Google announced $1 million grant to promote news literacy among Indians

Google News Initiative (GNI) announced a $1 million
grant for Internews, a news literacy organization. The
funding support is part of Google's broader, $10-million
commitment to media literacy. The grant will work
towards building a strong network of senior reporters
and journalists who will counteract fake news in India.

Google’s initiative will focus on delivering news
literacy, especially in non-metro cities.
Under the program, Internews will put together a team of 250 journalists, fact-
checkers, academicians, and NGO workers, who will be trained by global and Indian
experts in a curriculum adapted to local needs and available in seven Indian
languages.
Economic survey 2020 in the parliament presented by the finance minister
The Economic Survey of the Fiscal Year
2020 tabled in both the Houses of Parliament. The
survey highlights in the country. The Theme and its

2020: Wealth Creation, Promotion of pro-
business policies, strengthening of trust in the
economy. The investments grew between 2008
and 2013.

The investment grew between the year 2008 and 2013. The credit is declining mainly
due to the global scenario of an economic slowdown.The scheme proposed to set up
one and a half Health and Wellness Centres (HWC) by 2022. So far 28,005 HWCs have
been set up as on 14th January 2020.
Bom and SBI bank have PSB rated good in digital transaction in December

Bank of Maharashtra and State Bank of India are
the only two state-run banks that showed 'good'
performance in terms of digital transactions in
December with a score of 77 and 68 respectively,
government data showed.
The calculated rating for an individual bank is
given by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on
various parameters such as percentage of digital transactions, merchant deployment
achieved, system resilience, and average percentage of technical decline for UPI or
AePS transactions.
The union government gave a target of 4,000 crore digital transactions for the
current fiscal. Banks performance on various parameters, including digital sales, is
tracked every month.
