4. Festival Day
Designing Your Own Festival1. Create a poster
Designing your own festival is so much fun! Once you have decided
on the date of your event, create a poster for it. You can either draw
your own, or colour ours in. Don’t forget to write the date of when
your festival is taking place.
2. Create a map
It is important people don’t get lost at your festival. Whether you
choose to have it in your garden or a room in your house, make sure
you draw a map. We have created a version which needs colouring in
or you can make your own. Remember to include the following:
3. Signage
Now you know what is on your map, it is time to create the signage.
When people are walking around your festival, signage will help guide
people to the place they wish to go.

Designing Your Own Festival4. Wristbands
It is important for everyone to have wristbands. You will need 2
dierent wristbands for your festival:
1. Day ticket - People attending the festival
2. AAA (Access all Areas) - People organising the festival
You can design your own, or colour in our template we have created.
5. Decoration
This is the fun bit. It is time to think about decorating your festival.
The theme is Underneath the Stars. Here are some ideas:
You can design your own, or use our templates, Don’t forget, you will
have the main stage to decorate too, which is called the PLANETS
STAGE.
There will also be an opportunity to play music and videos
throughout the day. Ask an adult so see if there is a way to play things
using a stereo, laptop, tablet or phone.

Entertainment & Activities1. Music
Underneath the Stars Festival has created a spotify playlist for you to
play on the PLANETS STAGE at your festival. It features music from
the last 7 years of artists performing at UTSf.
You could create your own playlist with your favourite music if you
wish, or even better, you could perform yourself live on the day.
Maybe sing a song, perform a dance routine or play an instrument on
the main stage.
2. Workshops
Oh, as much as we love the music, we also love the workshops at
Underneath the Stars. You may want to put on a few workshops
throughout the day for your audience. We would love you to create
some activities yourself.
Think about anything you have learnt at school that you could teach
others. A dance move, or history facts or maybe a playground game.
Underneath the Stars can also help you with this. We will be
uploading some workshops onto YouTube for you to use. Ask an adult
to keep an eye out for these announcements.
Entertainment & Activities3. Activities
We love getting involved with the activities. If you have anything you
would like to take place throughout the day, make sure you plan it in.
This could be:
4. Storytelling
Underneath the Stars will be supplying a selection of storytelling
videos from our fabulous storyteller, Mark Fraser, so don’t forget to
plan these in!
Alternatively, why not make up some stories of your own? You
could write them down and send us them. You never know, our
storyteller might read them out! Post to:
Underneath the Stars Festival, PO Box 174, Sheeld, S36 8XB
Circus skills - If you have any equipment, great! If not, make it
up. We would love to see people juggling fruit or balancing
books on their heads from one point to another.
Obstacle Course - Why not set up a course for people to do.
Time them all and see who did it the fastest.
Painting - That’s right, get those paints out and create some
aliens or planets of your own. Stick them up to dry around your
festival site.
Games - This could be outdoor or indoor games.
Planning your festival1. Timetable
It is time to plan the big day. You will need to let your audience know
exactly when things are on so they don’t miss anything. We have
provided a template for you to fill in yourself.
Simply enter the time in on the left column and then fill in the
performance or activity.
2. Food & Drink
Don’t forget that your festival goers will get hungry and thirsty
throughout the day. It is your responsibility to organise food and
drink.
Decide on what food you would like to serve and ask an adult to help
you create your menu for the day.
Have fun and create a themed drink for your festival. Maybe mix a few
juices and pop some fruit in. Then make up an intergalactic name for
it.
3. Camping
On the day, you or others may want to put up a tent in either your
garden or in the house. If you don’t have tent, you may be able to set
up something with blankets, creating a pretend tent. Check with an
adult if this is possible. If so, let them help you with the location for
this.

FESTIVAL DAY!1. Time to put up your decorations
IT IS FESTIVAL DAY! Make sure you are up nice and early to decorate
your festival with everything you have made. Remember to put up
your signage so everyone knows where they are going. If you need
seating in any areas, make sure this is available.
2. Last checks
Go round each area and make sure everything is prepared before you
let anyone into your festival.
3. Ready, Steady GO! Open the gates!
That’s it. Time to let people in to your festival. Don’t forget to take lots
of photos and videos. Ask an adult to upload them and tag us on
Facebook. We can’t wait to see what you have created.
